Rodeo is a popular sport in the United States that aims to showcase the skills and speed of the cowboys and cowgirls to participate in the events, which usually involves horses and other livestock. Te sport is derived from the working practices of cattle herders in the US, Canada, Australia, and South America.
Today’s modern rodeos typically take place in an indoor or outdoor fenced dirt arena that contains bucking chutes and roping chutes at either end. Most rodeo champions receive rewards in the form of prize money along with a rodeo belt buckle, which is one of the most recognized trophies in the world. Other rodeos give out prizes in the form of horse trailers, hand-tooled saddles, and vehicles.
There are many different types of rodeo events. Each event features its own rules, rewards, and styles. Standard events in most rodeos include bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. Bareback riding, saddle bronc, and bull riding care considered roughstock judged events, while steer wrestling, barrel racing, tie-down roping, and team roping are considered timed events.
Roughstock events are dangerous events that often draw the largest crowds. Competitors compete against one another in these types of events. Each competitor ride is called a go-round. The horses and bulls that are involved in these events are usually brought into the arena only once each day, but some competitors can ride them more than once. Prizes are given out for each go-round and for an overall winner. To score in a roughstock event, the competitor must use only one hand to ride the animal. Scores range from 1 to 25 points for the cowboy and 1 to 25 points for the animal for a maximum possible score of 100 points. In contrast, timed events are scored only by the lowest time.
The rodeo can be a fun spectator event for the whole family to enjoy.

Where To Get Tickets For the Hannah Montana Best Of Both Worlds Concert In Houston

Image : http://www.flickr.com
All good things must come to an end. On March 9, 2008 at 3:45, Hannah Montana’s Best Of Both Worlds Tour will come to an end at the Houston Rodeo. This will be our last chance to see Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montanna in concert, at least for 2008. She is currently touring with the Jonas Brothers, who are hugely popular in their own right. The Best Of Both Worlds Tour has been a hugely successful, highly entertaining tour that has been popular with both kids and parents. On the heals of the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana Best Of Both Worlds movie, the excitement for this last stop on the tour will likely be high.
As every one knows, tickets for this tour have been unbelievably hard to come by. Stories of families camping out to buy tickets only to have the tickets sell out in seconds are not at all uncommon. Many Hannah fans scour the internet in search of whatever tickets they can get and Houston will likely be no exception. Here are the most common places to get Hannah Montana tickets:
Tickets Now: This is a well known ticket seller but they can sometimes be expensive. Currently they have about 14 sets of tickets for sale but most are upper level. They range in price, but expect to pay at least $150 for only two.
Razor Gator: This seller has a bit more variety but again has mostly upper level and runs a bit more expensive.
Ebay: In my opinion, the best way to go. There are many choices of both lower and upper in a variety of price ranges.

American Business in History – The Colorado Narrow Gauge Railroads

Image : http://www.flickr.com
By 1858 there were mining camps booming all along Cherry Creek in Colorado, an area that is now smack dab in the center of Denver. As the miners followed the gold up the rivers and creeks, the savvy ones knew that the real source had to be high up in the mountains making up the center and western parts of the state. Up they climbed, and within a year or two mines were busily working all through that rugged region, with tons of gold-bearing ore taken out of the ground daily. But getting it to the mills was another matter, with mules first, and then wagons being the sole forms of transport, very expensive propositions that were completely impossible during the harsh winters in those mountains.
Enter the railroads. But there was a catch: the ruggedness of the terrain made standard gauge track impractical, with the cost of blasting out the gentle curves needed for those trains prohibitively expensive. The solution was the narrow gauge railroad, a gauge more than a foot narrower than standard, but one which allowed consider-ably tighter turns and tamed the challenge of those remote peaks.
FREIGHT FIRST, BUT PASSENGERS A CLOSE SECOND
The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad was the most notable of these business ventures, building track through over 1000 miles of mountains and passes, and connecting the growing cities of the Colorado plains to the sources of the gold ore high in the Rockies. The narrow gauge solved the problem, bringing the cost of transporting the ore down from $80 a ton to about $8. A side effect, but one that offered obvious promise, was the spectacular scenery that suddenly became available to passengers willing to ride the rails through to the western part of the state.
IF YOU CAN’T NEGOTIATE: BUILD YOUR OWN TOWN!
An immediate issue that came along with the new sales in passenger fares was the challenge of lodging and other accommodations. The miners were content to live in tents and dugouts, but the passengers were less amenable to rushing winds and teeth-chattering cold! So the railroad brass began negotiations with the town of Animus City to build a railroad terminus there. The talks hit a standstill however, with the result that the railroad bought land from homesteaders south of the town, and built a new city in 1880, complete with terminus, calling it Durango. Almost the entire population of Animus City pulled up stakes and moved south – leaving Animus a ghost town!
THE LEGACY: ADVENTURES STILL AVAILABLE TODAY
The really exciting outcome of all this activity is what’s available to travelers today. When the mines had finally played out, the railroad pulled up all the rails and ties that had served the mountains for so long – but they left the rail beds that carried them. Those routes, through some of the most breath-taking scenery in the United States, still exist, along with many of the tunnels and roadside equipment that supported the trains that used them. While rugged vehicles are recommended for some of the higher parts of the roads, history buffs will find these drives through the Rockies just as beautiful as they were 100 years ago, routing them to ghost towns, mines, tramways, and water towers that excite the imagination and give a first-hand look at old time life in those mountains. In addition, the still operating railroads, the Durango & Silverton, and the Cumbres & Toltec, allow one to see jaw-dropping scenery through the smoke and steam of period locomotives, an adventure that is worth the time and price. The Durango & Silverton trip runs over the route built by entrepreneur Otto Mears, through valleys and passes considered impassable at the time, and allowing the passenger a look at two towns little changed from their original form in the late 1800′s. That single section of railroad carried over $300,000,000 in gold down to Durango from the mines in the mountains around Silverton, at least one of which, the Old Hundred Mine, can still be visited today.
Looking for an adventurous trip that will give you a front row seat to business efforts in the 1800′s? Take your next vacation there.

Colorado State Fair and Rodeos

Image : http://www.flickr.com
In Pueblo, Colorado there is a State Fair that is filled with Cowboys, and Cowgirls and celebrates Mexican culture in Rodeos and an Annual Fiesta Day. This fair is held every year from late August to early September. Visitors to the fair come to check out the food, and the music and the broncin’ bucks.
This is a Rodeo Fair with both the PRCA and the Charreada Rodeo. At the PRCA you’ll sit on the edge of your seats watching rope tricks, target shooting from a racing horse and the grittiest rodeo riders around. The Charreada has some tough competition but has some scary moments with bull riding and bull tailing in which the charro has to grab the tail of the bull!
There is also the Truck and Tractor Pullers Association Competition with eight classes of competition from the econo-modified small block tractor to the Limited Diesel Tractor. It is extra to see this competition but well worth it for the mud and the glory.
The Pepsi Stage in Family Park is free and open to all fairgoers who are looking for a little entertainment while they relax their feet and enjoy the cool grass and maybe eat something. It along with the Comcast Amphitheatre make great arenas for local Colorado musicians and talent to show off their skills.
For the past thirteen years the fair has been hosting Fiesta Day, a chance to celebrate Hispanic and Mexican food, fun and culture at the fair. It usually goes late, so be sure you can make past midnight without turning into a pumpkin or more likely falling asleep on the drive home!
If you love parades this fair has three of them. The Fiesta Parade is a highlight of the Fiesta Day celebrations with Mexican bands and the traditional Mariachi Mass before the parade. The Kids Parade is just for kids and is filled with kids too; you can come see kids dressed up in their best and most unique costumes as they compete for prizes based on creativity. The State Fair Parade follows a different theme each year and is held towards the beginning of the fair.

Electrical Lineman

Image : http://www.flickr.com
What is an electrical lineman? An electrical lineman, sometimes referred to as a utility lineman, electric lineman, journeyman lineman or power lineman (after one completes lineman training and after being an apprentice lineman).
An electrical lineman installs, repairs and maintains transmission and distribution electric power grids. A lineman works on high voltage wires or conductors and must adhere to the most stringent safety rules and protocols, as electrical work is inherently dangerous. It is very popular to be a member of a union, or the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).
How does one become a One can go to a lineman school or training center and work for a utility company and receive on-the-job-training as an apprentice lineman.
Typically an apprenticeship lasts 3 to 4 years and contains up to 6 or 7 steps. With some companies, you must first be a groundman which is an entry level job. As a groundman, one assists linemen in their duties by driving heavy line trucks or bucket trucks and sorting and organizing line tools, sending linemans tools up power poles by handline to the journeyman linemen and apprentices at work.
During a linemans apprenticeship, one will learn pole climbing, although at times he will ride in a bucket truck. Some linemen don’t allow apprentices to use bucket trucks until they top out to journeyman lineman. They will learn rigging techniques, safety and first aid, electrical theory, transformer hook-up and theory, wire stringing techniques, pole setting, covering techniques (primary voltages), use of rubber gloves and rubber protective equipment, and more.
Once one completes apprenticeship training, he becomes a journeyman lineman. A journeyman lineman or power lineman can now find work all over the world, and receive top pay. There are power lineman jobs and utility jobs posted on many different mediums. Various events, such as a linemans rodeo, are out there to showcase a linemans skills.

Corporate Party Ideas

Image : http://www.flickr.com
It is not easy to organize a successful party. Food, drinks and recorded music are fun, but since there are quite a lot of occasions to celebrate throughout the year, thrown repeatedly such parties soon get boring.
Why not – at least once or twice in the year, as, for example, on the occasion of Christmas, New Year Day or corporate anniversary – have a party a bit different from an ordinary drinking spree, a party to be original and remembered long afterwards.
So what makes a party successful? Is it possible to organize an unforgettable, smooth-running event on your own?
The most important thing is the theme, the idea. But it is not always easy to invent a theme. And it is even more complicated to realize it. Usually, it requires much effort. When choosing a theme, it is advisable to pay attention to several criteria.
First of all, you should have in mind that the aim of a corporate party is not only relaxation, but also getting to know one another better through interaction, revealing personal qualities, etc. That is, the point of a party is team building. Therefore, it is especially important that all the staff members could participate. Here “participate” means far more than remaining passive watchers because active participation is one of the keys of a successful party. The role of a watcher (if it can be called a role at all) is simply boring. Let your employees feel that they are important and strong as personalities by giving them a chance to express themselves or accomplish certain tasks. A theme party is an ideal time to do it.
An inseparable part of a holiday party is humor. A light or sharper touch of humor should dominate in every theme.
It is also very important that the theme should be chosen considering the company’s sphere of activity and the specialties of the people involved – the theme should be something out of the ordinary, maybe something exotic or lightly shocking.
Unrealized childhood dreams may be a good idea when choosing a theme. Maybe your boss wanted to become a fireman as a child? Why not put a fire-fighter costume on him and make him sit into a fire truck on boss day or his birthday? Or why not get serious gentlemen immersed in a pool of coloured balls? It’s so nice when people free their true selves, stepping over the line of everyday routine.
It is also important to take into account the occasion on which the party is organized. Surely, if it is a or New Year party, you won’t do without the usual attributes such as Santa Claus, Christmas tree, gifts and fire-works, and somehow or other the theme of the party will have to match the occasion. In case of many other events, the freedom of choice is greater, there is space for infinite interpretations.
If it is a corporate outing, the theme should allow time for activity: tasks to be carried out, games and so on.
Still lacking ideas? Here are several themes:
- Cowboy party (country music and dance, rodeo, whiskey, cigars);
- Knightly tournaments (show fights with thorny knob-sticks (fake ones) followed by the same sort of fights involving the participants, horses, ladies);
- Japanese samurai (fighting with kendo swards, calligraphy, tea ceremony);
- Fire-fighters (fire-engines, helmets, staged fire scene);
- Travel in time;
- UFO (flying saucer, aliens, other planets);
- Beer festival (beer pavilion, the German ,,Oktober Fest” mood);
- alternative sport championship (paintball, electronic basketball, curling, quad-bike race, running with five-man skis (a pair of skis for five persons), sumo, pillow battle);
- tracing classical literature (The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Don Quixote, etc.)
Once the theme is selected, it needs proper implementation. The costumes are not enough. The success of the party also depends on the choice of decorations, music, shows, tasks prepared for the participants, food and drinks.
Moreover, a party must have a culmination point. Be it travel in time or a medieval knight tournament, there has to be something to surprise or amaze the participants. It may be a flying saucer landing, an enemy attack or whatever: it depends on your imagination and possibilities.
Meanwhile fire-works, hot-air balloons, a ball-pool, trampoline, soap bubbles and the like may serve to create a festive atmosphere and complement the theme.
An inseparable attribute of a fun party is photos.
Now, should companies organize corporate parties on their own, or maybe it is better to ask for professional help?
Choosing the people to entrust your event to depends not only on the budget but also on your expectations, the time foreseen for preparation, the needed equipment and many other factors.
Organising a corporate party yourself is cheaper. But there is some risk in doing so since even the smallest details may spoil a seemingly successful event; thus, lack of professionalism may be a spoke in the wheel. Besides, it may cost a lot of time and nerves for the staff members responsible for such events as they may lack experience. Let alone the responsibility which will not let you relax and fully enjoy the celebration. Even if you have decided to organize a party yourself, you can still ask for professional assistance. Currently there is a wide range of such services in Lithuania, from party ideas to equipment rent. Among them, there are indeed original things for parties: the biggest grill in Lithuania, a submarine towed on the snow, hot-air balloons, bubble machines, etc.
In the global context, event planning professionals in Lithuania can offer high-level services. Choosing professional help in planning an event is a way to avoid repetition. It may happen that some of your guests have already taken part in a similar party, so a good event planning company will never organize the same event a second time. Moreover, experienced event planners will always find a way out when unforeseen difficulties arise.
However, it is also important to remember that an event starts from the dialogue. Clients are welcome with their thoughts, ideas and wishes so that professionals could offer the most suitable solution.
Discussing all the details and nuances before the event is just vital.
Some more tips when planning an event
To ensure a smooth and truly memorable party, it is advisable to start preparing at least before 2 months, even though it would actually take shorter.
It is also advisable to hold corporate parties on weekdays rather then on weekends, so you will have a greater choice of venues and entertainments.

Cowgirl Fashion – Yesterday and Today

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Cowgirls may be considered by many to be a rough and tough sort. After all, since the beginning of the century Cowgirls have been competing in dangerous rodeo events and doctoring cattle on the range right alongside men. We’ve seen the beauties of the west roping, riding and sometimes hitting the dirt! Always taking pride in their appearance, throughout history these women have made the range a more beautiful place to live. Just like western women of yesteryear, today’s cowgirls are poised and professional. Their spirit is strong and their beauty shines as bright as a west Texas sunset. But was that really beauty shining or a bling belt?
In the rodeo arena, western ladies fashion has always been a big part of the cowgirl image. Since the early 1900′s women involved in rodeo and wild west shows were truly showwomen. Commonly donning large hats, brightly colored cowgirl clothing featuring intricate embroidery and fringe laced gloves, these women were sure to attract attention – if not for their riding, roping and shooting skills, surely for their choice of attire.
Over the years cowgirl fashion has evolved and changed as fads come and go. Here to stay however is every woman’s desire to portray an image of who she is by what she wears. Popular choices for modern cowgirl clothing is funky unique clothing with a rock star flair. Turquoise cowgirl jewelry has been a staple in the women’s wardrobe of cowgirl accessories and will continue to be for years to come. The turquoise jewelry worn by western women often times is handmade on the Indian Reservations of the southwest. Today’s women of the west are proud of their western heritage and stand by their pledge to live by the cowboy creed of honesty and integrity. Many women display their way of life by choosing ornate chunky cowgirl jewelry, bling sandals and other fun western cowgirl accessories.
Some of the most trendy accessories are cowgirl bling belts which have gained popularity in the past few years. Call it cowgirl bling, sparkle, or glitter, the bottom line is – the brighter, the better! It’s not uncommon to see bling-adorned cowgirl purses, and turquoise bracelets beaded with crystal. The sparkles don’t stop there, however. Now more than ever it is common to see shirts featuring cowgirl bling cross or fleur de lis symbols. Western ladies fashion of today has a little bit of a dark side with skull and pistol decorated cowgirl hats and shirts being popular, especially with teenage fashionistas.
So where does the western woman of today find the hottest trends in western fashion? Western clothing stores and cowgirl boutiques are top choices to find great deals on clothing and more. To find the best selection of turquoise jewelry, cowgirl accessories and even western decor items, one might mosey on over to an online cowgirl boutique for some shopping fun.
Western women not only enjoy taking pride in looking their best, but it’s not unusual for them to put the same concentrated effort into adorning their western homes with rustic cowgirl home decor. The internet can also prove to be a great way to find not only cowgirl clothing but also rare and unique western home decor items. Popular choices for cowgirl decor include western themed tables, mirrors, decorative rope accents, western coat racks, lamps, and photo frames just to name a few.
It is said that the women who won the west shaped the world. There is more to being a cowgirl than winning belt buckles or wearing the latest fashions. Cowgirls are just as likely to get noticed because they are strong yet feminine, hardworking yet poised. They don’t mind getting dirt under her nails, although chances are they are perfectly polished (a good way to conceal the dirt!). Today’s cowgirls grab the traditions of yesterday and ride them in the future, they just happen to enjoy looking extra good doing it!

RV Camping In Dalhart – Exciting Family Vacation Guaranteed

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Dalhart, Texas. A small town near the famous XIT Ranch, it acts as both the site of the annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion, and serves as a stopping point for people on their way to the Rocky Mountains for some fun in the summer, as well as people on cross-country driving trips. RV camping there is easy as pie if you follow some common sense rules of RVing.
When planning your trip through or to Dalhart, decide how long you will be staying. If you are only going to be passing through one night, setting up a good parking space at the Dalhart Wal-mart may be the easiest (and cheapest) solution. But if that’s not your style, or you are bringing the family down for some vacation time, setting up in one of the 3 RV sites available in Dalhart is usually a simple matter. Look for RV spots in El Highway 54, the Corral, or Sunset Village campgrounds. If you know when you will be in town, reservations are always a good idea, especially if you are driving into town for the XIT Rodeo.
XIT Rodeo and Reunion
The XIT Rodeo and Reunion is probably the single biggest scheduled event in the town. It is named after the 3,000,000 acre XIT Ranch which was awarded to the men who built the state capitol building. The XIT Rodeo is a distinctly and uniquely Texan event. The Rodeo lasts for two weeks, and includes everything you would expect at a rodeo. Some of the top riders in the nation come to compete in this event, and you will be blown away by what these top riders can do. Event schedules are available every year before the rodeo, and are accessible vie the World Wide Web.
And for those who love history, the XIT museum has several exhibits that explore the history of the XIT Ranch. There are period rooms including a wedding chapel, and exhibits that examine the firearms and branding equipment used by the ranch hands. All this is definitely worth a visit.
So if you are at a loss for your next RV camping destination, consider going to Dalhart. The small town atmosphere is relaxing, the scenery is beautiful, and the Rodeo is an event that must be seen to be believed. You and your family will have a great time RV camping in Dalhart!

The Sugar Festival in Clewiston, Florida

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Clewiston is an interesting little town in the middle of south Florida. Though it isn’t coastal, it is located on the banks of Lake Okeechobee (that’s right! The second largest freshwater lake in the United States! THAT Lake Okeechobee!) It is, according to the city’s fathers, “America’s Sweetest Town,” no doubt because of the large amounts of sugar cane grown there (interestingly, the reception you get from the townspeople can be somewhat cold). They like to say that they are “in the middle of everywhere” – that is to say that they are about 60 miles from Ft. Myers in the southwest and 60 miles from Palm Beach in east. While there are always some things to do in Clewiston year round – bass fishing in Lake Okeechobee is always good – every April, the town really comes into its own with the Sugar Festival.
The Sugar Festival takes place over two weekends – the second and third Fridays and Saturdays in April. Like all county-style fairs, you will find standards like farming equipment expos and a beauty pageant (where they crown an annual Miss Sugar). One of my favorite events localized to the Clewiston festival is the Taste of Sugar Dessert Contest, where chefs of all types strive to make the most delectable sugary creations they can. Other highlights include an old fashioned cane sugar grinding exhibition (surprisingly interesting) and an antique car show. Admission to the festivities is free, so why not? It really is the highlight of Clewiston’s entertainment offerings.
Since you’re already going broke to go to the sugar festival, it’s worth considering renting a limousine from Millenium Limo to go to your favorite event (be it the Miss Sugar Pageant, the rodeo, or the bass fishing tournament.) It would wow the Clewiston small-towners, and be pretty entertaining to boot. Clewiston will never look at you the same again!
