Having issues with HDMI board here also. Its crazy because i’ve never had a problem up until about a month ago, and i purchased this item Dec 2008. All of a sudden my PS3 went out. I plugged it into the TV’s HDMI port and it was still working. Recently I bought an HTPC and it loads the bootup screen, and even safe mode, but as soon as it tries to load Windows into 1920×1080, “No Signal”. I also just purchased a blu-ray player. Loaded it up, switched signal to 1080p, “No Signal” again. I can confirm this works directly through the HDTV.

Luckily i’m still under warranty and will be giving them a call today about the issue. Hopefully these problems won’t happen again.

This puppy rocks! I love the choices in sound, from jazz to Dolby THX…this unit kicks. I rock with everything from Scissor Sisters to Pink Floyd to Pinetop Perkins. The only thing I dont like is when I change tone or equalizer settings I can see the picture on the screen of what I’m viewing or hear the changes as they are taking effect.

Had this unit almost 3 years. It gets daily use from 8-16 hours a day and no problems. The remote is lit and easy to use for me and my son. My wife, well she has trouble with the blender, what can I say!

I’ve paired this with a Samsung 42″ Plasma, a harmon kardon DVD48 SACD player, a Techniques CD changer circa 1995!? a belden circuit protector, HSU 175 watt rms sub-woofer and a set of SWANN speakers, towers, center and surrounds. I’m lovin it! From Rock to blues to Jazz to Jurrasic Park this system rocks…people run in terror down my stree when I crank this puppy up, they look over the treee’s for the TREX! Just kiddin but its great receiver. I recommend it to anyone.

Really a lame unit. My 1986 Onkyo sounds better. This thing has a hum on every mode except “direct”. After 18 months a loud noise outside the house caused it “over amp” and it’s toast. In the process it killed my TV’s HDMI inputs. Manual says to take it in for repair… I’m thinking float test it in Lake Michigan. I hated it for 18 months and this just gives me an excuse to buy something of quality. But with the cost of fixing the HDMI capability for the TV, I’m thinking this POS cost me way more than just getting a quality receiver to begin with.

A first class product – have had it for 9 months. Sounds great and Reon Video processor does a super job – I have all content upgraded to 1080p to 60″ Pioneer Plasma. Interface is pretty easy, but takes some time with the manual to understand things. Does run hot, so needs ventilation. Looks like this is being phased out so you can get them cheap. Always had good luck with Amazon and electronic purchases.

When I bought my XBox360 and PS3 last year, I started looking for a receiver that could replace my Harmon Kardon and Silicon Image DVDO scaler, with a receiver that had HDMI. All of my research led me to this unit. For me, the multiple HDMI inputs were very important, but it also had to take multiple legacy inputs (I have a laserdisc player, for example, with a large movie collection), and process them as well. So the REON was very important to me, and it would allow my to replace the DVDO.

In practice, I think the DVDO was a bit better at scaling/de-interlacing, but the convenience provided by all the features being built into one unit make up for that.

Secondly, I have to sing the praises of the Audyssey MultiEQ. After having used other auto calibration setups before, I would rank the Audyssey as the best that I’ve tried.

I’ve had the unit for almost a year now, and have enjoyed it. I placed a 120mm 12V fan in my entertainment center, and have never had any problems with it over-heating.

I took away one star for the fairly generic remote. In the price class, I would expect something better. Other receivers I’ve had in the past included two-way RF communication, LCD displays, or other features that set them apart in some way. The remote that comes with the 876 has nothing special about it.

Onkyo TX-SR875S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver

I bought the TX-SR875S from amazon.com on 3/13/08. No problem until 10/12/09 when I found the led front display was not working. I attempted to reset per manual suggestion…unsuccessful. I called onkyo and was referred to 2 service center in Dallas. I brought the merchandise to K.O. Electronics and was told it was going to take about 4-6 weeks and that they were the only service center in Texas (inferring I have no choice). I informed him that Audio electronics also in Dallas repairs Onkyo. I called Audio Electronics and they too have 3-4 weeks waiting and that they only recently started accepting onkyo products only a few months ago. K.O. electronics blames the wait due to work back log and back order supplies. The next nearest service center is in Denver. I also found out this problem has happen to this model several times and can be fixed in a matter of hours (2-3). This product comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty. It is by far the best receiver I’ve listened to (NHT classic 7.1 speaker set up/ 60″ sony) when working. Beware when buying onkyo product because if it fails your up creek due to lack of support. I found out the hard way….lesson learned.
