Before we enter into discussing the treatment for Clinical Anxiety, it may be a good idea to find out exactly what the disease entails.

Clinical anxiety is often comorbid with clinical, or major, depression. All this means is that the one illness can inflict the patient at the same time as the other. It’s usually a condition that demands hospitalization, because it can affect a person’s life to the point where they can’t really function. The patient is always thinking the worst.

For instance, if they hear a fire engine when they’re out shopping, they automatically rush home because they’re convinced their house is on fire. They hear a creak in the night and think that either a burglar has broken in, or the roof’s about to collapse on them. It’s pathological anxiety, always accompanied by apprehension, tension and at its least, uneasiness. They’re hyper-vigilant, sometimes to the point of never going to bed, in case disaster strikes. It’s easy to see how depression can follow on the heels of such a condition.

The sufferer knows, at least in one part of the mind, that their fears are groundless, but they simply can’t shake them. It’s estimated that depression strikes 60% of the time in such cases, but I confess I’m surprised the figure isn’t higher. The only bright spot, if such it may be called, is that at least the depression has a cogent cause. Once the anxiety is taken care of, then the depression should certainly recede.

It’s understandable, too, that this illness can be accompanied by substance abuse; drug taking and/or alcohol. In the worst conditions, the patient may experience psychotic breaks, suffering delusions and hallucinations. It is, after all, an understandable step from imagining your house is on fire, to actually seeing flames leaping from the roof and hearing the crackle of burning timbers. This would be extreme, but it can happen.

As far as treatment’s concerned, the steps involved must be taken gradually and, especially in the case of elderly people, with tact. The degree of severity must first be assessed and to what extent the patient’s daily life is being disturbed. Amazing though it may seem, it’s also necessary to have the patient admit to their illness. Again, with the elderly, pride can take a front row seat here.

However, once the patient is happy to work with the psychiatrist, then he or she must be educated about the origin and symptoms of their ailment. Assuming the patient is of the ‘walking wounded’ variety, in other words they can carry on their normal lives without too much disturbance from their condition, then lifestyle changes may be suggested. Stress reduction, if they’re in such an environment. Caffeine avoidance, stopping smoking and definitely no alcohol or illicit drugs.

At all times, signs of suicide risk must be considered and carefully observed. If the person lives with their family, then the latter must be advised to be particularly on the lookout for such symptoms. If alone, then a care professional should be asked to look in frequently.

Then the patient should be informed of the various forms of treatment available and encouraged to ask questions and discuss these options. After all, certain types of therapy may frighten the person. Electro-convulsive therapy springs to mind. While it didn’t actually frighten me, I can’t pretend that the thought of it made me jump for joy!

There are far less invasive procedures, of course, in the forms of a number of psychotherapeutic treatments and here our old friend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is particularly efficacious.

As far as medications are concerned, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, (SSRIs) and Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors, (SNRIs) are considered safe and effective. Labelling on antidepressant products are mandated by the FDA, and these should be discussed in depth with your doctor as well as carefully read, most especially so far as young adults are concerned. For some reason, suicide has taken a nasty toll of this segment of the population due to taking these drugs, and their intake without proper consultation and study is extremely foolhardy

The basic story is of an angle that after recording life falls in love with life, not just the trapezes artist that he eventually wants to meet in the flesh. We get to follow his transition blow by blow, as he attempts to follow his desire.

Peter Falk as Der Filmstar is a catalyst and the glue to the story. I even mention that Colombo did not have a hat.

The film started out unscripted and the directors and writers had to punt. You may notice this as the story improves. There was a partial start script from Paris Texas.

I took a German class or several about the time of this film. Therefore, some of the film language is natural, some, I recognize after the subtitles and some is new. No one slurs the words so this would be a great training film. However, I never made it there so this is as close as I will ever get to 1987 Berlin.

Acne is an inflammatory skin disorder that affects nearly 80 percent of Americans between the ages of twelve and twenty-four. Many people find over-the-counter and prescription acne treatments to be too harsh; or they may experience unwanted side effects. There are several home treatments for acne including dietary and herbal supplements, essential oils and homemade remedies.

Certain essential oils have shown to be beneficial in the treatment of acne. Many people believe that essential oils should be avoided because they add additional oil to the skin. This is false. When treating acne with essential oils, you will want to use therapeutic grade oils. Instead of leaving an oily residue, therapeutic oils will dissipate when exposed to air and leave the skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The best essential oils for acne treatment include: Tea Tree, Lavender, Rosewood, Bergamot and Rosewood. Essential oils need to be mixed with a carrier oil such as Jojoba, Sesame or Grapeseed.

Tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic and antiseptic. Dab full-strength tea tree oil on blemishes three times a day. If the full strength oil is too strong for your liking, combine 10 to 15 drops of oil with 1/4-cup warm water and pat on infected area with a cotton ball. Tea tree oil soap is another option.

The leaves of lavender, red clover, and strawberry plants can be used as a steam sauna for the face. Lavender is a natural germicide and stimulates cell growth. Simply add 2 to 4 tablespoons of dried or fresh herbs in two quarts of water and heat until water is steaming. Remove the pot from the burner, place on a potholder on a table, and sit with your face at a comfortable distance from the steam for fifteen minutes. If acne is severe or badly inflamed, do not use steam treatments, as this may worsen the condition.

Cook oatmeal as you normally would, allow it to cool a bit and while it is still warm, apply it to your entire face. Allow the oatmeal to dry, than rinse with warm water. Foods that seem to worsen symptoms include anything processed, most meat (especially red meat), sugar, flour, wheat, caffeine, and alcohol.

Witch hazel has been used for many years as a home treatment for acne. Some find cleaning the face with egg whites helps to soothe acne pain and inflammation. Others find apple cider vinegar soothing to acne lesions and some claim it helps to reduce scarring.

Last, but not least, a little known home treatment for acne involves the use of a cucumber. Just peel the cucumber and blend in a blender or food processor until liquefied; then apply to the area affected with acne.

During this past decade, encouraged by the maturation and relative financial status of the baby boomer generation, ownership of vintage cars has exploded. In addition to the thousands of local clubs that have been created, over 30 regional and national organizations now support vintage car track competition. For the purposes of this article and using the general guide of the vintage clubs, reference is to any body style created through 1972 as vintage (and pre WW2 as antique – subject of a future article).

Most of the related apparel, prior to the advent of “a2z Racer Gear” just over 2 years ago, was a haphazard collection of T Shirts, Hats and a few jacket styles created by general apparel manufacturers for limited distribution or created by clubs and produced by local Screen Printers. International Racing Champion, Tony “a2z” Adamowicz came up with the idea of recreating period correct replications that could be worn with cars of the period and / or capture the essence of the legends of that period.

Having participated in a race that became the basis of what many professional drivers consider the best automotive racing movie ever, Le Mans (1970) and having been a friend of the legendary Steve McQueen – the basis of his first jacket took shape. Receiving licenses to use the Gulf, Firestone and Chronograph Heuer labels, the first jacket was created. Having a cotton shell in a twill weave gave the appearance of the original Nomex fabric and having a 100% cotton poplin lining allowed the jacket to qualify for most club events – natural fiber wrist to neck. The jacket was also made with a swing gusset shoulder, like a racing jacket, for ease of reach and motion. The reaction was overwhelming.

Before receiving additional license rights from the Steve McQueen estate, the jacket was endorsed by 5 time Le Mans Winner Derek Bell (got one for his son), the family of Jo Siffert (Phillipe Siffert owns one), Brian Redman (owns one), color commentator for Speed Vision Greg Creamer (owns 2), Penske Le Mans Driver Romain Dumas (owns one) and Chad McQueen ordered jackets for himself and his kids. The jacket found it’s way onto a number of Porsche or Porsche related bulletin boards like Pelican BB, Spyder Replica BB, etc. Picked up and promoted by Porsche Performance Parts distributors and Formula 1 Distributors, the pent up demand for this type of product rushed to the surface. Tony followed quickly with a “Bull Denim” Pit Crew Jacket and high quality leather versions of the driving jacket.

The word then spread to the Carroll Shelby organization, who licensed Tony to manufacture the legendary Wool Team Shelby Cobra Jacket worn during the 1965 World Championships. To be historically accurate, a sample of the jacket was supplied by former Championship Team Shelby Mechanic, Phil Henny. This success led to a leather suede tribute shoe for the Shelby Cobras and has branched out into custom luggage for the hard to fit trunk of the Shelby Mustang GT500.

Tony has recently started on jacket samples for the Terlinqua Mustangs, a replica of the leather cap worn my McQueen, and a number of club specific items. From Tony’s point of view, the exciting part of this venture appears to be the acceptance by non automotive officianados – main stream customers – to be drawn to what was perceived as a very specific niche market.
