OK, so you have a fancy touchscreen Smartphone with the Android operating system (perhaps a Verizon Droid or even a brand new Nexus One from Google), and you want to spice it up with a compatible golf GPS. Maybe you’re already familiar with GolfShot, GolfLogix, and some of the other popular golf GPS apps available for the iPhone and BlackBerry Smartphones, and now you’re wondering what the choices are for Android. The number of apps in the Android market may be kind of puny compared to the huge number of apps available for the iPhone. But there are Android golf GPS apps available. The following list of five top-notch products is a start.
GolfCard was selected by both CNN and Time magazine as the best iPhone golf app for father’s day (2009). Now it’s available for Android phones; both Sprint and Verizon have recently featured GolfCard in their new phone ads. It looks promising, and should probably be more popular than it already is. This inexpensive rangefinder has a database of 28,000 courses, a scorecard for multiple players, statistical analysis, and no subscription fees.
GreenFinder, which is a popular GPS app that also works on Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile phones, can be downloaded and used five times for free. It gives you distances to the front, center, and back of the green, as well as distances to fairway hazards and the distance of your last shot. It costs less than a round of golf and there are no additional fees: you can download all the courses you need and you can even mark your own courses.
FreeCaddie also works on Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Java enabled phones. The free version displays only the distances to the front, center, and back of greens. If you want the really good stuff like distances to bunkers and hazards, a shot distance function, the ability to map your own points, or statistics and scorekeeping, then you need to upgrade to FreeCaddie Pro.
Pocket Caddy from Satsports has 3D flyovers of the entire course and individual holes, distances to the front, center, and back of the green and other points of interest. It also has shot recording, statistical analysis and and a scorecard. With Pocket Caddy you can get a map of your home course included with purchase, or you can easily map courses yourself using Google Earth.
SkyDroid (which is practically free) has distances to the front, center and back of every green on the course, as well as distances to water hazards, bunkers, and other course features. It also has a satellite map view of every hole. You can track the distance of your last shot, download all the courses you want for no extra cost, and you can even use SkyDroid’s Course Mapper to easily map your own courses.

Golf Swing Instruction – How the Correct Swing Tempo Builds a Consistent Golf Swing
Learning the golf swing normally comes in phases. We begin with basics like grip and stance. Then we move on to swing mechanics focusing on things like takeaway and shaft angle. Once we have a good understanding of those things a successful golf swing is all about the execution. Can we execute consistently over an entire round? Round after round?
When we fail to swing consistently, we often go examine our basics and mechanics to correct our swing fault. When that happens to you and there is no obvious fault with either your basics or mechanics then I submit you may want to consider this key: swing tempo.
They say timing is everything. My life experience supports that thought as well and it applies to the golf swing as well. My good friend and playing partner taught me something about this aspect of a solid golf swing thing this fall. During the summer he was swinging better than ever. His drives were long, extra long, and under control. He was confident that he would find the short grass from the tee box nearly every time. His scores certainly reflected his good play. Our group was impressed.
But as the summer changed to fall he “lost it” so to speak. He became inconsistent and erratic. He often had that puzzled look on his face after a shot. You know the one that says, “What just happened here?” The guy began chasing his swing fault by checking his grip, stance and alignment and shaft angle at the half-way point of the backswing. Nothing worked to fix his swing.
Then at the start of a round back in October he came to the first tee grinning. His mood was very up. He stepped up and nailed that first tee shot and followed that up with a solid second shot. His shot making had returned, at least temporarily. The rest of us were just waiting for him to “lose it” again but he kept it up all day.
So on the way from the 15th green to the 16th tee I asked him about his recovery. He told me, ‘I have a song in my head now.” I must have had a blank stare because he went on to explain that he had learned from an eBook about good swing rhythm. He said he followed that up with a few range balls where he put his swing to the beat of a song. He began to sing, “One and Two then Three and Four” and explained that each number represented a certain point in his golf swing. One was takeaway, two was when the club reached the top of the backswing, three was impact and four was his finish position. He said he had been singing that song to himself all day.
I left that conversation with a chuckle only to watch him lace another tee shot off of the 16th. So his issue at the beginning of autumn had not been so much about basics or mechanics but poor golf swing tempo. Once he returned to the proper golf swing tempo that resulted in a more consistent result on the golf course.
All I know is that whatever my buddy learned from that eBook sure did fix what ailed his swing. He still uses that little song when he notices things getting out of whack again. It has made him a better player.
If your thinking your swing could benefit from good swing tempo you might want to check out the eBook Dooley is always talking about.

What is the Biggest Differences Between SkyCaddie Golf and All the Other Choices?
When you start thinking about getting the proper equipment and proper things that you need to improve your golf game you will need to get yourself a yardage device. Not only will this help you on the course, but it will also help your practice sessions and it will help to improve your entire game. One big part of making this decision is to know the difference between SkyCaddie golf and all the other yardage devices that are out there for you to choose from. There are many things to consider, but you must first know what you are dealing with.
When you choose a rangefinder you will be getting a yardage device that allows you to shoot the yardage from anywhere that you are able to see the pin from on the course. This is very advantageous because knowing the yardage you have to go is one great way to get more confidence in your game and the shot you select to hit into the green. This is something that can literally take 5 strokes off your golf game and can do so in a hurry. It only takes a few shots from a similar yardage to start figuring out exactly how far you can hit certain shots that you did not even know you had in your bag.
A rangefinder is a great tool, but SkyCaddie golf is another option you can choose and it has some benefits you cannot get from any other yardage device. The best part about having a SkyCaddie system is that you not only get the yardage to the pin, but also the yardage to back of the green and the front of the green. It will also show you the yardage to hazards, bunkers, and anything else you might need to avoid. This can make it much easier to hit the proper shot to end up right where you need to be for your next shot.
The choice is clearly yours and you can go with a rangefinder or a SkyCaddie golf system. Either one of them are going to improve your game if you use them properly and you start to figure out exact yardages instead of guessing where the pin is and what your yardage is. This is an easy way to start shaving strokes off your game and giving yourself the edge you need to beat everybody in your foursome and in any tournaments you play in.

How Much Pain Does Your Golf Swing Inflict With Age?
For many aging golfers when playing golf it can lead to many different injuries, pains and strains. According to the National Golf Foundation last year in 2008, over 30,000 injuries occurred that lead to a trip to the emergency room or doctors office.
Most problems found were caused by having arthritis to begin with and then overcompensating for the discomfort in the golf swing that resulted in back pain, knee and hip replacements. For most golfers they don’t think about injuries. Their focus is on having fun and improving their golf swing and golf scores. However, it can take a surprising toll on different parts of your body when your golf swing mechanics is out of alignment.
Older golfers especially who aren’t physically active will find their bodies breaking down that can lead to multiple aches and pains as well as injuries. Those golfers who are out of shape and not as strong physically as they once were will feel the pressures of physical activity a lot more. Which places a lot of stress and strain on lower backs, hips, knees, shoulders, neck, hands, wrists and elbows.
You will do a lot of bending and stretching with teeing the golf ball up, repairing divots, marking the ball while on the green, retrieving the ball, picking a club up off the ground and much more, etc. Also, while walking a nine or 18 hole round of golf over hilly terrain is great exercise,it can take a physical toll on the body.
You can reduce some of the physical stresses that comes with playing golf by improving your golf fitness and by warming up before you play. Older golfers especially need to take time too stretch their muscles, focusing on their legs, shoulders and back. This all needs to be done before picking up a golf club and start hitting golf balls.
I would then recommend starting out slowly and hit a few golf balls at a time with different golf clubs until you have built up your stamina to start swinging with your driver. Then you cool down by reversing the order of clubs you started with.
Many golfers drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages before and during play. They’re also not aware that their prescription medications, especially some heart medications, interferes with their body’s ability to cool itself off. In which case it increases the risk of heat sickness.
Instead drink plenty of water and sugarless juices, and be prepared to take some sandwiches with you. Sugar will cause a short term spike in energy but, it doesn’t last long enough, and it will actually drain your energy when you need it the most.
Don’t eat junk food like hamburgers or hot dogs at the turn it will also reduce your stamina in later holes. You want the right kind of nutrition that will give you that extra boost of energy when your body needs it the most during your finishing holes.
There are many different books and videos on the topic of “How to improve your fitness.” There are many great places to look up this information. There’s also a variety of golfing gadgets and equipment that can help as well. Those who have hand and wrist pain, gripping a golf club can be challenging for golfers who have carpal tunnel syndrome, hand or wrist arthritis, or limited hand strength.
To help, there are specially designed golf gloves you can purchase that can enhance your grip. You can get larger, softer grips installed on your golf clubs. It makes the golf clubs easier and more comfortable to hold onto. Your golf shop manager should be able to help you with it.
However, with the Natural Golf System, seniors can now learn to play or continue to enjoy their favorite pastime with ease and comfort. With our population aging and seniors moving to warmer climates, golf continues to be the sport of choice. It can be a relaxing exercise for those who have passed the point for more extreme recreational activities.
Simplifying the basic golf swing not only provides golfers with a chance to score better, but makes playing the game easier on an elderly person’s body. The new golf swing eliminates much of the head and body rotation of conventional swings and creates a simpler, easier to learn, more natural motion.
They have found out through many research tests of the system that older golfers including super seniors, by applying the natural golf swing it tends to eliminate shear force on the muscles and vertebrae in the lower back. In a conventional swing there is a much more torque to the turn on the down swing through the lower half of the body through impact. For seniors, using an upright stance and single-axis swing is much easier on the lower back.
The non-tapering grip on the golf clubs is much easier on golfers with arthritis since they grip with their palms, rather than their fingers. It allows seniors to play more with less discomfort and fewer aspirins. Although it won’t cure what may be ailing the older golfer.
Many golfers who have been forced to give up the game will find that it does give them a second chance to enjoy the game they truly love.
As we get older our golf game isn’t the same and we must endure the aches and pains that goes with our ability to golf swing. You can find out more about this information at:
