I bought this for a mate and he is very happy with it. Says it goes fast and is a lot of fun.
15 mins of fun! – Jose Garcia V – San Jose. CR
It is a good boat, fast, agile and good looking… but you can only ride it 15 min, and then take it out and charge the battery for four hours, there were the fun stops. This seems to be a general issue on battery boats, i guess that if you wanna use it longer than that you need to buy something with gas.

Beside the fact that is a good product, the manaual doesn’t explain you at all how to work with this device. I tried yesterday to record from TV to the device and spend like 3 hr without doing anything.

Maintenance and Protection For Satellite Earth Station Antenna Control System

Image : http://www.flickr.com

a. Antenna system

1. The normal fault is the corrugated horn cover damage, which is caused by its aging. In order to assure the antenna normal operation, we suggest the user should replace it once each in spring and autumn respectively and monthly inspect if the surface of the horn cover is clear and clean it timely.

2. User should repair it by the high-frequency low-loss white paint, but not the normal white paint, when the surface painting peeling off.

3. Measure the antenna ground resistance regularly; better-performance lightening protection equipment should be installed.

4. When the snow covered the antenna, user can try to use the method of high-altitude pour impulse by the high-pressure faucet and clear the snow. In the high-frequency snow area, de-icing equipment should be assembled.

b. Feeder System

1. If waveguide sealing is not good, the inflator will be powered on frequency, which can cause the relay in the inflator broken and over voltage protective device failure, and too big inflation pressure can blow the horn cover scattering. User should check whether the waveguide sealing often and observe if the inflator can work normally; get rid of the fault once founding it.

2. Rotate the antenna in a large range, user should observe the varicose level of waveguide, do not damage the waveguide.

c. Antenna Mount

1. Please select lubricating grease consistent with the model, low-temperature extreme-pressure lubricating grease and anti-corrosion paint to change the grease or repair it.

2. The most frequency fault is for the antenna azimuth and elevation limit switch. Due to interlocking affects, when the antenna can not be rotated, fault appears; this is an important checkpoint. The wind and rain corrosion may cause the contacting point of the limit switch bad, or the aging transmission cables may cause the short circuit, so user should check and replace it in time.

d. Antenna Control System

1. When do the antenna maintenance, user should cut off all the power within the operating region. The voltage of antenna driver is 380V, so personal safety is very important, and maintenance person licensing should be held at switchboard.

2. The faults often appear in the drive control box and power supply, mostly for blowing the fuse. After check and assure no short circuit, replace it and it will be normal.

3. Check regularly the power connector, check if the relay and alternating current electric shock device has the phenomenon of burning black due to the sparking, if yes, replace it in time.

4. Please do not change the parameters in the antenna control unit random, such as EOS, A.O.S, etc.

5. Long-running antenna control unit and tracking receiver has higher requirements for the temperature; user should check regularly if the cooling system works normally, generally the aging fan can cause to stop working, and then the rising temperature in the chassis will make the equipment performance not stable, this fault can be eliminated after replacing the fan.

Above faults are our engineers’ experience, we hope to share with you.

Experimenting With Remote Control of Amateur Radio Equipment and Software

Image : http://www.flickr.com

This past weekend I was experimenting with a free product called Log Me In from logmein.com. Log Me In is simple to set up and the only requirement for a download of the free software is to create a general user account. No specific information is required except a user name, password and email address. Specific information is of course required to purchase the rather pricey “PRO” version. One caveat, be sure to download and install the free version, otherwise you will see that you will be running the “free 90 day PRO trial”. If this happens to you, log into their site and change the account type back to the free version.

The premise behind Log Me In is that you “link” your home or other Windows desktop with Log Me In. Once your home system is linked, you will have remote control of your desktop as well as file transfer and printing capabilities. When accessing these features, your desktop user name and password are required as an additional level of security. Response time while manipulating the desktop was more than acceptable. During my first “test” my bandwidth was over cable but, based on my second experiment which will be in PART TWO, I suspect the bandwidth of DSL is more than sufficient.

The free version offers remote desktop, printing and file transfers. As you may already suspect, the PRO version offers many more options. One of those missing components of the free version is transferring sound over to the remote computer. Once again it’s free software to the rescue! You may have heard of or already use Skype. Again, Skype is simple to set up and there are only two “tricks” to using it in a remote scenario like this. First, create one user account for your home desktop and a different account for your remote computer. Second, set up the home desktop Skype to “Auto Answer” incoming calls. This setting is found under tools/options/call settings/advanced section. That way you can simply call yourself.

My first test was to use Log me In conjunction with Skype to run Echolink from my remote location (work). Of course this could also be used to run your BIG RIG with CAT software, etc. To accomplish this:

Assuming that Log Me In and Skype are properly installed on both systems:

Call your home desktop via Skype.

Access Log me In and log in via the Remote Desktop option.

When your home desktop is displayed, run Echolink as you normally would.

You may have to use the lightning bolt of the Echolink menu bar to switch between transmit and receive since the remote space bar doesn’t cut it! You may have better luck than I did…

Stay tuned for PART TWO – Using my handheld RX4240 with Skype and Log me In.
