Fun Counting and Math Games for Children
Whether you have a 2 year old who is just starting to learn numbers or a 10 year old that knows subtraction or addition, it is never too early or too late to learn about counting or math games. Children that are young benefit from games that teach them how to count objects and recognize numbers whereas older children benefit from games that help them learn how to add and subtract and build the basis for learning about algebra.
Aside from the obvious board games where you roll the dice and move your game piece a certain number of spaces, there are plenty of other counting games that you can play. Dominoes can keep kids busy for hours. I recently spent over 1 hour playing with dominoes with my two year old. We counted the numbers of dots. We counted the dominos as we stacked them or put them in or out of the container. We lined them up and counted them together. After they were all lined up, I let him push the first domino to make them all fall down.
Hide things in your house such as blocks, plastic eggs or marbles. Before you hide them, count them with your child. Then, they can go find them all. Once they have been found, they can count them again to make sure that they have all been found. Older kids can add or subtract to figure out how many they have left to find. In order to encourage sharing, have two or more children hunt the objects. At the end of the hunt, count the number in each kid’s bucket. Then work together to make sure that everyone has the same amount in their bucket.
Drop objects in a bucket or plastic containers that are lined up next to each other. Count how many objects are in each bucket. Count the number of objects that did not make it into a container. Once again, take the opportunity to incorporate addition or subtraction with older children.
Young children love learning about eyes, ears, fingers, toes, etc. Count body parts together. For instance ask, “How many eyes does Mommy have?” or “How many fingers do you have?” Count familiar household items such as pets, shoes or pots and pans.
Children also love to eat snacks, so incorporate counting with snack time. Ask “How many Cheerios do you have?” or “How many Goldfish are in the blue cup? How many are in the red cup?” Count out snacks to make sure each child has the same amount. If one child has two more Cheerios than another one, teach them to give the other child one of their’s so that they have the same amount.
Be creative in teaching your child to count. They love to count and learn, but they also want to have fun too. It is possible to incorporate both in daily activities. Lead by example and show them how you count things. You don’t want to have them counting and reciting numbers all day long, but at the same time there are so many opportunities to help them learn their numbers. Work with your children to come up with your own fun games and counting activities.

Ten New Sony PSP 3000 Bundles
Abstract for readers: PSP bundles include games packaged in for free, as opposed to just buying a PSP 3000 console on its own. Two types of PSP bundle exist – PSP console bundles and PSP games bundles, this article is of the first type PSP deals.
PSP 3000 Bundles
Just in time for Christmas, ten new Sony PSP 3000 bundles have gone on sale. Growing in popularity throughout school playgrounds, what kid doesn’t want a PSP bundle this year? Popular games consoles need to offer great games for girls too. With that, Sony PSP games makers (could it be Santa Claus?) have been busy making cute girly games to rival Nintendo’s Littelest Pet Shop and Nintendogs.
A guide to the 10 best PSP games (in console bundles)
1- Invizimals PSP Go!Cam Camera + Trap: Pokemon meets Ghostbusters. Hunt down mysterious creatures using the PSP camera and trap them. Challenge friends to duels, and join the Invizimal club for extended combat.
2- Dissidia Final Fantasy: One of the best RPG games. Dissidia’s graphics are suburb on PSP as one would expect from a Final Fantasy Game.
3 – Gran Turismo: The ultimate Playstation driving simulator.
4 – Hannah Montana “Rock Out The Show”: A Lilac PSP 3000! Star in your own Show. Go on tour, and design the stages in Hannah Montana (best one for girls)
5 – Petz PSP 300 console bundle: Petz comes with 2 PSP games, Baby Hamster and My Puppy Family.
6 – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince PSP: This one even has a magic colour: vibrant blue console and game bundled in as the title implies.
7 – Aqua Console and Little Big Planet: The classic Playstation 3 game hits Playstation Portables this year and in Aqua. Sackboy or Sackgirl if you prefer, can be likened to one big adventure full of customisations.
8 – Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines: PSP’s stealth title for older guys and girls.
9 – Need for Speed Undercover: Another playstation portable racing game.
10 – Monster Hunter: Taking Japan by storm, multi-player Monster Hunter has sparked an entirely new game genre.
PSP 3000 Slim & Lite bundles in three new colors
Radiant Red
Pearl White
Majestic Silver
The new PSP 3000 bundles are shaping up better than ever. PSP 3000′s now feature a bigger screen, a built-in microphone, and MILO communicator for online chat such as Go! Messenger and Skype. Some important advice: Don’t expect to buy Mario games on PSP consoles. Mario games are on Nintendo’s. Secondly, PSP 3000 has a UMD game port so it’s not to be confused with Sony PSPgo which doesn’t have a UMD game port. Essentially no game port means no PSP game will play on it. PSPgo uses download only games from PSN (non-transferable).

Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a fun and popular game that is adaptable to any age group, location or celebration. Variations to the classic scavenger hunt are only limited to the creator’s creativity and imagination. There are indoor hunts, outdoor hunts, internet hunts, corporate hunts, handbag hunts, video hunts, photo hunts… and NOW… glow-in-the dark hunts.
When planning your next evening scavenger hunt, consider a glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt. Here are just a few ideas to get your creativity and imagination to work.
Gather several small objects like a penny, a ruler, an apple, etc. and paint each one with glow-in-the-dark paint. Allow the items time to dry and to get plenty of exposure to light. Next, make a list, hide the items and invite your guests to find them at your designated location in a specified amount of time.
Note: There are small tubes and/or bottles of glow-in-the-dark paint available in Walmart’s craft department or at many craft stores. I’ve even found some at the dollar store on occasion. The paint hardly shows when you put it on, so test your items in a dark room before you hide them to see how they look and to be sure they’ve had enough exposure to light.
More ideas…
Paint small things like a flower, a letter, a star or any other shape on various large items around your yard or venue and have your guests try and find where these pictures are located.
Paint letters on several different objects around the yard which spell a clue or secret word that the teams have to find the letters for and unscramble.
Paint different denominations of coins and have teams collect a specified amount of money. This will add an extra dimension, since the winner won’t necessarily be the team that finds the most coins but the team that finds a total of $5.00 first (or whatever amount you choose).
If your budget allows and you don’t feel like painting, purchase numerous glow-in the-dark items (bracelets, erasers, balls, tape – available at most dollar stores, novelty stores or party stores). Make up a list, assign a point value for each item and start your hunt.
Glow-in-the-dark items can be seen everywhere, from concerts to amusement parks, flea markets to your local department store. Whether you choose to use one of these ideas or make up one of your own, know that glow-in-the-dark paint and accessories are always a fun party addition.
Interested in taking this party idea a step further? Have glow-in-the-dark makeup available for your guests to paint their hands and faces. It’s fun to see everyone glowing as they’re searching for hidden items in the dark .
Remember… Play safe! Have Fun! Try something new!

Japanese Glossary For Image Board Users
Image boards have become a popular web pastime in recent years. If you’ve been to places like 4chan, 7chan, and the like, you’ve seen a unique culture that mixes illustrated and photographic art from both Western and Japanese culture. After you browse these places for awhile, it starts to become apparent that Japanese and English are mixed together so much, you need a foot in each culture to understand what’s going on.
So here’s a guide to the most common Japanese words you’ll find in the world of image boards. Keep in mind that these places are inhabited mostly by anime, manga, and video game fans, so most of the terms have to do with this culture.
anime – Japanese animation. All animated cartoons originating in Japan.
baka – A fool, or art representing foolishness. Disney’s character Goofy would be considered baka.
bancho – A delinquent or rebellious boy.
bara – A gay man, or art appealing to or depicting gay men.
bishojo – A beautiful young woman, older than adolescence but younger than university age.
bukkake – A fetish for messy sex, and art depicting this fetish.
burikko – An adult pretending to be a child. Features in art depicting age-play.
-chan – A suffix meaning “relating to;” also a Japanese honorific.
chibi – A short, small person or a very young child. Also a specific anime/manga drawing style, making a character appear dwarfish or distorted. Western cartoon elves might be considered chibi.
cosplay – The activity of dressing up as a favorite character from anime/mange. Frequently done at comic book conventions and other fan events.
desu – A short Japanese word that links a noun and verb, literally translated as “it is.” Image boards have taken this as a meme, often repeating “desu desu desu,” for various reasons, including to tease the newbies or stubbornly persist in an argument.
doujinshi – Self-published work. The equivalent of desktop self-publishing for manga.
ecchi – The generic term for sexual material.
futanari – Hermaphrodites, or art depicting hermaphrodites. Half-male-half-female.
gaiden – Side or supplemental material. In image boards, gaiden would be some four-panel cartoons of manga characters, depicting events that don’t count in the manga itself. A side-story or spin-off.
guro – Very gross pornography depicting extreme injuries, mutilation, or death. The manga equivalent of “snuff porn.”
hentai – Erotic bondage manga. Most erotic Japanese illustrative material falls into this category.
hikikomori – An otaku taken to the next level: a loner and outsider whose only interest is anime/manga fandom. The equivalent of a Western “basement geek,” only suggesting a neurotic, unhealthy degree of both obsession and isolation.
itasha – The subculture of decorating a vehicle with decals of manga/anime characters.
josei – A manga genre appealing to adult women. The equivalent of Western soap-operas.
kaitou – A mysterious. elusive thief. Also someone with phantom-like aspects. A stealthy person who lives in the shadows. The equivalent of Western rogue or hobbit.
katana – A Japanese sword. About 99% of the time when you see ninjas and samurai with swords, they’re shown wielding katanas.
kawaii – Meeting the Japanese standard for “cute.”
kawaiiko – A cute child.
kei – Originally a sculpture style used to depict Buddha. As opposed to the more familiar (to the West) vision of Buddha as a jolly, laughing fellow, Japanese Buddhas are slim and serious.
lolicon – A slang term shared between Japanese and Western culture, for the preference for child-like depictions of women.
manga – Japanese comic books. All graphic, printed media of a cartoon nature originating in Japan.
mangaka – A manga creator. Japanese for “cartoonist.”
manzai – A style of humor involving a comedic duo of one “straight man” and one “funny man.” In Western culture, Abbot and Costello would be considered manzai.

miko – A female temple attendant. The equivalent to a Western nun.

shibari – Japanese bondage, involving rope bondage raised to an intricate and specialized art form.
shinigami – A Japanese angel of death, in mythology. The equivalent of the Western “grim reaper,” although shinigami are a whole class of entities and not just one.
shojo – A manga genre appealing to young women and girls. The younger equivalent of josei.
shonen – A manga genre appealing to young men and boys. Usually action and adventure stories.
shotacon – The Japanese version of “boy’s love,” the depiction of young boys in an erotic context. The male version of lolicon.
sukeban – A delinquent or rebellious girl.
tan – A suffix meaning a character used as a mascot for a product. For instance, characters used to represent different computer operating systems are “OS-tans.”
tsundere – A female who is by turns aggressive and aloof, and sweet and charming.

Bakugan Games – What Every Parent Needs to Know
This Christmas you may well find that your child has included the Bakugan game on their wish list. Certainly not just in the US and Canada but across the globe this has become one of the top selling toys for 2008. The game itself is based on the anime series shown on children’s channels such as Cartoon Network and comes from Japan.
The game of Bakugan is similar in concept to that of Pokemon. However, it doesn’t solely rely on them playing just with cards there are also special marbles needed that house the Bakugan creatures inside. Also unlike the Pokemon games where children need to play with each other this one allows a child to play on their own if they wish.
When you are looking to buy such a gift for your child there are several different items that you can purchase for them. Along with the Bakugan starter packs that come in a variety of different colors and which contain three Bakugan marbles and three character cards, there are also the battle packs, booster packs, bakugan arena and launcher to consider as well. Although the launcher and arena are great items to have they aren’t essential for the child to be able to play this game.
The cards that are contained within each pack represent various of the characters that are seen on the show. To play the game one lays the cards out on a flat surface (a table will suffice) and then they roll the marbles containing the characters across them. If the card lands on an appropriate card it will stop and the marble unlocks and transforms into a character in a certain fighting position.
However, if two marbles which are used by opposing players happen to land on the same card then a simulated battle takes place between them. It is this which then determines who has won and who has captured the card on which both players have landed. Each player has to add up the number of points on the card to the number of points that their marble has and the one with the highest score is deemed the winner.
This game has been specifically designed for children from the age of five upwards, but the younger ones may find it difficult to do the calculations. But even so they will find the game extremely enjoyable and will love it when their marble lands on the right kind of card and so exposes the character within.
As for the price of the Bakugan games compared to what you would normally pay for a computer console one these are relatively inexpensive. Also as they get more involved so a child can build up the number of Bakugan characters they have. As well as being fun to play it is helping a child improve their maths skills without some of them even realizing it.

Classic Computer Games Or a Bestseller?
What is the difference between classic computer games and best-seller computer games? Classic computer games are a matter of personal choice and taste and are unlikely to be in any list of best selling games.
Computer gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry where over two billion video game titles have been sold. Below, we examine the top five best selling video games of all time including a title that sold over 20 million copies. Some of these games may surprise you.
1. Pokemon Red Blue and Green. A role-playing game.
2. Super Mario Brothers 3. A platform arcade style game.
3. The Sims. A life simulation game.
4. Nintendogs. A pet simulation game.
5. Pokemon Gold and Silver editions.
See what I mean? Are any of these money-spinners classics to you? Not to me as I can only call to mind three video games when asked to name ones that really got under my skin. Remember the very first ´Defender´ arcade game? Where rank upon rank of alien invader marched down the screen towards your defensive position and you had to shoot them down. Bonus points were earned if you could take out the occasional mother ship that flew across the top of the screen at random intervals. I tell you nothing could beat the satisfaction of getting your tag to top spot of the all time greats list of Defender players. Only to have to do it all again time and time because you were way down the ranks next time you returned to the arcade. I wish I had dime for every game I played back then instead of giving all my dimes to games company.
My second classic computer game was a little known platform game called ´Dig Dug´. I don’t know what it was about this game that kept my work colleagues and I going back to the keyboard time after time, trying for the next level and top spot. It was a PC based platform type game. In it a stunted crocodile called Dig Dug ate its way through various scenarios, gulping down sacks of gold and avoiding getting crunched by androgynous aliens. In terms of time wasted on pointless activities though this was definitely a classic computer game in my book.
Then of course there was the first version of Halo. A testosterone fuelled, highly satisfying war game. And talking of testosterone I’ve just recalled a fourth classic computer game. How could I have forgotten Tomb Raider and the irresistible Lara Croft?
So you take my point that what makes a classic computer game is personal, is about the right time and the right place. Has lots to do with competition, good visuals and an addictive I’m not going to let this beat me hook. I’m left wondering who buys all those best sellers?

Top Rated PS3 Games: Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed is certainly one of the most impressive and exciting PS3 Games ever developed by Ubisoft. The same team, which created the outstanding and popular Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, spent two years in order to produce this visually stunning, stylish, and very original game. Assassin’s Creed offers a whole new level of gaming adventure with its awesome lifelike animation, freer movement of the characters, good graphics and sound, and other special features like you’ve never seen before in other PS3 Games.
A quick look at Assassin’s Creed might remind you of other recent and top rating PS3 Games. For, this game boasts of an incredibly controllable hero and an almost lifelike animation just like the Prince of Persia. Moreover, the game has an astounding medieval setting, a visually stunning lifelike cityscapes, and an open-ended game play that is very similar to that of Oblivion. The ps3 game also reminds us of the Thief series for its resourceful, independent, and inconspicuous hero as well as the anti-medieval-establishment background. Then, the open-ended sandbox world of Assassin’s Creed is also comparably with Grand Theft Auto. Amidst certain similarities with other games, Assassin’s Creed is still a standout with its surprising twists and it’s creative and beautifully designed visual style. All these features add to the uniqueness of the game.
“Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.” And so goes the creed of the assassin. These words suggest that anything is possible during the entire game. This exciting and action-packed adventure is set in the late 12th century during the Third Crusade under the leadership of Richard Lionheart. Here, you play as Altair, the fearless and powerful assassin armed with a sword, a wrist blade, and crossbows. The hero is surrounded by aggressive threats in all places and yet he can destroy them all instantly with his fast and cunning counterattacks to his enemies. Assassin’s Creed, indeed, is one of the PS3 Games worth playing.
The people’s reaction to Altair is another thing, which sets apart Assassin’s Creed from the rest of the PS3 Games. While the hero is busy fighting or demonstrating his skills and tactics, you could see the people around visibly frowning or raising their eyebrows as they watch him. A perfect example for this is the scene where Altair attacks a random civilian. As the victim drops to the ground, the villagers stand in shock while others run away from the place screaming.
You might be wondering where the hero’s name comes from. Altair is an Arabic word, which means “the flying eagle.” Indeed, the developers of the game made sure that the character would really live up to his name. If you want to find out why, just watch Altair’s rapid and swift movements each time he faces his opponents. He projects a cool attitude even in the middle of a big fight. Altair is distinct from other heroes in PS3 games with the fact that his movements look so real and good to the players. The game‘s animation is simply visually stunning and lifelike. Assassin’s Creed is truly one of the best PS3 Games ever created by Ubisoft. The whole adventure is worth checking out.
