Kanchanaburi is located 130 km west of Bangkok, at the intersection of 2 rivers that converge into the Mae Klong River. It is a popular tourist destination, although not a premier one. Maybe it should be, given the attractions and scenery it offers visitors. Its location at the edge of a mountain range also keeps it cooler than nearby provinces.

A visit here should be a must for nature lovers with its easily accessible waterfalls and national parks. Excursions can be combined with an overnight stay at a riverside hotel, built on floating rafts at the river’s edge.

The area’s claim to fame, of course, is the Bridge over the River Kwai, immortalized in the film of the same name. The Japanese brought the bridge from Java and it formed part of what became known as the Death Railway linking Thailand with Burma. Bombed by the Allies, the bridge was rebuilt after the war using the original curved spans of the bridge.

The area was under Japanese control in 1942 and used Allied prisoners of war and Asian laborers to build the famous 415 km railway in hellish conditions. Most of the Allied prisoners were Australians, Dutch and British and more than half of them died from disease such as malaria, maltreatment and accidents. After the war, nearly 7,000 soldiers were reburied at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, where they still bear witness to a brutal and tragic ordeal.

The Hellfire Pass was reclaimed from the jungle as late as 1980s, funded as a memorial by the Australian Government. You can go on a self-guided walking tour that takes you on a descent through the jungle down to the Pass which was cut and blasted through rock by hand.

The railway itself was disbanded but you can still enjoy a train ride from Kanchanaburi to Name Tok railway station, a ride which crosses the famous bridge.

Recommended activities include boat rides on the river, swimming in pools near the attractive waterfalls and relaxing with exotic Thai food and fruits at one of the riverside hotels. During the day, some of the following excursions are recommended.

The Thailand-Burma Railway Museum and the JEATH War Museum

Both are dedicated to the Bridge, the Death Railway and the soldiers who perished. The JEATH (Japan, England, Australia, Thailand and Holland) museum is built in the form of an Allied Prisoner of War camp and is managed by a Thai monk.

The Thai Burmese Railway Centre

This museum is dedicated to the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway.

Kan Kao National Museum

This national museum is located 35 km from Kanchanaburi overlooking the Kwai Noi River. The museum was constructed beside a Neolithic burial site discovered by an Allied Prisoner Of War during the construction of the Death Railway. About 4,000 years ago Neolithic man lived, roamed and hunted here, sheltering beneath rock overhangs or in nearby caves. The museum houses skeleton remains, pots, axe heads, jewellery made from animal bones and other artifacts dating from that time.

Elephant’s World

This is an elephant conservation camp that takes care of aged elephants established in 2008. The founder aims to give the elephants a place where they can enjoy their last days without having to work. The conservation camp is located in a beautiful spot next to the river and close to the Nichigo Golf Club about 30 km away from Kanchanaburi town.

Parking Lot Maintenance and Liabilities

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Safety is a key priority when designing or retrofitting a parking lot for a business, residence or public establishment. Clearly visible and easily understood signage is important, but many properties fall short in meeting these basic criteria. Some property managers are facing liability that they could have avoided, particularly in Ontario where new Regulations came into force in 2007 to dictate parking space size, driveway clearance and many other considerations. Pavement markings, traffic control and accessibility are three main areas where parking lots can be deficient.

PAVEMENT MARKINGS

Line markings are paramount for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.  Walkways for pedestrians should be clearly marked with diagonal striping known as hatching so that drivers of approaching vehicles are aware and can yield within a safe distance.  Further hatching can be used to mark off hazards and obstructions that may pose risks to drivers and the structure of a building.  Keeping line paint fresh and clean from debris is important and highly recommended.  The minimum acceptable 2 way aisle width is six meters. Parking space widths and clearance requirements can vary depending on the location of possible obstructions such as walls, poles etc. Inadequate laneway access for emergency vehicles can result in large fines. Fire truck access lanes must be clearly marked and wide enough to accommodate emergency vehicles. Signs should indicate that parking is prohibited in the lanes, and the lanes must allow enough clearance for traffic to move through.  Signage and markings should be as similar as possible to the public roadway so that drivers understand what is required of them. The location of the sign can be critical to preventing accidents and mishaps.  Easily visible and understandable signs will help prevent or minimize liability issues.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

High volume traffic and high volume parking lots generally have issues pertaining to speed.  Large arrows on the pavement or on walls of underground garages can help control speed and direct traffic movement.  Rubber or plastic speed bumps can be installed with bright, reflective colours for optimal visibility. These speed bumps will help slow vehicles in parking lots that have high pedestrian traffic and effectively minimize personal injuries or vehicle damage due to pedestrian vehicle contact. In addition to calming traffic, there are also speed bumps designed specifically for sheltering temporary power cables or water hoses from traffic.  Installing rubber curbs in the place of concrete curbs can be an extra step to ensure the safety of parking facilities.  These sturdy, durable rubber curbs are bright and reflective for optimal visibility and sit lower to the ground to prevent bumper contact, thus stopping the wheels before contact can occur with a wall or sidewalk. They do not chip, crack or require paint like traditional concrete curbs and are secured in place with heavy-duty rebar spikes.

ACCESSIBILITY

It is mandatory that most parking facilities be equipped to accommodate people with special needs.  According to the Ministry of Community and Social Services, one in every seven people living in Ontario has a disability. As that number grows, the requirements for the number of handicapped parking stalls and the guidelines for the proximity to buildings will inevitably become more stringent.  Failure to meet these guidelines may result in fines and penalties.  The width of handicapped parking stalls must be increased to meet new regulations, and most properties are taking the extra step to ensure accessibility and safety by allotting space for a marked walkway between handicapped spaces. This proactive approach can ensure that the property is on par with current regulations, and ensure the safety of those who require additional space to manoeuvre their modified vehicles and possible support equipment.  Markings on handicapped stalls must have maximum clarity and visibility to ensure that all drivers are aware that these spaces are reserved for those with permits, and to ensure that these spaces are left vacant for those who legitimately require them.

The Canadian government allows businesses and commercial building owners to deduct costs to make renovations or alterations that enable individuals with disabilities to gain access to business or residential properties. It is the responsibility of the property owner/manager to ensure that these requirements are being met, maintained and kept up to standard.

Natural Baby Cribs

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Consider a baby’s delicateness and sensitivity. Having that in mind, infants should be reared in a hypo-allergenic and natural baby cribs that promote greater health and safety. Parents must be empowered to make sound decisions as to which crib to pick for their babies.

Careful researches have been done by crib makers so that they can deliver non-toxic, organic and securely healthy natural baby cribs for parents to choose among. Consulting an environmentalist or a doctor is vital when picking a dependable, baby-friendly and Mother Earth advocating kind of crib. Moms are responsible for their baby’s safety which all begins with buying the specific sleeping avenue their baby snoozes on.

Natural baby cribs are designed with solid maple, non-toxic finish and comfortable foam support. Usually, manufacturers provide guide kit and youth bed conversion manuals for moms to comply with in order to affirm appropriate sheltering of the baby. Mattresses for the baby are specialized with organic cotton that’s durable, fire-safe and waterproof as well.

Organic natural baby cribs are ensured to have the capacity to protect the baby from hazardous chemicals that may surround him. No compromise is placed when moms take a crib with a comfortable and organic mattress. In this manner, you are allowing not only your baby’s health to be elevated but his immune system to be strengthened as well.

Following through the baby’s surrounding, nutrition, daily responses and adaptability to natural baby cribs are all vital. Once you notice your baby seems to be weak and less responsive, you must take action. It’s nothing to be passive about. After all, babies are the most delicate and sensitive individuals. From the milk they drink to the kind of mattress they sleep on should be taken into consideration meticulously by moms and dads.

For mattresses in natural baby cribs, moms should make sure they are made of 100% organic materials like wool so that your baby’s lungs are protected and digestive systems are developing well at infancy. When your baby’s mattress does not have any torn or holed corner, then it is assured not to cause any skin allergies or breathing trouble. When shopping your crib accessories, you always go for ones that are naturally organic. Standard new crib mattresses are puffed with polyurethane and fire-proof foam which are ideal for babies.

The federal law tells that mattresses for babies have to be fire-resistant and flame-retardant. To enhance not just the look but also protectiveness of your natural baby cribs, moms might want to add on some non-toxic furniture pieces and beddings. A HEPA air purifier can also be health-suggesting to the cutest angel in the house. From conception to early years, your child’s welfare must be on top priority.

Seems Bush Adm Wanted Osama Bin Laden Alive & Free to Keep Americans Scared. Video and info continues in part 2 www.youtube.com Having Bin Laden around gives extra reasons for expansion of Neocon’s Agenda to take full control of the World. /// Russophobes in Past US Administrations are responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan and creation of Osama Bin Laden. The Bush administration claimed targeting Osama bin Laden, who it said masterminded the September 11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon (even though it has offered no concrete evidence to back up this accusation, this way so many believe it was inside job for the same neocons agenda for NWO), and Taliban which is sheltering him. But as the Economist magazine noted soon after September 11, “Anti-Russian policies of US government in Afghanistan a decade and more ago helped to create both Osama bin Laden and the fundamentalist Taliban regime that shelters him.” An examination of this history will reveal the extent to which US foreign policy is based on hypocrisy, realpolitik, and the short-term pursuit of narrow interests. Since the late 1970s Afghanistan has suffered continuous and brutal civil war between secular government in Kabul and Afghan Mujahideen (holy warriors) in the countryside. The Mujahideen belonged to various different factions, but all shared, to varying degrees, a similarly conservative Islamic ideology. As part of a Cold War strategy, in 1979, Russophobes in US saw

Still a Little Clueless About IRA Accounts?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

What’s the best IRA rollover account? Well, that depends on who you ask. It is important to choose carefully, because the IRA rollover frequency is limited by law.

If you ask a banker, the best IRA rollover account is a seven year “jumbo” certificate of deposit or “CD”. Of course, a minimum deposit of around $100,000.00 is typically required. And, while the rate of return for a jumbo CD is higher than normal (currently around 5% or so), there may be better ways to grow your retirement fund. Actually…there is no maybe…there is!

You want to choose your account carefully, because currently the allowable IRA rollover frequency is once every 12 months. If you decided to invest your funds in bank CDs, for example, and then realized there were better opportunities, you might have to wait a year before you could convert. In addition, banks charge a significant fee for cashing out a CD early.

Most advisors will tell you that the best IRA rollover account is one that allows the widest range of investment opportunities. An institution that only allows their clients to invest in the stock market, for example, is not the best choice.

Basically, the investments that you want to put in your retirement account are those that typically generate a lot of taxable income. Since, the status of the account is either tax-free or tax deferred.

That brings up another point about IRA rollover frequency. Contributions to traditional accounts are tax-deductible or made with pre-tax dollars which reduces your income, and thus your taxes, for the year. Contributions made to a Roth, on the other hand, are taxed as regular income, but qualified distributions are never taxed.

So, no matter how much the account earned, only the initial contribution would ever be taxed. A Roth may be the best IRA rollover account, if you expect to make good investments that are highly profitable. Of course, we all “plan” to do that.

Currently, taxpayers can convert from a traditional to a Roth account if they make less than $100,000.00 per year, but that max will be lifted in 2010. The Roth IRA rollover frequency is still once per year.

If you have several traditional accounts, you could convert them all. But, you will have to pay taxes on the converted amounts. You may want to limit your Roth IRA rollover frequency, yourself, simply to prevent a high tax bill. In 2010, the IRS will allow taxpayers to split the tax bill on converted amounts, paying half one year and half the next. So, you might want to wait a few years.

Many of us feel that the best IRA rollover account is a self-directed Roth invested in real estate. Real estate investments can be highly profitable and the importance of sheltering those profits from capital gains and other taxes is well understood.

If you don’t know anything about the market, there are experienced investors that can give you a hand. The success stories are numerous. If you really want the best IRA rollover account, you’ve got to at least consider real estate. It just makes good sense.

69 Places For Passion – Lusty Locations to Make Love

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When looking to spice up your love life, many couples look for adventurous or novel places to make love. There are certain locations that enable sensual love making while others demand quicker acts of passion. A bedroom is a comfortable place to make love but there are so many exciting and lusty locations to have passionate sex. Whether spontaneous and urgent or planned for fun, sex in new locations can be extremely thrilling.

Creative lovers are always on the look out for opportunities to get wild and frisky. With the right inspiration, every day sex can be transformed into an unforgettable experience. You may have seen other lovemaking location lists but let’s push the envelope and go for at least 69 — always a good number for sex ideas. Remember that for some locations, there are pleasurable sex activities other than intercourse. Oral and manual stimulation can be just as satisfying and more practical in some situations.

  1. Fooling around as passengers in a moving car (back seat while a friend drives, discreetly in a taxi, in a limousine with a privacy screen).
  2. In a parked car during a romantic or exciting event (watching fireworks, admiring a sunrise/sunset, sheltering from a thunderous rain storm).
  3. In a honeymoon suite but not during your Honeymoon. Elegant and fancy or themed for fun, recreate your honeymoon or practice what it would be like.
  4. In a seedy motel. Arrive separately and roleplay an office coworker affair or a prostitute fantasy.
  5. In a high class hotel suite with a panoramic window view — keep the curtains open if you dare.
  6. In a room with at least one hundred candles casting a soft glowing light over your naked bodies while you enjoy sensual pleasuring.
  7. Frosty fornication in a snow fort or igloo you made together is great fun. You can even fashion a special mound to mount on.
  8. On a boat in the open air (not below deck). Consider a canoe, row boat or rubber raft if you don’t have access to a yacht, sail or speed boat with a large deck.
  9. Slick with massage oil wresting on a plastic sheet or in a blowup pool.
  10. In the shower enjoying the sensual, slippery suds and a hand held water massager. Intimate bathing and bonding or hot steamy sex — what ever suits your mood.
  11. In an English garden surrounded by fragrant blossoms. Make it more fun by dressing elegantly and indulge in a sense of aristocratic debauchery.
  12. In a gazebo under the stars, moonlight or noon day sun. Semi outdoor sex as secluded as you dare.
  13. On a king size water bed fitted with satin sheets and lots of fluffy pillows.
  14. In a cool, fast moving stream or small creek. A swirling pool under a water fall is an amazing location if you can find one.
  15. On a swing strong enough for two. Actually swinging together with penetration is tricky, however there are many other fun activities you can do involving a swing.
  16. In a hammock between two palm trees on a secluded ocean front beach.
  17. In a lookout tower or observatory. Finding one that provides a scenic view and opportune privacy will be its own adventure.
  18. Rear entry on a bridge while overlooking the depth below. Even more intense on a swaying rope bridge for added adrenaline rush.
  19. In the stairwell of an apartment or office building — better exercise than taking the elevator. (or on the stairs in you own house)
  20. On the top of a large hill or small mountain under the stars or full moon. Take in the view with a bottle of wine then enjoy each other.
  21. On a train. Either in a rare, vacant car or a private cabin, “playing on the tracks” is a temptation to be tried.
  22. In a van, the back of a pickup truck or on the hood of a sports car.
  23. While skinny dipping at night in a pool, river, lake or ocean. Note that cool water tends to make some bits firmer while others shrink.
  24. In a bath, hot tub or spa. Soak, soothe and sensually stroking each other or stimulate wet and wild sex with invigorating water jets.
  25. On a roof. Outside on the flat top of tall building or (carefully) on a low, slightly sloped roof can be thrilling.
  26. In a field of tall grass or flowers. A secluded, lush green meadow next to a small stream is ideal.
  27. Under a cherry, apple or other fruit tree in full bloom. Enjoy the sensual sights, sounds and smells of Spring whenever you can.
  28. On a pile of pillows. An assortment of shapes, sizes, colors and textures all piled for pleasure. Have a playful pillow fight. Try new positions.
  29. In a barn. A horse stable may bring out the animal in you. The hayloft (on soft straw) can be extremely fun. Roleplay cowboy, stable hand or farmer’s daughter.
  30. Deep in a forest up against a large tree. Agile couples can even try various positions in the tree if the branches are just right.
  31. Outside in the refreshing, cool rain during a hot day or night. Thunder and lightning add to the thrill.
  32. Safely under a sheet metal roof during a hail storm or torrential down pour.
  33. Anywhere under the hot sun with an ice dildo. Make one by freezing a plastic water/pop bottle filled with water and cutting the plastic off.
  34. In a sleeping bag in the open air under a clear sky bright with stars. Go as far away from city lights as possible. Aurora lights will make it even more special.
  35. On a tiny island. Revel in quiet seclusion or spice it up with roleplay. Pretend to be castaways or, for a historic setting, a scout meeting a native first time.
  36. On a beach on the hot, dry sand or right on the shore with the waves lapping up around you. Anywhere you can see and hear huge crashing waves.
  37. In the middle of a sports field or stadium (golf course, soccer, football, rugby, race track, etc.). Most likely best during off season or at night.
  38. In a cave, tunnel or under a bridge. The echoes of your ecstasy or the sounds of traffic overhead can be exciting.
  39. On a trampoline or blowup bouncer. Standing intercourse while jumping may be tricky. An exercise ball will give a similar bouncy feeling for other positions.
  40. In a small clothes or coat closet with the doors closed so it is completely dark. Will someone open it and catch you in the act? Fun at parties.
  41. On a billiard table as a forfeit for losing a few games of Dirty Pool or Six Nine Ball.
  42. On a fur rug/coat in front of a warm, glowing fireplace at night.
  43. In every room of your home and your lover’s home if you live separately.
  44. Creatively on or using stable pieces of furniture. On the kitchen counter, dining table, sofa, foot stool, etc. On the floor and up against the wall too.
  45. In front of a mirror or beneath one attached to the ceiling. Get a revealing new perspective of your love making from new angles.
  46. In front of a tripod mounted video camera or webcam. Record for later, view live or stream to an internet audience if you are an exhibitionist.
  47. In a small log cabin, thatch hut, mud hut or teepee. Include the possibility when planning vacations.
  48. In a garage, boat house or storage shed. Surreptitiously meet while others are outside unaware of your naughty behavior.
  49. In a tree house or fort (either a chance discovery, your own or a neighbors). Pretend you are teenagers fooling around for the first time.
  50. Next to an open fire while camping. A roaring fire stimulates passion while softly glowing embers at night instill romance and intimacy.
  51. On or against a clothes washing machine especially during the spin cycle.
  52. At a sex club or fetish party in a private cubicle or on display for others to see.
  53. On exercise equipment at a private gym. You will definitely enjoy your workout.
  54. In a dark corner of a dance club with a pulsing, pounding beat to grind to. A skirt and no panties/underwear makes this a much easier to perform.
  55. In a parking lot between parked cars/vans. Try underground and above ground parking lots but take care for security systems and surveillance cameras.
  56. Snuggling together in a sleeping bag in a small tent. Weather conditions, wilderness sounds or scary stories can set the mood.
  57. On a designated border line between two countries, states or provinces — one person in each territory engaging in diplomatic relations.
  58. In or near a cemetery at midnight during a full moon if you dare. Standing sex will have both your legs shaking with the thrill.
  59. In a public restroom, change room or even a friends bathroom. Novelty and the risk of getting caught coming out together make this exciting.
  60. On a plush lawn at night or early morning while it is still wet with dew.
  61. In a theatre during an arousing show or to make it more interesting. Remember to bring some wet wipes to clean your fingers.
  62. In a pile of fallen leaves or freshly cut grass.
  63. In a bed covered with rose petals or lots of money.
  64. On a private patio, porch or deck (poolside even better). A sturdy lawn chair or table, air mattress or a few seat cushions may come in handy.
  65. In an elevator (late at night on a weekday might be a good time and dress for a quickie).
  66. At a costume party. Dress the part for a sexy roleplaying scenario. Flirt and play act until you can secretly meet to fulfill your fantasy.
  67. Out on a high rise apartment balcony or next to a large window near the top floor. Try standing rear entry while looking down below.
  68. In a private adult playroom stocked with a wide variety of pleasuring implements. Bondage devices, costumes, toys and other playthings will whet your desire.
  69. Inside a walk in vault (it has happened but tends to require an employee or owner to facilitate). A walk in fridge or supply room is a quick alternative.

Some lovemaking locations may actually be a little tricky, costly, too exotic or even slightly dangerous depending upon your circumstances. However, if an idea intrigues you, you can always setup a scenario and roleplay a situation in a pretend location. With a little imagination and a few props, you can create a fantasy setting to fulfill your desires. You can even recreate historical, fanciful or alien space settings.

Structures With Canopies – The Variety of Canopies For the Outdoors

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Canopy structures, usually referred to as portable storage buildings, are an economical investment in terms of sheltering and protecting a variety of items. Such shelters as carports and portable garages all fall under the category of canopies, and these are all a combination of a galvanized or powder-coated steel frame and a heavy-duty polyethylene canopy. These canopies on any shelter have been treated and are strong enough to withstand the elements, including rain and snowfall, as well as wind. The treating done to all of these outdoor canopies includes being waterproof, UV resistant, mildew, and rot resistant, as well as fire retardant according to California fire codes. While protecting your investments from the outside, one of these canopy shelters protects from the inside, as well, by being breathable enough so that mildew and dry rot don’t form on any objects in storage.

Some of the more common canopy structures are portable garages and carports. Portable garages and carports essentially have the same function: to protect your car. Aside from coming in small and large sizes, portable garages are generally designed with side walls made from polyethylene canopies, as the structure functions like a garage and not just a shelter for your car. As multiple cars, seasonal vehicles, and general items can be stored within a portable garage, the structure should be able to give all-around protection with heavy-duty polyethylene canopies.

Aside from everyday vehicles, another common use for these canopy structures is as storage for seasonal vehicles. Both RVs and boats, two of the more common seasonal vehicles, have canopies especially designed for them, with RV canopies being generally taller and longer than an ordinary portable storage building. One of these structures can protect a seasonal vehicle for several months during the winter by protecting it from the elements, including UV exposure and rain, both of which can damage the surface of one of these seasonal vehicles. The circulation of air inside prevents moisture from building up on the surface of the vehicle and causing mildew.

Aside from storage, these structures made from a steel frame and canopies have other purposes. Use one of these structures as additional storage space if your brick-and-mortar garage becomes too small, or purchase a small economy shelter and use it in place of a tool shed. If you have a garden partially filled with plants that need low light, another use for one of these structures is as a garden canopy, in which the steel frame is combined with a mesh canopy made from polypropylene. However you decided to use one of these canopies, the structure is sturdy enough to protect a variety of investments from exposure to the elements.

Sheltering Thoughts: About Loss and Grief

Worth reading! – Armchair Interviews – Minneapolis, MN
Sharon Gilchrest O’Neill has assembled a collection of thoughts, quotations, and short exercises about grieving, inspired by work with the Connecticut Hospice, Inc. Each page contains a single thought or quotation, or a chance to express the reader’s own thoughts or feelings about a particular topic. The book is divided into sections like Memories, Treasured Possessions, Happiness…Sadness, but it’s sometimes unclear how the pages in each section relate to the section topic.

What struck me most about the book was that it would offer someone mired in the chaos of grief short bursts of thought, not requiring sustained reading or focused attention. For someone looking for a narrative thread, or a unifying philosophy, this book is not the place to look. I couldn’t help but contrast it with Joan Didion’s Year of Magical Thinking, a treatise on Didion’s own process of grief, of working through the stages of feeling, thought, and emotion.

O’Neill’s book, in contrast to Didion’s treatise-like work, gives us bursts of thought, short quotations, and the chance to jot down a few of our own thoughts. About the quotations: I am often disconcerted by quotations in a book like this, where people are quoted out of context, and the reader is given nothing to put the quotation in context. Sometimes the quote is from someone familiar, like Carl Jung or Sinclair Lewis. We may not all be familiar with Jung’s or Lewis’ work, but we have something of a framework in which to place them. We can find their writings, read their novels. But, who is John Gray, and how does he relate to the experience of grief?

The writings of the author seem to be designed to provoke movement in grief, to give the grieving person a different perspective, a way to begin to think about how life has changed, and will change more.

Armchair Interviews says: For someone who needs some inspiration, a sense that they are not alone in this experience, and a way to find brief, accessible musings on grief, this book could be very helpful.
