Washburn Steel String Travel Acoustic Guitar (Black) CustomerReview

The long and short of it:

This little guitar was WAY better than I expected it to be. The sound is great– not too soft, not too loud. Don’t expect to be able to compete with the volume of a full-sized guitar. It doesn’t have the full bass range that you’d expect from a larger guitar, but the overall tone is quite nice. I’ve taken this thing camping and felt comfortable knowing I wasn’t annoying anyone at other campsites. I have even played quietly in my cubicle at work and no one has complained– (probably depends on how casual your workplace is.) I even took it on a plane to Mexico and it easily fit in overhead storage with plenty of room to spare for suitcases.

I still haven’t tried my own strings on it, which I suspect will improve the tone even more. The way it lays in the case makes it prone to de-tune itself (the tuners are really close to the walls of the case), but that’s my only complaint. As others have stated, the strap had a really toxic petroleum smell when I first got it but that seemed to dissipate after a couple months or so. Not sure what that’s all about, but it’s easily remedied with your own strap–or just waiting it out. The case itself is really nice– I felt like I was getting a real deal by them including it.

Not too easy to play without the strap due to the light body/heavier neck. However, the full-sized neck makes this guitar superior to some of the other ‘backpacking’ guitars out there. I’m glad this guitar has standard tuning, especially if someone else wants to play along.

I can’t tell you how many people try my Washburn Rover out only to finally hand it back to me and say something like, “man, I should really pick one of these up… how much did you pay for it again?…”

My son got this guitar for Christmas and loves it. Ih has great sound and it is just the right size to take to parties, the beach, and to school. Unfortunately, the zipper broke on the case the first time he used it. It looked like it zipped, but the zipper pulled apart and the guitar fell on the floor when he picked it up. Amazon issued a full refund, and my son ordered another hoping the zipper problem was an isolated incident. Will let you know how it goes with the second.

I love this guitar.

It is a made in the U.S. guitar heavily discounted likely on account of the finish. The body has a satin finish rather than lacquer. This has no influence on tone which is vintage classic Tele. Consider that Fender is now selling fake worn guitars. These sound great but look ugly.

The pickups are vastly superior to those on the Mexican made Standard Telecaster. They are still passive single coil pickups which require amplifiers to be boosted for gain and volume. Unlike real vintage Telecasters, there is no hum coming from the pickups.

The tone and volume controls work perfectly as does the pickup selector. The maple neck is a delight to play on and it contributes to the “snap” associated with the Telecaster guitar.

This Tele is balanced perfectly for sitting or standing positions. I never tire of playing this instrument.

Terrible condition, the strings were so bad my tuner could not recognize them, the guitar itself had a terrible paint job, the strings were garbage, the overall construction was weak at best, it came with a broken string, it is too small and feels like a toy, if you are someone who knows anything about guitars at all DO NOT BUY THIS GUITAR. if you have a five year old kid who needs a toy to throw around however this is the TOY you want, because it surely cannot be called a musical instrument

Haven’t had a chance to tune it yet. A friend is going to do it for us. Hopefully he can after all the reviews I read saying it couldn’t be tuned. My 12 year old is anxious to try it out. This is just a starter guitar to see if she’ll really be committed to playing it.

3/4 Size Amigo Guitar for Kids or Children CustomerReview

I bought this guitar for one of my students…didn’t expect anything much as it wasn’t a Robelli, Ibanez or even a Yamaha Classical…but boy! for the price and for the child beginner, it’s perfect!!

It’s economical enough not to worry if the kid tends to knock it up a few times (and even then, the guitar still manages to look good, no cosmetic surgery needed), but even if the kid is serious about his sessions, the volume and tone is very very good…

A child student can superbly play on the Amigo ¾ size from childhood into his adolescent years without sacrificing posture…heck even I played it a few times, ran some solos, and I felt very comfortable!!

The only thing I noticed was that passing the 12th fret, the tuning goes a little FLAT, but that’s nothing major I guess, because in my opinion these sizes are built for beginners anyway, and from the time I have them fingerpicking and soloing beyond the 15th fret, they will be NEAR ADULTS and need to but a full-size guitar then anyway!! But of course if they choose to stay playing folk guitar and strumming chords, then they can very well use the Amigo ¾ for life!

So for cost-effectiveness, durability and playability for the target market, despite the one con, I STILL GIVE THE GUITAR 5 STARS!!

I bought this guitar for my daughter 4 years ago. Her guitar teacher recommended it as a good beginning guitar. The price on Amazon was much better than in the music store. My daughter used this for 3 years before she outgrew it size wise.

The finish and construction are quite good; the guitar is attractive. The tone is pretty good, and it has good volume. However, I don’t think much of it as a musical instrument, because it is difficult to tune, and it fails to hold its tuning very well. The difficulty with tuning is this: when you start with any string and progress through the other strings, by the time you are done the first string is out of tune significantly. You end up cycling through the six strings repeatedly until the process converges – almost. And then if you want to play it the next day, you go through it all again. I think that the neck is just not stiff enough to resist the tension on the strings properly.

This guitar is ok for the price paid. The sound is not very good but you can’t expect more for this money. The construction is solid, the tunning mechanism a little hard. I bought it for my 7 year old son, I wanted something cheap for him to start playing, to see if he really likes playing guitar (my own guitar is a full size, very big for his hands). If he starts learning and shows me interest, I’ll buy him another one more expensive, I don’t recomend this one for a serious learner. My only complain is that this guitar has no a finish coat, is a little rough at the touch and I think it’ll be affected by humidity.
