Is there an absolutely free people locator or what others refer to as as a finder? I can almost say “no” there isn’t one that I know of but I can never be too sure because the web has so many billion pages maybe there is one sitting somewhere at the back of the web – if you know what I mean.

My point is you can find a locator that you can use to find people without paying anything. The only shortfall to this is that the information presented to you would be very minimal and almost useless. If you go to a people search website you will land on the first page that offers a free service. Type in the details and hit the search button. In a few seconds you will see a list of possible answers.

Now you will notice that the results will have many links to click if you want more information about that particular person. When you click any of those links you will be let to a page with various prices charged for accessing certain amounts of information.

For example, I know one that claims to be an absolutely free people locator, which charges something like $97 to get access to a full profile about someone.

Now is this bad? In my book “no” it is not. After all these websites spend money to gather that kind of information. That said, you do not, however, have to pay anything if you do not want to.

Simply find a good people search finder that offers information that is comprehensive enough before you are asked to pay anything. Another alternative is to use multiple free services so that you can collect pieces of different information from each at no cost.

Why Is That "What Goes Around, Comes Around"?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The old saying, “what goes around, comes around,” is actually a slang interpretation of the spiritual principle of Cause and Effect, which itself is derived from the biblical admonition that “what you sow is what you reap.” It essentially means that every effect that you see or experience in the world had to have a cause. While at first glance this may appear to be a very simple and obvious concept, it has profound implications for every human being. What it means is that literally every single thought and feeling you experience is a cause that sets into motion an eventual effect. This insightful passage from Lynn Grabhorn’s book “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting” builds upon this point:

“Every time we think of anything, we’re flowing some kind of positive or negative energy (feeling) toward whatever it is we’re thinking about, and the litany never changes: as we think, we feel; as we feel, we vibrate; as we vibrate, we attract. Then we get to live the results.”

It is critical that you comprehend the importance of this principle, for once you do, you better position yourself to realize your full potential for both personal and spiritual growth. At its most fundamental level, this principle states that the Universe is in fact a very sensitive energy field, and that whenever we make a choice to think, feel, speak or act in a certain way, we are emitting energy into this field that must return to us in comparable form. Put another way, the principle of cause and effect serves as our own personal ‘boomerang’, meaning it’s very important that we make our best efforts to toss that boomerang out into the Universe with positive energy attached to it, for whatever we put out there will assuredly return to us in kind. According to Arnold Patent in his book, “You Can Have It All:”

“Energy flows out of our bodies like a signal or wavelength from a radio or television station. Each of us emits a very precise signal. Everyone and everything in our environment picks up certain of these signals. However, only those who are on the same wavelength respond to them — The result then is that we attract into our lives those people and those circumstances, which are in alignment with the energy signals we emit.”

Given the above premise, it is reasonable to conclude that everything that happens to us originated with a cause that we ourselves set into motion. The problem that most people have with this principle, however, is that they simply cannot understand how some effects can happen to them when they cannot consciously recall doing anything to cause them.

From all that I’ve read, it is my understanding that not all of our choices are made at the conscious-mind level, as over time all of us develop conditioned (i.e., subconscious) responses to a variety of stimuli. It can also be true that a cause set into motion in one area of life, may actually have its effect in an entirely different area, making it challenging for people to connect them.

One of the keys to spiritual growth therefore, is learning to discipline yourself to become more conscious about all of the decisions (i.e., choices) that you do make. In his book “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success,” Deepak Chopra has some excellent advice regarding this:

“When you make any choice–any choice at all–you can ask yourself two things: First of all, ‘”What are the consequences of this choice that I am making?” In your heart you will immediately know what these are. Secondly, “Will this choice that I’m making now bring happiness to me and to those around me?”

As you begin to put this advice into practice, you’ll be amazed at how many of your thoughts, feelings, and actions have been occurring on ‘auto-pilot’, so to speak. Over time we all become so conditioned, in both our thinking and in our behavior, that we really don’t take the time to look upon the everyday situations we encounter in a new light. This is because our subconscious mind effectively operates as a powerful supercomputer, one that instantly evaluates any stimuli we encounter against its vast ‘memory bank’, to determine if we have experienced something comparable to it in the past.

To make your choice making a more conscious experience, you must — in a sense — ‘short-circuit’ the subconscious mind, and undoubtedly this requires some effort on your part. While initially you may find it quite challenging to bring more of your choice making to the level of consciousness, with practice you will find it increasingly easy to do so. Your objective should be to become as conscious as possible regarding all of the choices that you do make. However, given the myriad choices that you make on a daily basis (e.g., thoughts, words, actions), it is only natural that you will continue to make a number of them on a subconscious level.

My recommendation is that you not drive yourself crazy with this, rather just make your best efforts to develop personal awareness of the various choices that you are making, by learning to step back and observe them (i.e., from the perspective of “the witness” that Eckhart Tolle refers to in “A New Earth” and “The Power of Now”) as you make them. Through this simple act of witnessing, you actually take the entire process from the unconscious realm into the conscious realm. Finally, throughout this process always remember to have patience with yourself, for as the old adage goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Walkie Talkies – The Old Ways To Communicate Can Still Be The Best

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Walkie Talkies are portable communication devices consisting of low-level radio transmitters and receivers. Walkie talkies are often pictured as that black bulgy transistor with a big antenna that one has to hold near his mouth before he speaks.

However, design and technology has really changed the look and feel of Walkie Talkies. In addition, they are just an amazing toy for kids, it lets them have a lot of fun while playing around and communicating at the same time.

Walkie Talkies – A Little History

The first walkie-talkies were developed for military use during World War II, and spread to public safety and eventually commercial and job site work after the war. Typical walkie-talkies resemble a telephone handset, possibly slightly larger but still a single unit, with an antenna sticking out of the top. Early Handie-Talkies had tubes and ran on 4, 45-volt dry cells or 12V Nickel-Cadmium batteries. Surplus Motorola Handie Talkies found their way into the hands of ham radio operators immediately following World War II. Walkie-talkies are widely used in any setting where portable radio communications are necessary, including business, public safety, outdoor recreation, and the like, and devices are available at numerous price points. Walkie-talkies, thanks to increasing use of miniaturized electronics, can be made very small, with some personal two-way UHF radio models being smaller than a pack of cigarettes (though VHF and HF units can be substantially larger due to the need for larger antennas and battery packs).

The lowest cost devices are very simple electronically (single-frequency, crystal-controlled, generally based on a simple discrete transistor circuit where “grownup” walkie-talkies use chips), may employ super regenerative receivers. They may lack even a volume control, but they may nevertheless be elaborately designed, often superficially resembling more “grown-up” radios such as FRS or public safety gear.

An unusual feature, common on children’s walkie-talkies but seldom available otherwise even on amateur models, is a “code key”, that is, a button allowing the operator to transmit Morse code or similar tones to another walkie-talkie operating on the same frequency.

Motorola

The first radio receiver/transmitter to be nick-named “Walkie-Talkie” was the backpacked Motorola SCR-300, created by an engineering team in 1940 at the Galvin Manufacturing Company (fore-runner of Motorola). Handie-Talkie became a trademark of Motorola, Inc. The abbreviation HT, derived from Motorola’s “Handie Talkie” trademark, is commonly used to refer to portable hand held ham radios, with “walkie-talkie” used to designate more specialized commercial and personal radios. Motorola also produced the hand-held AM SCR-536 radio during World War II, and it was called the “Handie-Talkie” (HT). Motorola’s public safety radios of the 1950s and 1960s, were loaned or donated to ham groups as part of the Civil Defence program. Motorola is forever introducing new models, so don’t get bogged down looking for any particular model, since the model numbers change frequently. Today, GMRS radios such as Motorola’s T5950 can reach several miles.

Product

While FRS walkie-talkies are also sometimes used as toys because mass-production makes them low cost, they have proper super heterodyne receivers and are a useful communication tool for both business and personal use. Motorola has a huge chunk of the market and consistently receive high marks from consumer products testing groups.

Kids

Your kids will get as much of a kick out of it as we did as children. Another difference from cell phones is that there’s no air time charge (at all, ever), so you can give one to your kids without worrying. The kids loved having them around since it gives them more independence and freedom, especially on out door trips and camping.

Walkie Talkies are a fun way to communicate with your friends and is a pretty good deal considering how cheap they are. Whether you are on the slopes, hiking or simply mucking around in your own house or garden, Walkie Talkies are an absolute must.

AT&T Calling Card Review

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The At&T calling card is very popular for many good reasons. Most of the time, it’s hard to find good information on these cards, such as rates and other card details. In this article, we’re going to discuss the different features and some of the pros and cons of AT&T calling cards. Pre-paid, post paid what are the options? Well, both options are available for these calling cards. however, the post-paid option is generally only available if you have other services with AT&T, such as home phone service, a regular long distance plan or internet service. Also, the pre-paid option generally has better rates.

The AT&T calling card has the kind of quality and features you’d expect. Outstanding connectivity, domestic and international calling (call from more than 100 foreign countries!), no connection/maintenance fees, and no expiration. Here’s a card you’ll always wish to have with you! The option of being able to use this calling card from over 100 countries is great for travelers, students and military personnel. This is really one of the best choices in calling cards if you want great call quality, versatility and dependability.

If you get the pre-paid version of the AT&T calling card your rates for US domestic calls is a flat 5 cents/min. International rates vary and we’ll give you a resource later on in this article where you can view the rates and other details on using these calling cards. This same source will also allow you to purchase these calling cards at a discount. Some additional benefits of AT&T calling cards are as follows. No connection or maintenance fees. One minute rounding. Toll free and local access numbers are available. There are no additional service taxes or surcharges. There is a nominal pay phone charge, which is the case with all calling cards. This is due to regulatory reasons. These calling cards have no expiration, which is great. Also, prompt language choices are English & Spanish.

This should give you a good rundown of the benefits and features of these calling cards. Overall, the AT&T calling card offers great quality, convenience and value to anyone that needs to make long distance calls from the U.S. or from over 100 countries around the world.

Experimenting With Remote Control of Amateur Radio Equipment and Software

Image : http://www.flickr.com

This past weekend I was experimenting with a free product called Log Me In from logmein.com. Log Me In is simple to set up and the only requirement for a download of the free software is to create a general user account. No specific information is required except a user name, password and email address. Specific information is of course required to purchase the rather pricey “PRO” version. One caveat, be sure to download and install the free version, otherwise you will see that you will be running the “free 90 day PRO trial”. If this happens to you, log into their site and change the account type back to the free version.

The premise behind Log Me In is that you “link” your home or other Windows desktop with Log Me In. Once your home system is linked, you will have remote control of your desktop as well as file transfer and printing capabilities. When accessing these features, your desktop user name and password are required as an additional level of security. Response time while manipulating the desktop was more than acceptable. During my first “test” my bandwidth was over cable but, based on my second experiment which will be in PART TWO, I suspect the bandwidth of DSL is more than sufficient.

The free version offers remote desktop, printing and file transfers. As you may already suspect, the PRO version offers many more options. One of those missing components of the free version is transferring sound over to the remote computer. Once again it’s free software to the rescue! You may have heard of or already use Skype. Again, Skype is simple to set up and there are only two “tricks” to using it in a remote scenario like this. First, create one user account for your home desktop and a different account for your remote computer. Second, set up the home desktop Skype to “Auto Answer” incoming calls. This setting is found under tools/options/call settings/advanced section. That way you can simply call yourself.

My first test was to use Log me In conjunction with Skype to run Echolink from my remote location (work). Of course this could also be used to run your BIG RIG with CAT software, etc. To accomplish this:

Assuming that Log Me In and Skype are properly installed on both systems:

Call your home desktop via Skype.

Access Log me In and log in via the Remote Desktop option.

When your home desktop is displayed, run Echolink as you normally would.

You may have to use the lightning bolt of the Echolink menu bar to switch between transmit and receive since the remote space bar doesn’t cut it! You may have better luck than I did…

Stay tuned for PART TWO – Using my handheld RX4240 with Skype and Log me In.

The Real McCoy

McCoy’s classic Blue Note date – Dennis W. Wong –
This was pianist McCoy Tyner’s first session for Blue Note after the passing of John Coltrane and it turned out to be a classic. Just about every one of the tunes on this disc are now jazz standards like “Passion Dance”, “Search for Peace”, “Contemplation” and “Blues on the Corner”. McCoy is backed up by his Coltrane teammate, Elvin Jones and bassist Ron Carter. Joe Henderson provided a fine foil for Tyner so much so that they create an empathy akin to what McCoy had with ‘Trane. The same group would reunite for another session on the Telarc label years later but unfortunately lightening doesn’t strike twice. This date belongs to other classic studio sessions like “Everybody Digs Bill Evans”, “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs”, “Giant Steps” and “Newk’s Time” where everything falls perfectly in place. Recommended for all McCoy fans and jazz progressives!! One more thing try and get the original issue of this since the RVG version sounds thin and offers very little separation!!
The Real McCoy: : McCoy Tyner forged his sound as a leader on the amazing session with Joe Henderson, Ron Carter and Coltrane bandmate Elvin Jones. All five distinctive compositions have become jazz standards. A perfect record and an essential one too. This 1967 quartet was McCoy Tyner’s first for Blue Note as a leader, although he had frequently recorded as a sideman for the label–with Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, and Grant Green, among others. One of the last recordings produced by Blue Note founder Alfred Lion, and Tyner’s first as a leader since leaving the legendary John Coltrane Quartet two years before, the session has a special quality. There’s something of the Blue Note sound to the group’s concentrated intensity, perhaps Lion’s contribution as well as engineer Rudy Van Gelder’s, while Tyner, a more conservative musician than Coltrane, was integrating the modal and expressionist forms of the Coltrane quartet into more tightly defined compositional patterns. In tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, Tyner found a true peer, another musician with a strong identity whose style represented a similar amalgam of conventional and innovative elements. Together with drummer Elvin Jones, and bassist Ron Carter, they both reassert the hard-bop mainstream with “Four by Five” and the deep blues of “Blues on the Corner” and extend it with the heightened solemnity of “Search for Peace” and the brilliant rhythmic interplay of “Passion Dance.” –Stuart Broomerread more.

The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking

The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking The best – santiago – Quito, Ecuador
This is Roger’s best work, pure quality.. the fact that he recorded with Eric Clapton on the guitar and Michael Kamen on the pianos its something amazing that you cant miss… 100% recommended.
: With Eric Clapton’s valuable assistance, Waters takes the concept album to new heights on this 1984 masterpiece, his first LP after leaving Pink Floyd. Each of the 12 songs represents a scene of a surreal dream (nightmare?), and Waters brilliantly captures the pendulum of emotions. Periods of serenity and clarity accompany frenzied and distorted passages of chaos and moments of great irony and humor. Along the journey, Waters confronts murderous Arabs in Germany, a steamy sexual liaison, mundane family life, bikers, truckers, housewives, and strangers. He sucks you into his vision by blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s part of the dream. Meanwhile, his use of recurring themes gives the work cohesion. As the mood shifts, Clapton’s guitar perfectly accents Waters’s story, whether with fiery electric explosions or delicate acoustic touches. – Marc Greilsamer
