Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)

Having issues with HDMI board here also. Its crazy because i’ve never had a problem up until about a month ago, and i purchased this item Dec 2008. All of a sudden my PS3 went out. I plugged it into the TV’s HDMI port and it was still working. Recently I bought an HTPC and it loads the bootup screen, and even safe mode, but as soon as it tries to load Windows into 1920×1080, “No Signal”. I also just purchased a blu-ray player. Loaded it up, switched signal to 1080p, “No Signal” again. I can confirm this works directly through the HDTV.

Luckily i’m still under warranty and will be giving them a call today about the issue. Hopefully these problems won’t happen again.

Onkyo TX-SR702 – AV receiver – 7.1 channel

Onkyo TX-SR702 – AV receiver – 7.1 channel Great receiver until it failed – carlivar – Burbank, CA USA
This was the heart of my audio-video system for two or three years and I was very happy with it when it was working. Unfortunately one day it simply stopped outputting sound. No power surge, no abuse, didn’t even touch it — it just failed. It still powers on, but won’t give me any sound. Not even with headphones.

From a bit of web searching it looks like this is a common problem. I don’t know about all of Onkyo but this receiver model is certainly not reliable. Not recommended.

I absolutely love this receiver!! Has amazing sound and everything that I need for a reasonable price. With 7 digital audio inputs and 2 digital outputs, you shouldn’t have to worry about having enough hookup spots like on many cheaper receivers or those from a year or two ago. ALso has 3 compnent inputs and 1 output for your DVD or HDTV hookup. A great feature is the video upconversion. This allows you to plug in a yellow video cord from your VCR (or anything else), and upconvert the signal into a compnent output for better quality. It isn’t as good as if it were a direct compnent output but it looks better than a standard yellow video cable would. The THX certification shows that the sound quality is fantastic. I would definately recommend this receiver. The only thing that I don’t like is that it takes a few seconds to play sound from a DVD when you first switch to DVD mode, other than that this is close to a perfect unit!!

Awesome. Worth much more than I paid. Delivers great 5.1 sound (next step is to get two more speakers so I can go 7.1). I’m hearing lots of new things in old DVDs and CDs. Love the special effects.

I purchased this receiver to pair with Polk 6750 5.1 Surround Speakers. I passed by the Harmon Kardon CP-45 at Fry’s for 0 (an absolutely amazing price for everything you get in the deal-AVR245, HDMI DVD player, 5.1 speakers, but it was a display item…). The main reason I opted for the Onkyo is the higher power (90 watts/channel) and because it will process sound and video through the HDMI inputs (not just serving as a video pass-through). Also, switching between input sources is as easy as pressing a single button on the front **important for those whose wives (or husbands) like to use the system but may be discouraged by pressing a sequence of buttons**. The sound is clear, powerful, and the receiver is very easy to set up. I am sure this will last me for years.

One of the receiver’s strengths is the dual-zone feature, which allows a source other than what is being played in the main room to be played in a second room. The one drawback here is that, while the receiver is 7.1, it will only play 5.1 in the main zone while using the second zone. This shouldn’t be a big problem for most installations (if you’re using 7.1, it is likely that everyone in the house in the main room), but I know some people would like to have the option to play 7.1 and listen to a second source.

The inputs are generous as expected for an Onkyo receiver… nothing is missing there. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. Amazon has a great price on a non-refurbished model. Get it while you can.

This puppy rocks! I love the choices in sound, from jazz to Dolby THX…this unit kicks. I rock with everything from Scissor Sisters to Pink Floyd to Pinetop Perkins. The only thing I dont like is when I change tone or equalizer settings I can see the picture on the screen of what I’m viewing or hear the changes as they are taking effect.

Had this unit almost 3 years. It gets daily use from 8-16 hours a day and no problems. The remote is lit and easy to use for me and my son. My wife, well she has trouble with the blender, what can I say!

I’ve paired this with a Samsung 42″ Plasma, a harmon kardon DVD48 SACD player, a Techniques CD changer circa 1995!? a belden circuit protector, HSU 175 watt rms sub-woofer and a set of SWANN speakers, towers, center and surrounds. I’m lovin it! From Rock to blues to Jazz to Jurrasic Park this system rocks…people run in terror down my stree when I crank this puppy up, they look over the treee’s for the TREX! Just kiddin but its great receiver. I recommend it to anyone.

Really a lame unit. My 1986 Onkyo sounds better. This thing has a hum on every mode except “direct”. After 18 months a loud noise outside the house caused it “over amp” and it’s toast. In the process it killed my TV’s HDMI inputs. Manual says to take it in for repair… I’m thinking float test it in Lake Michigan. I hated it for 18 months and this just gives me an excuse to buy something of quality. But with the cost of fixing the HDMI capability for the TV, I’m thinking this POS cost me way more than just getting a quality receiver to begin with.
