Alt-Az systems like Dobsonian telescopes may be moved in azimuth (horizontally) and in altitude (vertically) axis. It is important to get a smooth movement in both axis. This way you may easily follow a star or a planet inside the field of view. Here we test the smoothness of these movements. Music by myself, in order to avoid copyright problems. Hint: Add “&fmt=18″ (without quotes) at the end of the URL in Youtube to see this video at the best quality. This high quality equipment is a Dobson Reflector of 406mm in diameter and 1829mm of focal length. Have a look at my astrophotography pictures here: www.awesky.com

An Introduction to Meade and Celestron Telescopes
Are you simply a fanatic of the clear night sky and want to take your astronomy knowledge even further than Galileo did? All you need is a 20/20 vision and a clear and reliable astronomy telescope to give your astronomical adventure an outstanding start.
Two of the leading names in the industry that manufacture world class astronomy telescopes are the Meade and Celestron Telescopes. Along with top manufacturers of these great star-gazing aides, Meade and Celestron have been consistently delivering clear and outstanding learning avenues to better explore our vast and mysterious universe.
Meade Telescopes are composed of a number of series of high technology telescopes such as the Meade DS-2000, Meade ETX, Meade ETX-PE, Meade ETX-LS, Meade Light Bridge, Meade LX200-ACF, Meade LX200-ACF Advanced, Meade LXD75, and a lot more that are guaranteed to deliver you a clear and unparalleled level of universal tour in the clear night sky.
Most of Meade‘s astronomy devices are equipped with an on-board computer which automatically serves as your astronomy professor, properly guiding you to successfully gaze at planets like Jupiter and Saturn, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and more. These telescopes from Meade give careful consideration on little things and elements such as premium-grade optical glass, high transmission optical coatings, over sized primary mirrors, and small engineering tolerances that make up its distinct difference in clarity, resolution, and contrast. If you seem to have some doubt on the performance of small or medium sized telescopes, Meade has a variety of big telescopes that can be used anywhere. Though huge in size, these telescopes offer ultra portability and high quality optics at about the same price as other Meade Classic Telescopes.
The Celestron Telescopes on the other hand are perfect for both the novice and considerably advanced astronomers, with a wide selection of series of reliable telescopes such as the Celestron SkyScout Scope 90, Celestron Advanced Telescope Series, Celestron AstroMaster, Celestron CGE, Celestron CPC, Celestron NexStar SE, and more.
Celestron Telescopes are easy to use and maintain as they are nearly maintenance free but with high precision optics. Celestron also has a series of telescopes that are perfect for both celestial and terrestrial viewings. Celestron also has computerized types that are programmed to be fully knowledgeable of the entire universe. If you are one of those who have been wanting to catch orbiting satellites on the telescope, Celestron has telescopes that are equipped with GPS receivers that help you find the exact location of the said satellites on Earth. Celestron also features those types that are inspired with the classic orange tubular look of the original ones with 21st century technology such as superior coatings, fully computerized operating system, flash upgradable hand control, and more.
For beginners and experts of astronomy, Meade and Celestron are one of the leading names to consider for reliable and high quality telescopes to better aid us in exploring the vast universe. You also won’t have to worry that you might spend on something you won’t be able to know how to use as these great star-gazing aides are perfectly designed for all types of users.

Meade 16 Telescope back on line
After 2 1/2 months with a broken telescope, the Cape Cod Astronomical Society has gotten back the 16″ Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope under warranty from Meade Corporation. This short shows the Cape Cod Astronomical Society team remounting the telscope and firing it up for the first time after reinstalling.
Crescent Moon through Meade Lightbridge 16″
The atmospheric conditions were not very good to take this video, because that was a windy night. Nevertheless here we can see a high definition video sequence of the crescent Moon as seen through a big Dobsonian reflector telescope. Several maria are visible: Crisium, Tranquilitatis, Serenitatis, Nectaris and also some important craters. Best frames show small craters up to 5 kilometers in diameter. Three Types of Telescopes – What are the Advantages
Refractors, Newtonian reflectors and Catadioptrics
are the three main types of telescopes. All these
different types have the same purpose, but each
telescope design does it differently. Collecting
light and bringing it to point of focus so it can be
magnified and examined with an eyepiece is their
goal.
Of the different types of telescopes the refractor
is the telescope most people think of when they
think of astronomy. This type of astronomy telescope
is easy to use and reliable due to the simplicity
of design. It requires little or no maintenance. Its
great for looking at the different types of lunar,
planetary, and binary stars.
Newtonians are a type of telescope, which is also
known as catoptrics. This type is different from
the other telescopes because it has the lowest
per inch of aperture compared to refractors and
Catadioptrics, because lenses are more expensive
to produce than mirrors, especially in medium
to large apertures. Newtonians deliver very bright
images and are low in optical aberrations.
Catadoptric telescopes are the most popular type
of instrument, with the most modern design,
marketed throughout the world in 3 1/2 and larger
apertures. Its very good for looking at different
planetary, lunar, and binary stars. If you like to
take photos with your telescope this type of
instrument is excellent for deep sky observing
or astrophotography with fast films or CCD’s.

A World Of Telescopes
Trying to find an ideal telescope for your home can be a troublesome task. It is not the shear number of telescopes available, but that not that many places specialize in telescopes to use for viewing objects in space.
A telescope is a scientific instrument, and as such it is not something that is as easy as finding cutlery! Though it is still possible to find a good telescope for your home, it will require some research. You may even be lucky enough to have a specialist telescope seller near to where you live.
If you do not have access to a specialist telescope store, then all is not lost, as online there are many specialist telescope sellers, dedicated to the amateur astronomy, and the semi pro astronomer alike.
Why Not Buy A Telescope For $100 Or Less From A Local Toy Store?
For many people into astronomy, there first telescope indeed was a toy store purchased telescope, which retailed for $100 or less. Most people, who have done astronomy for years, will tell you not to buy a cheap telescope, like those in the toy store. The reason for this negative enthusiasm is that these cheap telescopes have made more people leave astronomy, than they would have if they had a good telescope from the beginning.
Life is a learning experience, and if you can not afford an expensive telescope, then these cheap telescopes can help you get some enjoyment out of the universe. They are great for viewing local objects in our solar system, like our Moon and Saturn, Jupiter, and for terrestrial viewing. So if you simply want to see whether you like astronomy or not, then these cheap telescopes can be of value. Just remember that there is much more to the universe, than what these cheap telescopes show.
What Telescope To Buy
When buying a telescope, you will encounter mainly one of two instruments. One is a reflector and the other is a refractor. One type of telescope uses a mirror to reflect light, whereas the other is similar to a binoculars, but with one lens. The process of how they work does not need to really be delved into, as they both do similar jobs, and that is to let you see the beauty of the universe!
There are many brands that you will find for telescopes; however, the best of brands that I have seen and recommend is Meade telescopes, Orion telescopes, Celestron telescopes. These telescope brands are really the best out there for amateur viewing. They are proven scientific instruments, used by first time telescope users and seasoned astronomers alike. And what is more, they are created by people who love astronomy.
When looking for a telescope, there are many different models you will find. For your first telescope, I suggest you look for a small telescope from the brands listed. The optics is great, and you will not have to invest too much, to start enjoying the hobby of astronomy.
There are many telescope reviews online, and each can help you a bit more to find the telescope you need to kick start your astronomy hobby. With so much helpful information online, and the help you can receive from online astronomy stores, finding a good telescope for your home is so much easier today.
