As with most parents they are concerned of their children’s safety. They want to protect them more than anything but don’t want to invade their privacy too much. With all the sexual predators in the world today it’s becoming a common concern for everyone. By now we all have caller ID’s so when someone calls their number is shown. Now if the phone number is blocked you can setup with your provider to automatically block private calls.

This will force whoever is calling to either stop calling or to begin calling without blocking their phone number with *67. Now once you have the number you can begin running a search on the phone number to see who’s been calling your daughter or son. Don’t worry because even if the phone number is unlisted or is a cell phone number you can still get detailed information of the owner of the phone call.

There are various services which can provide you with up to date and accurate information on the owner of a phone number. These services can run a quick telephone number look up and almost instantly provide you with details about the owner. Once you have the information you can then easily go to one of those sites that has a full database of past predators.

First things first however because you need to have the information of the caller before you can actually find out if they are one and begin finding out who they really are. Telephone number look up services also have a database of unlisted phone numbers as well as cell phone numbers.

When Genworth Life and Annuity released their Colony Term/UL a few months ago it became obvious that something was up, or down. With insurance companies raising the prices on term insurance for the last year and a half, this new product overcame some obstacle that allowed Genworth to lower prices and rocket to the top of the price leader board.

With several other companies poised to follow suit I think it’s important for agents and clients to understand what part of this new product is allowing them to lower rates. This comes at a time when reserve requirements mandated by state insurance commissions had them all moving their prices the other direction.

At first glance it appeared that the catch might be the fact that while term is convertible, a universal life product generally requires a large catchup (cash infusion) to carry the policy beyond the guaranteed level premium period. Once I received a full illustration it became apparent that there was no real advantage there because on the illustration I ran, the Term/UL level premium ran for 15 years and then the price jumped up in the 16th year to a rate comparable to a competitive universal life with a guarantee to age 105. Unlike term, whose guaranteed rates starting in year 16 go up annually, the Term/UL jumped up and remained level to age 105. No downside there.

What we were looking for was some component that would lead to a larger number of premature lapses. As that number goes up, reserve requirements go down simply by the fact that there will absolutely be less claims to potentially pay. Less claims = lower reserves = lower prices!

The next area we looked at was a fairly common occurrence, especially in tough economic times, the need to decrease the size or face amount of the policy. While we would all like to keep our life insurance at the level we want, budget almost always wins the war. So, we get calls asking to cut the size of a policy down and most companies are very gracious about that and it’s a painless process.

But here’s the catch. With the new term/ul products it appears that companies will have a surrender charge and if you decide to decrease the size of your policy, the surrender charge could kick in and make it economically impossible. In many cases this will throw people into a situation where, since they can’t afford what they have, lapse is the only option and then go elsewhere for a smaller term policy. A real hassle. And if there’s been a health change, maybe they will be in a position of no longer being able to afford life insurance.

I don’t like it. It seems like kind of a sleazy move to drive down reserve requirements, but let’s see how we can make it work. The only problem we could find with the new product is the issue of downsizing. So, if there is really no chance that you will need to decrease your policy, no harm, no foul. If you believe there is that possibility, consider taking out two or more policies to achieve your total needed. So if you want $1,000,000, why not consider two $500,000 policies or one $500,000 and two $250,000. Then if you need to downsize, you simply cancel a policy which doesn’t incur a surrender charge. You get all the advantages of the new product and take the one disadvantage out of play.

Bottom line. It appears several top term players will be making this change. What isn’t clear yet is if they will change completely or offer a choice of term or term/ul. Whichever way they go it is incumbent upon the agent to make sure clients do the right thing so they have flexibility down the road.

This video was going to be added to the end of my bug out bag- lantern video, but after having interest in it after my hiking video, I decided to post it . I had only used it a few times before the night hike, it seems to be a great little product, that works great for keeping an eye on my dog during night hikes, and making him more visable to traffic in the city night enviroment.

Do you know you can choose the way you perceive your experiences? One of the presuppositions of Neuro-Linguistic-Programming(NLP), which is often called the psychology of excellence because it provides a model of what high-achievers do, is that there is no failure, only feedback. In other words, you can choose to regard anything which does not work out right for you or the way you wanted it to, as a learning step in finding the right way to go about it. Most successful people, if you do even a little research, have experienced setbacks, and even what others might consider to be spectacular failures. You will see that they learned from their mistakes, made adjustments to the way they did things and had the faith and resilience to continue until they achieved success. I love hearing stories about people who were told, often when they were young, that they could not do something, that they lacked the abilities in some way, then went on to achieve remarkable results. There are many examples of this in the histories of famous people such as Einstein, Winston Churchill and so on. I had a friend who was consistently placed in the bottom grade for Mathematics at High School, and achieved a doctorate degree in quantum physics by the age of 30.

Re-Framing, PollyAnna and Playing The Glad Game

Re-framing is a technique used in NLP to change a negative perception of a person, situation or event into a positive one which allows you to be in a happier, more relaxed and therefore more resourceful state of mind. Think of Pollyanna, the cheerful girl in the book and the film, who always saw something good in everything. My sister has her own version, which she calls the ‘Glad Game’. For everything that happens which might easily be perceived as negative and undesired, the Glad Game involves finding something useful or worthwhile about it. It can become a very enjoyable habit to acquire, which eventually will attract more positive people and situations to you. Even if at first you are not convinced of the advantages in a situation, have fun with it and notice how you can choose to shift your feelings about anything. It might also prove really irritating (i.e. uncomfortable) to people who are determined to cling onto their miserable viewpoint, so at times it may be better to play the Glad Game in the privacy of your own mind.

Play around with things which seem ‘small’ or quite trivial to begin with, if you are more comfortable with that, then apply it to things which seem ‘big’ to you, the really important stuff. Let’s look at some examples:

You’ve missed your bus/train and are going to be late for work. You could re-frame that to decide that you enjoy being early and feel more motivated to make sure you are next time. Or it could just be that the next bus won’t be as congested and you’ll have a more comfortable ride. Maybe you didn’t eat breakfast and it gives you chance to grab a tasty snack.

You go to Weight-Watchers and haven’t lost anything at your weekly weigh-in. Perhaps that special occasion meal or party was worth it anyway, and you know that won’t be happening next week. Or have you just made other ‘non-losers’ feel better?

You didn’t get the job you really wanted? It’s an opportunity to get useful feedback when you go after the job that is going to be really right for you. You may also have noticed things about your potential colleagues, journey to work and/or workspace that you would prefer to be different in your ideal job, anyway. Unsquashable optimism is an important part of this.

Your feelings can provide an excellent guide to this; for example, if you are feeling really wretched about the way someone has treated you, you can look at it as providing you with an indicator of the way you do want to be treated, and focus on how that would be and how good it would feel.

It can be also be really liberating to re-frame your past experiences this way, and free yourself from the cumbersome baggage you have been carrying around with you. You can let go of all those heavy thoughts of deprivation, neglect, rejection, disappointment, guilt, heartbreak, failure when you can find a way of looking at them from a different vantage point. You have control over the script of your life-story, so write, and re-write it, until it becomes your Happy Story. Enjoy!
