How to FACE The Holidays

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The holidays of 2010 are upon us and the feelings within you range from joy to frustration, excitement to downright depression and everything in between. There are so many expectations included within the idea of Thanksgiving and Christmas in the United States that most people would truthfully say they “dread the holidays.”

How can you make this celebratory season your own? How might you own it and still leave room for all of the other participants in your family/friend/acquaintance social structure to act or react as they usually do? Well, as I always say, you can only change you – so let’s begin right there – with you and how you can grasp the gala tiger by the tail and claim it as your own.

The first thing you will want to do is acknowledge that you already know what you are walking into in other people’s homes or what they might bring by way of attitude into your home. You’ve lived through it before so you basically know what the model looks like and this gives you the edge and your first clue:

1. Define how you will “be” within your energy stream before you walk into the room at any given time. For instance, you are invited to mom and dad’s to have Thanksgiving dinner with the family, including your overwhelming brother, your drunken uncle and your nasty nephew. You already know their traits so don’t put emphasis on that – focus on how you are going to be in that room with the whole gang.

2. When you arrive, check in with yourself before you enter the house. Make sure you are in harmony with you (that’s all that is important). Be sure you know what “you” feel like when you are in harmony with yourself. When you do that you will immediately know when you have slipped out of harmony through reaction to one of the other’s words or actions. If you’re smart, you will be practicing this in your daily life so you will know how to work with your energy before the big day.

3. Enter the house in your harmonious energy and maintain your focus upon it. Don’t draw attention to your life; listen to what others are telling you about themselves. Ask questions – lots of questions. It makes you the very best of guests because other people love to talk about themselves. If something uncomfortable comes up, choose your battles. You are not there to make sure everyone believes in what you believe in or to assure them that you are doing the right things in your life. If something disruptive begins, ask yourself how far you are willing to participate in it.

This goes for all conversations, not only at the holidays though it seems to be exacerbated during those times. If you are not attempting to prove a point, be noticed, affirmed or confirmed in your life choices, you will not set yourself up for the usual judgment that accompanies offering more information than anyone wants to hear.

4. So, the disruption has begun – say Uncle Jack has gotten drunk and very loud – once again. First, is it bothering you, really or are you simply judging Uncle Jack for his actions? If you are in judgment, it’s a good time to step out of it; it’s his life. If his actions are truly upsetting to the whole however, you may invite yourself to be authentic. This is where your harmony comes in. There is nothing that stops you from saying, “I feel it is time for me to head home now. Things are a bit louder than I feel comfortable with. Everyone enjoy themselves. Good night.” Then leave without recriminations. You are taking care of yourself.

If it is the reverse and the party is at your home, make a firm intention that should the need arise, you will let the person or persons involved in the fracas know that it is time to either leave, ask someone else to drive them home or call them a taxi. You are in charge so be in charge!

You can take these four tips and reassign them to your own situation. It boils down to:

1. Focus your attention on your own harmony

2. Know what harmony and balance feel like within you

3. Stay curious about others rather than talking about yourself, opening the door to personal disruption

4. Be firmly and politely assertive when things become too chaotic, extricating yourself from the situation (or extricating the person who is creating the chaos).

If all of this seems a little too simple, don’t be fooled. It is much more complex in practice – and practice is what it takes. You can actually use these tips for all areas of your life, yet when you already know that the holidays will bring out the most agitated behavior in your social network, it is time to claim your space as your own rather than blaming others for how they are acting or reacting to any situation.

Practice, practice, practice.

History of Counterfeit Money

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Counterfeit money actually has a very long history, which means the concept is not really all that new. Currency has been around for a long time and with currency comes greed. They say that money is the root of all evil and counterfeiting is definitely not an exception. It involves creating artificial money for financial gain and deceives others in making them believe that it is real. It contributes to inflation that hurts the pocket books of people all over the world, it damages economies, and it hurts the reputations of the central banks of countries that are innocent because they are not the ones creating the fake cash. That is why governments impose harsh penalties against those caught making fake money.

But exactly how long has counterfeiting money been around? Well, it is true to say that it has been around about as long as money has been around. But how long has legitimate money been around? Well, it has been around approximately 2,700 years. Before that, our ancestors were trading sheep and cattle to get what they needed. They worked to acquire the things they had, but money was not their compensation. Their compensation was things needed in everyday living. The introduction of money changed everything, including how honestly some people made their living. Money became the way in which people acquired things, therefore things such as poverty worsened.

History

It was approximately 700 B.C. that real currency made its debut in the form of coins. It was within a hundred years of coins being introduced as currency that counterfeiting began. With it, the punishments began as well. Many cultures imposed death upon those caught counterfeiting coins. The practice wasn’t very difficult since the fake coins could very easily be made of metals that held no value, but looked like the real thing.

But it was in 1650 A.D. that paper money was developed and counterfeiting flourished, especially within America where counterfeit money was more common than genuine money. Counterfeiters had become so skilled that when the first federal coins were issued by the U.S. government in the 1780′s, they had the dies cut by an ex-counterfeiter in order to deter the practice, but it was during the Civil War that counterfeiting flourished once more because the United States government issued paper money for the first time.

As a result of this counterfeiting, the Secret Service was developed just to enforce the counterfeiting laws. Their job was to find the counterfeiters before the money ever made it into the money supply. Eventually, the Secret Service’s operations expanded to include the protection of the president, which is on a completely different spectrum from deterring counterfeiting, which was an operation conducted by the Treasury.

However, it was the late twentieth century that brought about machinery such as color copiers and other electronic devices that made counterfeiting easier. It is estimated that nearly $10 billion in counterfeit bills were circulated between 1990 and 1995. That is why the United States began making changes to their bills in 1996, beginning with the $100 bill. The United States Treasury believes that the new designs on the bills make counterfeiting almost impossible, but with each change it is just a matter of time before counterfeiters find new ways to duplicate the bills.

That is why the governments all over the world are imposing harsher penalties such as 15 years in prison on top of fines and restitution for the damage caused. They have also developed advanced methods to track down those creating counterfeit bills. In the end, the counterfeiters must know that they will get caught.

iTestcash is a business solely focused on battling the problems associated with counterfeit money. They have specially patented products, such as counterfeit detection pens, to help business owners protect themselves from receiving counterfeit bills.

Top Quality Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle Life in MonoGuitar Hero 3 is great, however there are some problems with this particular version.First, let me point out the obvious. This is the first and only Guitar Hero game for any Nintendo system. Currently only Rock Band Special Edition has been released for Wii, there are no plans for any of the three other Guitar Hero games will come to Wii. In other words this is the only game in town for GH on the Wii and sadly the game plays songs only in Mono. This means if you have a fancy surround system, the music would only come out of the center speaker. You can rig it up so that the same mono sound comes out of … read more.

Don’t wait Kodak EasyShare M820 8-Inch Digital Frame Problems with viewing videosI purchased the Kodak EasyShare M820 digital frame as a birthday present for my sister. I wanted to set it up with a few family pictures, a couple of short videos, and add background music to the slide show before I give it to her. After reading the manual several times and calling the Kodak technical support for help three or four times, I was only able to achieve one of my three objectives. I think the instruction manual lacks some vital information about the steps that should be followed to perform different tasks. I was able to create a slide show after one phone call to the technical support. However, installing a 20-second video was … read more.
