No this is not a seasonal warning about thieves and pick-pockets (well certainly not the usual variety) but rather a heads up about the annual onslaught of direct mail from those glorious companies who have our welfare dearest to their hearts, the Worlds Credit Card Companies!

Bless them they have had a hard time this year with the annual revenue per card halving in the past five years, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers in their recent report “Precious Plastic 2007″. All because by and large we have managed to get to grips with the ways they have been robbing the living daylights out of us for the past god knows how long!

Apparently their problems are largely threefold (he says trying hard not to laugh) and they are roughly the following:

1. The number of people who are euphemistically known as “Rate Tarts” that is to say those who rather smartly are able to take advantage of being able to move their debts from one card to another taking advantage of interest free and low interest deal has grown. The downside of this type of action is that you have to be very careful and time it to perfection to make this sort of activity work for you.

I know of at least one major Credit Card Company that establishes its major model of Customer acquisition through offering ridiculous deals at the start and working on the principle that some poor unfortunates will get it wrong and end up paying for the rest. I mean where else would you get away with going from zero to 29.9% in less than a Month. In the old days it was called usury!

2. Apparently bad debts are on the rise again? Well that one took a lot to spot! Wow, never saw that one coming!

If you take your little bits of plastic and offer them to kids who have no idea of ever having had to budget in their lives before OR (and this is more of a heinous crime) prey upon those who are already in financial difficulties then you should hardly complain when you occasionally get it wrong!

It would appear the effects of never having had it so good has been to cause more than the usual number of households to overstretch themselves on the old household front and now are struggling to make their payments

3. Lastly, it would appear that (certainly in the UK and I am sure in the US too) that the Authorities have got wise to what is going on and at last decided to get heavy with them over their laughably ridiculous penalties and fines for late payments.

I know of another poor individual who got close to their credit limit, an unexpected payment came in (despite that fact that the electronic control system should not have authorised it), took them over their limit and then got hit with a double jeopardy of late payment / over the limit fees leading to more…..you’ve guessed it more over limit fees and then the whole thing compounded nicely downhill from there on in!

The bottom line to all of this is that is that in the UK for their 32 million Card holders the Credit Card Companies are looking to recoup upwards of £1 billion in potential lost revenues!

Have to agree with most of the observations about “Music from Lifehouse.” While a few editing cleanups and some bonus features may have been niceties, this is really just about the concert, and the booklet has enough quotes and backstory from Pete. If you want more, watch the Classic Albums series DVD of “Who’s Next.” On the other hand, if you want a beautiful concert of Who staples and their Lifehouse counterparts, played by a fantastic band of musicians, with lead by Pete the storyteller himself, you’ve come to the right place indeed!

When I started reading this book, I was immediately intrigued with how fluid the sentences were composed and how vividly the images came off the page. I had to stop reading and google the author’s name, Francis Ray, to see why this book was so good. No wonder. With twenty novels in print, a dozen awards and various series, Francis Ray is more than a writer – she is a franchise.

Not Even if You Begged is for the “grown and sexy” in the literal sense of that phrase. I’m not talking about the cute, early twenties reader that’s lost in the club scene that says, “Ooooh, that’s my song!” to just about anything on the DJ puts on. No, this book is geared more for the mature reader whose perspective shapes their life and not the other way around.

This book focuses on the love lives of two members of “The Invincibles” women’s club – Traci Reed and Maureen Gilmore. Holding true to the title, both women have the hardest time letting love run its course, but for two very different reasons. The bad thing is that the men actually beg to love and be loved, and that’s what makes this book so good!

Maureen Gilmore is a widowed Southern Belle that owns a thriving antique shop. Although her beauty is ageless, she has a hard time being comfortable with nearing sixty. This is especially true when it comes to Simon Dunlap, a police officer who was come to fall in love with Maureen. She is equally in love. Instead of following her heart, she makes a myriad of excuses such as, her inability to have children or Simon’s ability to pursue a more fruitful relationship.

Traci is a full-figured, hard-nosed lawyer that runs her own PR firm. She married her ex-husband for all the wrong reasons. Everyone one of those reasons came back to do more than bite her in the end – and scarred her for life. Forever burdened with emotional baggage, she had the hardest time allowing Maureen’s son, OB-GYN Ryan Gilmore, into her heart for two reasons. One: she thinks she’s too plump for a man of his physique and status to desire. Two: she doesn’t believe she could ever fall in love again after giving her heart to a man who cheated on her.

The problem that both women face is the fact that love is love – uncontrollable, mysterious and consuming. Francis Ray skillfully depicts all of the nuances of the beginning of a lifelong relationship. There’s the misunderstanding, the anxiousness, the confusion, the lust…everything the reader needs to dig deep and become invested in the characters.

These two love sagas are embedded in a novel that includes a psychiatrist that stalks Ryan, a talented teen that is a budding artist but is unloved by his mother and Traci’s grandfather who is struggling to keep his land from being squandered by Traci’s mother.

Not Even If You Begged is the type of book that you read and lose track of time because of how in depth the story is.

Exotic 1% mortgages are not just a financing fad. “In our changing market, from unprecedented low rates to a steady rising of interest rates, these varieties of loan programs have become much more popular,” notes Bill Callanan, a partner with Mortgage Management systems, a San Francisco mortgage broker. Although the traditional long-term fixed-rate loans are still available and popular, California residents are taking a close look at negative amortization loans (neg am loans), interest only loans, deferred interest loans and payment option ARM loans. Exotic mortgages have given many Californians increased purchase power and lower payments.

An option ARM allows consumers to choose four different types of monthly payments. Payments can be interest only, fully amortizing over 30 years, fully amortizing over 15 years, or a minimum 1% payment for the first twelve months. The payments are calculated based on CODI, MTA or COFI. The minimum payments, however, gradually increase over the first five years. Although a pick a payment mortgage allows for a lower payment, it doesn’t mean that a buyer that cannot afford the payments on a standard million dollar loan should utilize the product to get one. The 1% percent intro rates won’t last forever.

The other difficulty of a payment option loan is that on the sixth year the loan is recast and all the payments following are fully amortized. The fully indexed payment may be tough for the consumer to afford. Not to mention if you have not been paying the principal and interest, instead making minimum payments, you will not have built any equity. In fact you could have been losing equity in your home.

Many Californians, however, are finding that a payment option is the right purchase loan for them if they don’t plan to cash out on equity or if they plan to sell or refinance in a couple of years. It is a good product for someone who anticipates their income increasing dramatically, such as a doctor just out of medical school or anticipates the equity in the home to increase dramatically. The payment option plan can free up cash until the buyer’s cash flow increases or until the home is sold. With most home owners selling within an average of seven years, the old standard fixed-rate 30 year mortgage may not be the best way to make your money work for you.
