Remember the 60s? They were a time of beach tunes, tie-dye, bell-bottoms, and muscle cars. Vintage 1960s Pontiac cars were some of the biggest, baddest muscle cars on the block, with the GTO and Firebird at the head of the list.
The Models
The Pontiac Bonneville. This classic of the vintage 1960s Pontiac cars was one of the biggest, and it was perfect for big families who wanted to impress the neighbors. Available in a convertible or hardtop, the engine packed 389 cubic inches offering 348 horsepower paired with Tri-Power carburetion.
The Catalina. It might not be the most memorable of the vintage 1960s vintage Pontiac cars, but the Catalina could pack a wallop. It was a big boat of a car with a 421-inch V-8 engine that could speedily accelerate to 95 miles per hour in the 2 + 2 model of 1964-1967.
The Firebird. This was the Pontiac version of the sporty Chevy Camaro, and its low price made it popular with young drivers. Produced from 1967 through 1969, it offered both six and V-8 versions with up to 250 horsepower.
The Grand Prix. This was one of Pontiac‘s biggest models, and it lost sales in the 1960s to many of Pontiac‘s smaller, high-performance cars, like the GTO.
The GTO. One of the most famous of the vintage 1960s Pontiac cars, the GTO is still seen as one of the best muscle cars of the 1960s. It was actually smaller than many of the other muscle cars, and with a 421-cubic inch engine, its top speed was 130 miles per hour. It still retains an aura of power and magic today.
The Tempest. The Tempest was one of Pontiac‘s first attempts at a compact car, which were just becoming popular in the early 1960s. It was actually based on the ill-fated Chevy Corvair, the rear engine air-cooled engine car that became one of Chevy’s worst cars in history. However, the Tempest had different styling and a front-mounted engine, so its fate wasn’t as harsh as the Corvair. The four-cylinder engine was revolutionary for its day, and was developed in part by automaker John Z. DeLorean.
The Ventura. The Ventura was only produced in 1960 and 1961, and after that, it merged into the Grand Prix line. It was based on the Catalina body and frame, and after 1961, the Ventura disappeared into the sunset.
So, what did a Pontiac set you back way back in the day?
o A Pontiac Bonneville would run you around $3,255 in 1961, but by 1969 the price had risen to $4,733.
o A Pontiac Catalina would run you about $3,149 in 1964, but that’s a bargain considering the power and performance of the Catalina.
o In 1967, the popular Pontiac Firebird was a steal at $2,667, which may be one reason this fleet little model was so trendy.
o The big, bad Pontiac GTO was only $3,227 in 1968, and considering the power under the hood, that was quite a bargain.
o Finally, the family model, compact Pontiac Tempest ran $2,418 in 1963, making it a great car for small families on the go.

Wrestlemania – The Grandest Stage of Them All

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Nicknamed “The Grandaddy of Them All”, Wrestlemania is a worldwide global wrestling event that draws the attention of millions of wrestling and entertainment fans every year. First produced by WWE owner Vince McMahon in 1985, it has lasted for more than 25 editions, with the 26th anniversary taking place in 2010.
Since its creation, It has quickly become the most prominent event in professional wrestling. Its popularity and success have helped many of WWE’s superstars such as Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, and more to the rise of stardom. It is also currently the dream of thousands of wrestlers and fans alike to be able to participate in the Superbowl of professional wrestling. To most wrestlers, being able to partake in the event is considered to be highlight of their careers and most would be label as having unsuccessful careers if their names do not show up on the event card.
Wrestlemania usually takes place in late March or early April annually. Most of the television shows such as Raw and Smackdown are designed to eventually reach their climax at the event, which features most of the organization’s championship titles, especially the World Heavyweight Title and WWE’s own World Title. Besides these, the event is also well known for putting up specialty and gimmick matches such as the recently addition of Money in the Bank, where the only way to be declared the winner is to climb a ladder in an attempt to reach a briefcase suspended high above the ring while fending off five to seven competitors. This fast pace and exciting match, filled with high flying maneuvers, amazing aerobics and stunts, have been a fan favorite since its inauguration five years ago.
Just How big is Wrestlemania? For a typical wrestling event, sports arenas is usually the prefer method of attendances. However, nine of the 25 editions have been held in large stadiums used by the NFL and the MLB. Those attendances goes from the low 54,097 at the 19th edition in Seattle to the current world indoor attendance record of 93,173 in Pontiac, Michigan at the event’s 3rd anniversary. That edition is widely considered to be the pinnacle of the wrestling boom in the 1980s and was the largest paying attendance in professional wrestling at that time.
Perhaps some of the greatest wrestling moments occurred at Wrestlemania. Long time wrestling fans will mention Hulk body slamming Andre the Giant, the acclaim match between Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat, the Ultimate Showdown, the classic Ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon, the 60 minute Iron Man, Stone Cold’s first world championship, the various Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, The Rock and Hogan showdown, the emotional retirement of Ric Flair, and the Undefeated 17-0 streak of the Undertaker.
Due to the popularity and the wide appeal of Wrestlemania, many celebrities have participated with different levels of involvement throughout the 25 years. The first edition witnessed boxing legend Muhammad Ali and Mr. T. The second edition saw a 20 man battle royal pitting WWE superstars against NFL players. Mike Tyson appeared at XIV as the special guest enforcer, while professional welterweight boxer Flyod “Money”Mayweather battled The Big Show at XXIV. The latest saw Oscar-nominated best actor Mickey Rourke as a spectator for a match that ended with him delivering a knock out blow to wrestler Chris Jericho.
Furthermore, many renowned musicians such as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire, Little Richard, Boyz II Men, Ashanti, John Legend, Motorhead, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock have also performed at the events.
Thought 25 years have passed since its first inauguration, Wrestlemania still shows no signs of slowing down as many cities are still bidding for WWE to bring the event to their cities as the event have helped brought in millions of dollars of revenues in the respective cities through the years. Would we see more memorable moments in the future from this event? We will just have to wait and see.

The New Pontiac G8 GXP

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Make no mistake about it the new Pontiac G8 GXP will come out of the gate fast and hard. This is not your dads Pontiac. There is already a GT version of the G8 on the streets and it looks fantastic. It has a dual ventilated hood, quad-tip exhaust, and 367 ponies under the hood. Sounds neat right? Well buckle up, the new GXP model is comin to town.
How does 402 horsepower and 400 lb ft of torque from the new corvette LS3 power plant sound? That’s right just like the GTO this little devil will have the all new award winning LS3 engine. It will put that power to ground via a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox or a HydraMatic 6L80 auto. A fully-adjustable suspension made by MacPherson. MacPherson strut front and multilink coil-over rear carry forward with a direct-acting front anti-roll bar, decoupled rear stabilizer bar and lateral ball joints on the rear. Caster, camber, and toe are adjustable in front, and camber and toe are adjustable in the rear. What does all this jargin mean? This car is fine tunable for the the strip, street, and track.
It sports 19″ HSV wheels wrapped in P245/40R19 summer tires. These tires will take this car to 150MPH. Don’t fret for those that live in imperfect weather there are 3 other choices including a set of all season tires. Lodged in those wheels are huge ventilated 14-inch 355mm front and 12.76-inch 324mm clamped by Four piston Brembos in front and Single pistons in the rear.
Lets talk performance: 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds 0.2 second quicker than the Dodge Charger R/T, and 0.6 seconds quicker then the G8 GT. The quarter runs by at 13 flat and 108 MPH.
Interior styling should be nice with well bolstered seats and leather trim available. You can also get xm satellite radio, and a 230 watt blaupunkt system to add that thump. All this should make for a very fun ride with gobs of horsepower and torque anywhere in the powerband. Once again there will always be the great debate Chevy power or Mopar? Well! You be the judge.

2008 National Auto Sales Estimate Not Pretty

Image : http://www.flickr.com
The National Auto Dealers Association has estimated that there will only be 10 million car sales in the USA for 2008. Although that estimate could change it is not likely to scream back up to the 15 million needed for all the domestic auto manufacturers to return to normalcy.
If you will recall the 17 million figure was the standard for many years in row, so 10-million is better than nothing, but it is still considered a full-blown catastrophe to the industry. And that pretty much wipes out the hope for profitability for any of the auto manufacturers selling in the USA. So far there have been drastic cuts by auto dealers, manufacturers, suppliers and well, it’s almost as if there is nothing left.
Many of the brand names that Americans have come to love are now gone too, for instance; GM sold Saturn and Hummer, while closing the Pontiac Brand, and Oldsmobile and Buick are already long gone. But car sales are not bad everywhere. China is selling mega cars right now due to a 50% reduction in sales taxes on each auto purchase and savings of a couple of hundred dollars in road fee-tax assessments.
In California, the car capital of the world went and does the opposite, raising sales tax 1% and doubling registration fees; which plan do you think will work best? Hint: Milton Friedman. So, one has to ask if the Chinese, China being a communist nation what works and why. So, with that said is China teaching the US how capitalism really works these days?
And although all this sounds like bad news for America, our economic future and the auto industry, sometimes it pays to allow the free-enterprise system to straighten everything out, rather than forcing a square peg through the proverbial rounded hole.

Steam Iron Reviews – How Reading Real Reviews Can Save Your Money
Steam iron reviews are all over the internet. There are probably hundreds of different iron models, and many of the reviews are biased. Many review sites are setup by internet marketers who want you to buy a specific model as they get a larger commission on that item. You can spend hundreds of dollars on the best irons on the market, or you can spend $5 and get a low-end iron. There are many features to consider as you make your purchase.
You can wind up spending a lot of money on these if you buy the cheapest one on the market. If you purchase one of the cheap low-end on the market, you are going to have to replace it every year or two. Many of the low-end models don’t have all of the features that many irons have. If the model doesn’t provide a detailed temperature gauge, you could easy burn your clothes, or it could leave spots on your cloths. It doesn’t make any sense to buy a cheap piece if it starts ruining your clothes!
There are several other important features on steam irons you want to review. Make sure the iron has the auto shut off feature. This is imperative if you iron regularly. It is very easy to forget what you are doing when you are in a hurry trying to get ready for work. In a rush to get to work on time, it would be easy to leave the iron plugged in all day. The last thing you want to do is burn down your home.
The water reservoirs are also important on irons. What kind of water reservoir does your iron have? It may not seem that important, but it will save you a couple minutes if you can see much water is left in the iron. This is useful if you are in a hurry to leave for work.
There are other things to consider too. You can buy your iron from a big department store, or you can buy your iron from a specialty store online. While there is nothing wrong with buying your iron from the department store, there are several advantages to buying it online. Online retailers specialize in getting you the best deals on irons. Online retailers can get better deals on appliances as they cut out the middle man. Many of their irons come straight from the factory, so they don’t have to tack on extra charges for shipping the items to department stores.
Be sure to check out all of the steam iron reviews to get the best deals on steam irons. By reading real reviews, you can find irons that efficient irons that will work for years. Buying the right iron could save you hundreds of dollars in new clothing. Websites that specialize in appliances will help you make an educated decision on your iron.

Improved MPG Coming to a New Car Near You!

Image : http://www.flickr.com
You won’t have to wait several years for all new car models to arrive to get higher gas mileage. Today, every automobile manufacturer is looking for ways to squeeze an extra mile per gallon or two out of their existing cars and in ways that aren’t necessarily costly.
The race is on: who can build the most thriftiest vehicle in their segment? For the new car shopper, this kind of competition will benefit them in the form of more fuel efficient cars and trucks, resulting in less strain on the wallet.
Let’s take a look at some ways that manufacturers are making their vehicles less fuel thirsty for the 2009 model year:
Ford Escape – Ford’s hot selling SUV features a hybrid model, but the biggest fuel savings gains for 2009 is with the 2WD base model. A new six speed automatic transmission, variable valve timing (VVT) and electric steering will help boost highway mileage from 26 miles per gallon (mpg) to 28 mpg.
Pontiac G5 – Along with its sister car, the Chevy Cobalt, the G5 will now get a segment leading 37 mpg for its XFE (eXtra Fuel Economy) model. Gear ratio changes for the transmission, low resistance tires from Goodyear, and engine timing changes have helped GM squeeze an extra 1 mpg highway out of the car.
Chrysler Sebring – Along with its sister model, the Dodge Avenger, the Sebring midsize sedan will get 31 mpg highway, matching the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in fuel economy. Chrysler LLC credits changing transmission shift intervals and using more fuel efficient air conditioning compressors with helping these cars achieve improved fuel economy.
While all of these gains are certainly good, the best cars are still coming. GM, for example, has announced that its new Chevy Cruze will get 45 mpg when it appears in 2010. Just before that, a thrifty Ford Fiesta will makes its debut with fuel economy topping 40 mpg. Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, and several other manufacturers have other models in the works which should make the 40 mpg segment rather crowded.
So, if you’re shopping for a new car, check the window sticker very closely – gains can be had, but you need to find out just who is providing them.
