Love Valour Compassion [VHS] Love, Valour, Compassion. – Richard D. Trimmer – PLANO, TEXAS, US
Great examination of friendships and loves among a group of gay men. They are more a family unit than just friends. Great script and some wonderfully wry performances.
: The premise sounds great but the promise is never fulfilled. Terrence McNally’s Tony Award-winning hit about a cluster of gay male friends who gather several times one summer at a Victorian house on the bank of a rural lake never quite measures up (at least on film) as anything particularly profound. The story traces a history of infighting and changing relationships within the group, with the shock of AIDS slowly pushing everyone toward greater closeness and honesty. But instead of making an impact, so much of the film is trivial: dinner conversations are banal, tantrums are tedious, genitals are a little too overexposed. The two best and most familiar actors in the piece, Jason Alexander and John Glover, ironically play the most cliché-ridden characters. Still, Glover–who portrays British twin brothers who could not be more different from one another–is a very good reason to see this film. –Tom Keogh

Halloween 5 – The Revenge of Michael Myers [VHS]
Halloween 5 – The Revenge of Michael Myers [VHS] : Starting around Halloween 4, that masked nut Michael Myers stopped chasing his sister (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the first and second films, as well as Halloween H20) and went after his niece. Now he’s chasing her around again in part 5, but it’s a lot of other people who die in the process. Donald Pleasence continues his mad-doctor bit from the earlier movies, Danielle Harris is the unfortunate relation, and Donald L. Shanks plays the monster. The film is an improvement on parts 2 and 4 (part 3 having nothing to do with Michael Myers), but it still amounts to routine slaughter with none of John Carpenter’s stylistic brilliance from the original movie. –Tom Keogh

Say Anything
Say Anything A simple classic – missus jones – new york
This is one of my families favorite movies from the 80′s, simply because it doesn’t TRY so hard, it just IS.
What it is is wonderful and caring and funny and surprising, but not in a super cute way, not at all, it’s effortless. The writing and the acting are all wonderful, especially John Cusack and Ione Skye as the two young people falling in love. There are lots of funny cameos from Jeremy Piven to John Mahoney to Eric Stoltz and so on. As far as I’m concerned this is the best Cameron Crowe movie out there. Yes, Jerry Maguire was very good, but Say Anything has a heart and is quite touching in ways that movie strains for.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Packaging: Sleeve Seven years after he earned his first screen credit as the writer of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, former Rolling Stone writer Cameron Crowe made his directorial debut with this acclaimed romantic comedy starring John Cusack and Ione Skye as unlikely lovers on the cusp of adulthood. The casting is perfect, and Crowe’s rookie direction is appropriately unobtrusive, no doubt influenced by his actor-loving, Oscar®-winning mentor, James L. Brooks. But the real strength of Crowe’s work is his exceptional writing, his timely grasp of contemporary rhythms and language (he’s frequently called “the voice of a generation”), and the rich humor and depth of his fully developed characters. In Say Anything… Cusack and Skye play recent high school graduates enjoying one final summer before leaping into a lifetime of adult responsibilities. Lloyd (Cusack) is an aspiring kickboxer with no definite plans; Diane (Skye) is a valedictorian with intentions to further her education in Europe. Together they find unlikely bliss, but there’s also turbulence when Diane’s father (John Mahoney)–who only wants what’s best for his daughter–is charged with fraud and tax evasion. Favoring strong performances over obtrusive visual style, Crowe focuses on his unique characters and the ambitions and fears that define them; the movie’s a treasure trove of quiet, often humorous revelations of personality. Lili Taylor and Eric Stoltz score high marks for memorable supporting roles, and Cusack’s own sister Joan is perfect in scenes with her onscreen and offscreen brother. A rare romantic comedy that’s as funny as it is dramatically honest, Say Anything… marked the arrival of a gifted writer-director who followed up with the underrated Singles before scoring his first box-office smash with Jerry Maguire. –Jeff Shannon

Halloween 5 – The Revenge of Michael Myers (Widescreen Edition) [VHS] “Good But Could’ve Been Better!” – Gregorypwilson – Syracuse, NY USA
Donald Pleasence and Danielle Harris star in this 1989 horror sequel.
Killer, Michael Myers tries to finish what he started last year.
This sequel is good, but could’ve been better. I do like the
intro of the film and this dvd has nice picture and sound
plus neat extras. I still recommend this for your horror
collection.

Great examination of friendships and loves among a group of gay men. They are more a family unit than just friends. Great script and some wonderfully wry performances.
Warner Brothers: “Love!” follows eight gay men, longtime friends, who spend three summer holiday weekends together at a beach house. The premise sounds great but the promise is never fulfilled. Ethical Conflict Resolution
Conflicts are inevitable, but the more we know about human nature, the more positive the outcome of a conflict might be for both parties. We know that different people have different priorities and different ways of dealing with situations that may occur, but in general, human beings have certain characteristics that are very similar – even across gender, racial, and socio-economic lines.
· People love to be agreed with.
· People hate to be disagreed with.
· People like other people who agree with them.
· People dislike other people who disagree with them.
· People who are good at resolving conflicts look for some point of agreement and use good people skills to get others to see a different point of view.
So if we know that when we disagree with people, we are likely to raise resentment, it might be a good idea to strengthen our soft-skills – our people skills – when dealing with conflicts or potential conflicts. If we find ourselves in a tense situation, and we raise our voice, the other party is likely to respond in kind. This will usually escalate the situation quickly. Instead, below are SEVEN tips for avoiding and ultimately resolving conflicts.
1. Be proactive instead of reactive. Good plans shape good decisions. That’s why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true. -Lester R. Bittel
2. Be slow to anger–especially over petty issues. Anger is always more harmful than the insult that caused it. -Chinese Proverb
3. Instead of telling people they are wrong, point out mistakes indirectly. A person convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. -Samuel Butler
4. Look for some type of common ground as soon as possible. A compromise is the art of dividing a cake in such a way that everyone believes he has the biggest piece. -Ludwig Erhard
5. If you find that you are in the wrong, admit it. It’s easier to eat crow while it is still warm. -Dan Heist
6. Admit one of your own poor decisions before pointing out a similar error by others. A man should never be ashamed to own he has been in the wrong, which is but saying… that he is wiser today than he was yesterday. -Alexander Pope, from Miscellanies by Jonathan Swift
7. Mend fences whenever possible. Never does the human soul appear so strong as when it forgoes revenge, and dares forgive an injury. -E.H. Chapin
