Marriage: Learning from Couples in Scripture (Fisherman Bible Studyguides) Be sure to look inside the book first – Thomas G. Richey – Jackson, TN
I made the big mistake of only looking at the table of contents instead of looking inside the actual chapters of the book. I am preparing to do a lesson for a Bible class, and I was looking for some books with good commentaries on these Biblical couples. This book did not do that. It gives you a very brief overview, and then goes into the lesson questions. This is fine if you are in a group study and you can share answers to the questions. But if you are looking for a deep study on these couples, this is not the book. On the up side, the price was great, and I might go back and complete the self study later.

All of the FISHERMAN study books are great for group studies, and this one, MARRIAGE: LEARNING FROM COUPLES IN SCRIPTURE is no exception. I personally wish these books went into more detail on Biblical Doctrine on the subjects they cover, but I believe the purposful omission of such detail is to encourage a maximum amount of group input. This is a process the author’s refer to as “inductive” study, which promotes study member research.

These are all well written and each section includes provocative questions on the subject matter that will stimulate group participation. : Readers will explore the stories of couples in the Bible that are amazingly similar to the experiences couples face today, and deepen the spiritual dimension of their life together. Dan Allender, so nothing against the book. It was helpful for me individually, but it turns out what I really needed was to get rid of my husband. Did that and I’m great now! Hopefully I can take some of the insights and apply it to future relationships and be more successful.
We have worked through two books in our small group in this series: The Goal of Marriage and Forgiveness. Each chapter in the series is lead by scripture, has a very short related DVD vignette and a number of questions related to the main topic. The only complaint we’ve encountered by the six couples in our group is that the DVD segments for each chapter are to short. Otherwise they universally have loved studying the series as it is both challenging and teaches use how to love our spouse more deeply, and love God together : What is marriage for?How does God answer that question?Dan B.
