When confronted with the task of making a presentation, most people do the following:

1. Start a presentation by opening PowerPoint or the mail by typing.

2. Find and merge bits and pieces from presentations and notes made by others.

3. Expect the presentation/ communication to be bad.

4. Use complex charts, tables, words wherever possible to show their acumen.

Why are we calling these common preparation steps – mistakes?

1. Preparation Step: PowerPoint, Keynote or Outlook is not software that aid thinking. You are busy adjusting font sizes and colours – not thinking about what needs to be actually said.

2. Preparation Step: Merging presentations or others work is like trying to create the best car in the world by merging engine from one car, doors from another, windows from another. It just doesn’t work!

3. Expectation Step: Your expectation that the communication will be bad reflects in your words, body language and voice. After that, you can’t blame your audience for believing you!

4. Delivery Step: Complexity is a great way to turn off audiences. No one who sees a 10 X 10 table is interested in reading it, even if their lives depend on it. Straining the brain is hard work! Keep your words as well as charts/ graphs simple enough for audience to understand easily.

So it is best to prepare your material separately in a notepad (by hand or software) and keep things simple. With all that preparation, you will be convinced yourself that your communication is good and so your audience will believe you too!

Savage Garden – Affirmation (with lyrics)

Hey everyone! I’d like to thank you all for the nice comments I’m receiving! I really appreciate it :) And now some info about the video :) Seems like I had made some mistakes in this video. First of all, it’s not called ‘I believe’, it’s called ‘Affirmation’. Thanks to those who corrected me. And second, I wrote the wrong lyrics at 3:01. I put some annotations there with the correct lyrics. I’m sorry for my mistakes, and thanks to you who corrected me! (and I hope you still like the video….) Take care everyone, and feel free to rate and comment! Made by: Elin

Common Mistakes Sales People Commit

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The primary objective of any sales representative is to be able to entice and encourage potential customers and clients to avail the different products and services that are being offered by the company that they are working for.  However, despite this common knowledge and the fact that companies provide them great commission rates for every product or service that they are able to sell, many sales representatives find themselves struggling to even make one sale in a month.  The main reason for this is that quite often, they unknowingly commit a number of mistakes as they try to make a sale to a prospective customer or client that instead of actually being able to close the deal, they actually drive these potential customers and clients away.

Here are just some of the most common mistakes sales people commit to avoid.

Mistake #1: Failing to Establish a Rapport

One of the most common mistakes that many sales people commit when trying to encourage a potential customer or client is that they focus too much on trying to convince the potential customer or client to avail of the products and services being offered by the company that they fail to establish a favorable rapport with them.  Part of being able to make a sale is to be able to establish a sound buyer-seller relationship by providing ample information about what sets the company apart and, more importantly, what sets the company’s products and services apart from other companies that offer similar products and services.  Failing to provide this crucial information to the prospective buyer would help them make the decision to look elsewhere to avail of what they are looking for.

Mistake #2: Asking the Wrong Questions

Another common mistake many sales people commit when doing a sales pitch with a prospective buyer or client is asking the wrong question.  In fact, in a recent survey conducted by an independent group, they were able to discover that 86% of all sales representatives ask the wrong questions to prospective clients and customer during a sales pitch.  This common mistake can lead to disastrous situations where sales representatives eventually find themselves having to overcome with resistance and strong objections on the part of the potential customer or client, which could have been easily avoided if the right questions were asked to begin with.

Mistake #3: Talking to Much

In an effort to sound enthusiastic about the product or service being presented to a potential customer or client, sales representatives tend to do almost all of the talking during the sales pitch.  Although being energetic when presenting a product or service to a potential customer or client is important when doing sales, talking too much also means that they spend lesser time listening to the questions that customers and clients ask after in order to help them make that all-important decision whether to purchase what you are offering or not.  On top of that, talking excessively and dumping too much information to a prospective customer or client can make them lose interest on your sales pitch altogether.  Add these two scenarios up, and you are left with a customer who is more eager in trying to get you to leave rather than make a purchase.

Mistakes Are Inevitable in Negotiations

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Things happen and mistakes are inevitable. There are two sides to making mistakes. If you find out that you made a mistake such as sending a package to the wrong address, it is good to “fess” up as soon as you know about the mixup.

It is always better to hear about a mistake directly from you. If the customer hears it from someone else or discovers the mistake on his own, he will assume that you did it on purpose.

If you are on the receiving end of a mistake, this is a chance to be generous and understanding. Always remember that the goal is to resolve the dispute, and not to find out why the mistake was made. The sooner you put the mistake behind you, the sooner you can find the solution to resolve the situation.

Don’t make the solution overly complicated or get too many people involved in it. For example, if you sent the wrong item to someone, don’t expect them to send it to a third person. It is probably better to offer a refund at this point or have them send the item back to you so you can send it to the third party.

If it is not known who made the mistake, a lot of wasted effort can be directed to the events that led up to the mistake. Try not to dwell on who made the mistake and and concentrate on the solution. As they say, “To err is human, to forgive is divine.”

Five Mistakes Men Make After a Breakup

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Five mistakes men make after a breakup that keep them from getting back with their girl:

1: Being overly nice and telling your girlfriend you love her over and over again

She knows you love her before the first time you tell her. Telling her over and over makes it seem like you’re trying to wear down her defenses, and she’ll resent you for it.

2: Telling your ex-girlfriend you will change and that things will be different next time. She’s probably heard this before, and won’t trust it. Saying something like this comes off as begging, which is a sure turn off.

For you two to have a successful relationship, she’s going to have to change at least as much as you, if not much much more.

3: Buying her gifts like flowers or candy.

This was a nice gesture when you were courting her. She wasn’t hurt then, and you two didn’t have a history together yet. That made the flowers you gave her sweet and romantic, but sweet and romantic isn’t going to win her back.

4: Using phony, manipulative tricks like money or the kids to guilt your ex girlfriend back to you.

Just think about what would happen if this did work. She would come back to you harboring resentment over the way you manipulated her. A woman will come back with proper manipulating of her emotions, but this kind of manipulation will have her even more convinced that she needs to find her way out of your life for good.

5: Trying to argue, logic, or reason her back.

Women make relationship decisions based on emotion and not logic, so to get your ex back you will need to correctly and effectively appeal to her emotions. And you’ve probably argued enough already; trying to convince her in those kinds of ways will just leave a sour taste in her mouth.

Common Mistakes Made by Novice Forex Traders

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Although forex trading isn’t a complex process procedurally, there are things you need to learn about the market to avoid making financially painful mistakes. Never enter the forex trading market until you are armed with knowledge of the market, how it acts and why the pros trade the way they do. This preparation could mean the difference between great profit and great loss.

Follow these rules to avoid the most common forex trading mistakes:

1. Be humble enough to learn how the market really behaves. Don’t storm in with the idea that you’ll “beat the system” with your new way of looking at the trends or events affecting a particular pair or trade. You may be smart. You may even be smarter than half the traders out there. But that very intelligence can outsmart you! Ego is unwanted and unappreciated in forex trading. It will get in the way of you seeing the market the way it REALLY exists, instead of the way you BELIEVE it exists. A person who studies and learns these movements will beat an overly-eager investor bent on “beating the system” every time.

2. Be accountable for your own trades. If you follow a system or a guru who has promised you untold riches, you’re heading down the wrong path. They all claim to make you rich, but none of them can guarantee it. You need to take responsibility for your own financial transactions and protect yourself from any fallout. This means, among other things, only investing what you can afford to lose.

3. KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid! Some forex traders and books on forex trading present the idea that the more complex a system is, the better it will perform. Nothing could be further from the truth! In this world’s fast-paced economy, changes occur at a rate too fast for a complex system to adjust and keep up. Use a simple system and make money. Complicate it and fall behind.

4. Patience, patience, patience! You need to stay objective and focus on those indicators that define trends. Many new traders will jump into forex trading with a certain system they’ve bought. When it doesn’t make a profit for them, they jump to a different strategy and then another. They never really achieve measurable success. Instead, you need to have patience. ALL STRATEGIES FAIL SOMETIMES! This is important to keep in mind. There are normal fluctuations in the forex market as in any other financial market. Bad periods are followed by good periods. Stick with your system through the minor bad spots until it performs for you again. Decide ahead of time where your exit points will be and stick to it. You’ll be more successful in the long run.

5. Last, but not least, avoid too much subjectivity. Use technical analysis, Forex charts and the like, but don’t become dependent upon them exclusively. Avoid methods that use cycles instead of indicators of trends. Good indicators to use are MACD, RSI, moving averages, stochastic and Bollinger bands. These will keep you focused and emotion-free.

Proper education and discipline go a long way towards profitability when it comes to forex trading.

‘Serenity Actual’ Pt 3: Tactical Crossroads

Serenity Actual Part 3: More full-scene action and background work of Nutnfancy and crew’s “Armed Serenity” shoot 2009. Putting it together, ensuring safety, maximum runs for everyone, getting USABLE video and pictures (no time to check if they came out on scene, only afterward), setting up and executing scoring, making sure shooters stay under pressure (and are helped by their safety monitors)…all within just a few hours of daylight (for best filming) is near impossible. But we did it and it turned out pretty good (although I can never get enough video!). Here we show the “Crossroads” 200 yd RunNGun with my run through to demo it. It is a difficult exercise that shows the shooter’s ability to remain calm under pressure (some), physical fitness (to a degree!), and marksmanship skills under time constraints. Later, for time and the large group awaiting sequence, we had to pare it down to only the 100 yd RunNGun with the 200 yd plate engagements accomplished separately. Some may roll in and criticize various things like shooter’s heavy breathing, shooting stances, and the always-present mistakes (intentionally left in for audience learning). But again this a just a group of dudes practicing and learning their systems and they are representative of ALL shooters, including YOU. I have yet to see any kind of shooter not make big mistakes under a competitive tactical course like this. Armchair elitism doesn’t play well in TNP and any critics need to have vids showing their

I will try to fix you

Fix You Lyrics Original Artist: Coldplay Sung by: Fred Knittle in Young@heart When you try your best but you don’t succeed When you get what you want but not what you need When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep Stuck in reverse. And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can’t replace When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you And high up above earth or down below When you’re too in love to let it go But if you never try you’ll never know Just what you’re worth Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you Tears stream, down your face When you lose something you cannot replace Tears stream down your face and I… Tears stream, down your face I promise you I will learn from my mistakes Tears stream down your face and I… Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you.
