Velodyne DEQ-10R 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Black) Definite BANG for the buck… – C. R. Joy – Texas
Purchased a DEQ-10R for use with a Yamaha YSP-3000 5.1-channel Sound Projector (soundbar). By running the Velodyne’s room correction setup and then hooking it up to the Yamaha and running that unit’s room correction I have a seamless 2-speaker simulated surround system in my apartment. Well worth the money as these Velodyne units will tie into any existing system. I do wish the unit was a sealed enclosure as it can lose some of its ‘tightness’ as the volume increases, but that’s a very small nit to pick. If you’ve got the budget to get one of the bigger units, by all means do so. Unless you are strictly limited in how big the speaker can be, you can always turn down the volume on the bigger subs while they will always move more air. Still, no complaints about the overall sound and quality of this 10-incher.
Velodyne: DEQ-10R The DEQ-R Series subwoofers are the ideal combination of technology and an intuitive user interface, and they offer incredible value. Quickly and easily add a powerful, feature-rich subwoofer to your entertainment system. Use the included remote control to maximize the bass in your room from any source, while a clearly visible front LED display instantly confirms your choice. The DEQ-R subwoofers deliver great bass…made easy.

Mobile Device Security

Image : http://www.flickr.com
With the advent of smart-phones, mobile device security has become one of the major concerns – for both owners as well as agencies manufacturing prototypes and applications for the same. However, as a user, you can keep some basic points in mind which may help in warding off mobile device security concerns. Listed below are some:
* The Devices Themselves – Most heavily user-oriented smart-phones are not well-built on the security front. For instance, the iPhone can be a much more vulnerable device than the BlackBerry as the former is built to enhance usability and flexibility.
* Encryption – Be strict to maintain device encryption codes, especially if you have been directed by the manufacturer to do so.
* Authentication Protocols – Use authentication protocols like passwords and other elements to help maintain a strong level of mobile device security, even if it is stolen or lost.
* Remote Disable Functions – Every other day, one of your friends, colleagues or family members forget heir mobile devices in a cab or forget it on their desk while attending a conference. Guys, take a lesson from them and enable the remote disable function. This allows the mobile manufacturing agency’s staff to disable to remove sensitive data that is stored on your mobile device when it’s lost or stolen.
* Third-Party Apps – Monitor third-party applications. They probably are the most threatening of all, and the open-ended framework of smart-phones makes them all the more vulnerable to such applications.
Apart from these basic steps, you should also keep the customer-care or emergency help numbers at hand. And always remember- as much as a mobile device is a part of your life, it may become a tool against the same if proper security protocols have not been duly installed.
In case you are looking for a established Mobile Solutions Vendor which understands the nuances of Mobile Security and has implemented similar solutions in the past then you may want to approach Endeavour software Technologies. Their Mobile Operations Security Services (MOSS) team reviews the applications on the following parameters and recommends/implements solutions accordingly.
* Security Policy
* Asset Management and Reporting
* Device Provisioning and settings management
* Application Management
* Central console for remote management
* OTA intelligence, troubleshooting, and support
* Device Flexibility
* Backup and recovery

French Door Window Treatments – You Have Plenty of Options!

Image : http://www.flickr.com
French doors, also named French windows can be used for different purposes – they are very popular as patio doors, as dividers between large living spaces, and as doors to a balcony. There are modern and traditional French doors and both of them create an inviting and a relaxing atmosphere in a room.
Usually French doors look wonderful even without any additional dressing, but if you wish to cover them, you have plenty of choices. To decide what kind of French door window treatments is a best one just for your interior, determine first your needs and wishes: do you want to get more privacy and light blockage, or are you just looking for a beautiful dressing for your French door? And don’t forget about your existing interior style.
Variations of French door window treatments:
Horizontal mini blinds
You can choose wooden, aluminum, or vinyl mini blinds. It depends on your budget, taste and on your entire room appearance. With wood blinds you will get a classic informal look in the room, while aluminum blinds better match modern interiors. Vinyl mini blinds are a very practical choice, especially for high humidity areas, like bathroom or kitchen, but they may look not very attractive in such living spaces as living/dining room, patio, or a bedroom with a balcony, especially if you want your interior to look stylish.
If you decided about this kind of French door window treatments, keep in mind, that horizontal blinds need enough space when they are completely opened. Look for an appropriate slat size. Wooden mini blinds usually come in 1″ slat size, while vinyl and aluminum mini blinds can be 1/2″ or 1″. Some manufacturers provide special shapes for their blinds. You may consider so called “cut-outs” option, if you order custom made window blinds and need space for door knobs.
Fabric French door window treatments
Draperies – most traditional type of window treatments for French doors. There are endless of variations. With a wide range of fabrics and drapery styles, you can not only make your French doors more stylish, but also give a finished look to the entire room. If the space of the room allows – hang your draperies wide and high enough above the doors. It provides an additional elegance to the room and makes a door movement easier.
Sheers – you can hang them on your French doors using drapery rods on the top and the bottom of the doors. However, many people don’t like sheers because of their outdated look. You may consider screen shades or solar roller shades instead, which still provide outside view, protect furniture from sun rays and also reduce glare. You can install these shades in addition to draperies, or without them.
Window Shades
Fabric roman shades – look nice for many interior styles – contemporary, country, classic, and so on. The level of privacy and light blockage depends on the type of fabric you select for your shades. As for your roman shades styles, you can choose one that you like the best and that match best your room interior.
Bamboo roman shades or bamboo roller shades go well with several interior styles – modern, orient, exotic, even classic. Depending on their texture, these shades may gently diffuse light, or block it completely.
If you choose blinds or shades for your French doors, consider to get something that holds them on the bottom and prevents from flopping when you open and close the door. For horizontal blinds you can install hold-down braclets, and for roman shades some people use Velcro. You may also find your own solution.

American Pickers: The Complete Season 1
Always an interesting show! – Dee J. –
When a friend first told me about AP, I wasn’t that interested. After I watched just one show, however, Frank & Mike HAD my attention! These guys are what reality TV SHOULD be about. The people they talk to are something to see, too. I highly recommend the series for anyone.
My only problem with AP? I’ve missed some of the episodes. I WILL be checking out the DVD release, to correct that problem!
American Pickers: The Complete Season 1: A and E Home Video: In small towns, and along America’s back roads, treasures are waiting to be uncovered–valuable relics from our history that are hidden in junk piles, buried in barns and stacked in garages. It takes experts to find them…and turn rust to riches. Season One of AMERICAN PICKERS on HISTORY follows highly skilled ‘pickers’ Mike Wolfe, owner of Antique Archaeology in Iowa, and his business partner Frank Fritz, as they hunt down objects with historical, collectible and pop culture value that have been long forgotten by their owners. From a vintage Harley to a one-of-a-kind Ferris wheel, each treasure hunt uncovers weird and wonderful Americana, offering a glimpse into a little-known side of the antiques business. Along the way, Mike and Frank meet people whose own stories open a window into American lives and history.

Literary Life: A Second Memoir
Literary Life: A Second Memoir A huge disappointment – W. Paul Blakey – Sechelt, BC Canada
This is a terrible book. If you are looking for information about McMurtry relating to writing … go to Wikipedia, you are more likely to find it there than from this horse’s mouth.
Horse’s ass more likely.
I lost count of the number of times he mentioned that he would tell more about (fill in the blank) at a later date. Especially the big Hollywood memoir …
The only good thing I can say is that I got the book from the library – didn’t waste any money on it.
Casual approach to McMurtry’s “Life” yields hazy results – Clare Quilty – a little pad in hawaii
Author, essayist and screenwriter Larry McMurtry has led a full life — some of his three dozen novels formed the basis for such classic films as “Hud,” “Terms of Endearment” and “The Last Picture Show”; he won an Academy award for scripting “Brokeback Mountain”; and his epic Western “Lonesome Dove” netted him a Pulitzer prize.
He’s also a well-traveled book dealer who survived a heart attack that led to quadruple bypass surgery and subsequent months of serious depression.
In fact, he’s been so busy he divided his memoirs into three volumes: One about rare book scouting; another recounting his career as a novelist; and a third devoted to working in Hollywood.
So it’s a shame “Literary Life,” the second and latest installment is kind of a drag.
In a series of short chapters, he tosses out stories and anecdotes like a man pitching cards at an upturned hat — some go in and some don’t.
A number of McMurtry’s famous friends drift through the tales, including authors Ken Kesey and Susan Sontag, editor Michael Korda, director Peter Bogdanovich and literary agent Irving “Swifty” Lazar, but they remain, for the most part, ill-defined wisps.
To use a “Lonesome Dove” analogy: “Life” is as laid-back as Gus McCrae but ultimately as dry as Woodrow Call.
The first volume of this series, simply called “Books,” is a far better crafted discussion that, unfortunately, focuses on a subject with a much smaller range of interest.
Hopefully by the time McMurtry gets around to volume three and his adventures in the screen trade, he will have regained enough wind to give his memoirs the spark and feeling that makes his fiction writing so rich.
: “I had expected to be thrilled when I received my first copy of my first book, but when I opened the package and held the first copy in my hand, I found that I just felt sort of flat,” writes Larry McMurtry in Literary Life. “I learned then and have relearned many times since, that the best part of a writer’s life is actually doing it, making up characters, filling the blank page, creating scenes that readers in distant places might connect to. The thrill lies in the rush of sentences, the gradual arrival of characters who at once seem to have their own life.”
McMurtry is that rarest of artists, a prolific and genre-transcending writer as popular with reviewers as he is with his readers. The author of more than forty books — including essay collections, memoirs, and novels ranging from the Duane Moore series that began with The Last Picture Show to the Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove — McMurtry has delighted generations with his witty and elegant prose. In Literary Life, the sequel to Books, McMurtry expounds on life on the private side: the trials and triumphs of being a writer.
From his earliest inkling of his future career while at Rice University, to his tenure as a Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford with Ken Kesey in 1960, to his incredible triumphs as a bestselling author, Literary Life retains all the intimacy and charm of McMurtry’s previous autobiographical works. Replete with literary anecdotes and packed with memorable observations about writing, writers, and the author himself, the book provides a rare glimpse into the life and intellect of a brilliantly insightful man. It is a work that will be cherished not only by McMurtry’s admirers, but by the innumerable aspiring writers who seek to make their own mark on American literature.

Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter

Treatments of Eczema – How to Quickly Heal Eczema Wounds

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Back then I would have done anything to find a way of reducing the urge to scratch and to heal my damaged skin fast and without leaving unsightly scares.
Well, I did find a way. It was a natural method that gently and quickly calmed my skin and immediately started the healing process. I call it the Wound Healing Recipe. As a matter of fact this recipe is good for any cuts, abrasions or internal disruptions caused by injuries, tears or scratching.
Treatments of Eczema – Juicing Recipe
The recipe involves juicing a special combination of fruits or vegetables in a juicer. Drinking a glass of the Would Healing Recipe is an effective way to heal eczematous skin without reverting to steroids or medicines.
Juicing fruits and vegetables delivers much needed nutrients quickly to the system. It cleanses, rejuvenates, calms and heals damaged skin.
You should drink at least three glasses per day and try to stick to the same combination for maximum effect. Children should drink juices diluted with water. Drink a glass of juice before main meals or between meals. That way the juice can be quickly digested alone in the tummy without the burden of digesting other foods.
Treatments of Eczema – Wound Healing Recipes:
Combine and juice any of the following:
(1) Blackcurrants/Apples/Raspberries
(2) Strawberries/Mango
(3) Carrots/Parsley
(4) Apple/Spinach Leaves
Any one of the above four combinations will work wonders at healing your wounds. They are excellent Treatments of Eczema. The juices taste fresh and appetising. Continue drinking for between ten and fourteen days.

Have You Sustained Injuries As a Result of Medical Malpractice? Need a Lawsuit Loan?
Thus far, we have discussed the fundamental elements involved in pursuing a medical malpractice claim. A medical provider’s failure to conduct his/her practice in a manner consistent with established standards for providers of that same specialty is the threshold element. Secondly, we discussed the fact that, regardless of whether the provider adhered to the standards established, if the individual suffered no harm, there can be no claim. In the absence of the foregoing elements, individuals should be discouraged from pursuing such an action against the provider. Rest-assured, if you’re pursuing a lawsuit loan, these elements must be included in your claim.
We also discussed the need to, in addition to the harm, demonstrate damages. We discussed ways in which those damages may be determined, as well as the layers of review to which those damages will be subjected. It will be those damages on which the ultimate value of the claim will be assessed.
The liability of various institutions (e. g., hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices) in medical malpractice claims is the focus of this article. In addition to specific institutions, we will also briefly discuss liability that may accrue against various manufacturers (e. g., drug manufacturers, instrument manufacturers, etc.).
When making a determination as to whether the institution and/or facility in which the services were performed share liability for medical malpractice committed, it will be necessary to make a determination as to whether those institutions breached a fiduciary duty owed to individuals seeking care at those facilities. A fiduciary has a duty to individuals to provide care and, in many instances, protection to those in its charge. Institutions are not permitted to merely bill for physicians’ services, while ignoring the duty owed to the individuals seeking care in those institutions.
All institutions in which medical services are performed must adhere to various standards. Illustrative of this is the fact that hospitals have very strict regulations with respect to privileges that may be granted to physicians and/or surgeons, nurses, medical technicians, instruments, administrative procedures, etc. Additionally, clinics in which medical services are performed must adhere to strict regulations with respect to services performed therein. It is also significant to note that the services performed in physicians’ offices are subject to many similarly-rigid regulations. If any of these standards are breached, liability against the institution may accrue. However, it is unlikely that any medical malpractice claim will prevail if the first two elements discussed in this article have not been satisfied.
Standards are also established with respect to any medications that may be prescribed, medical procedures to which individuals may be subjected, sterilization of the instruments to be used on patients, transfer of patients from one place to another, etc. A breach of the duty owed to the patients receiving care and treatment in the facilities at which the services are rendered may constitute medical malpractice liability being ascribed to the institution in which the services were performed.
As previously stated, medical malpractice claims are often complex and very expensive! The expenses incurred as a result of medical services performed, the need to retain an attorney specializing in medical malpractice claims, the need to retain a medical expert, etc. often result in the plaintiff feeling overwhelmed. The plaintiff should be relieved to know that a lawsuit loan may be available, and may provide the much-needed financial resource. It is unfortunate that many plaintiffs are unaware of their ability to obtain a lawsuit loan, and, abandoned a meritorious claim due to their financial limitations.

Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson Never Went To Public School
Most of our Founding Fathers, including Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, like most average colonial Americans, spent few years, if any, in formal grammar schools of the day, yet they knew how to read and write well.
Most voluntary local grammar schools expected parents to teach their children to read and write before they started school. Most colonial parents apparently had no trouble teaching their children these skills.
At least ten of our presidents were home-schooled. James Madison’s mother taught him to read and write. John Quincy Adams was educated at home until he was twelve years old. At age fourteen, he entered Harvard. Abraham Lincoln, except for fifty weeks in a grammar school, learned at home from books he borrowed. He learned law by reading law books, and became an apprentice to a practicing lawyer in Illinois.
Other great Americans were similarly educated. John Rutledge, a chief justice of the Supreme Court, was taught at home by his father until he was eleven years old. Patrick Henry, one our great Founding Fathers and the governor of colonial Virginia, learned English grammar, the Bible, history, French, Latin, Greek, and the classics from his father.
Abigail Adams, Martha Washington, and Florence Nightingale were all taught at home by their mothers or fathers. John Jay was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers, a chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and a governor of New York. His mother taught him reading, grammar, and Latin before he was eight years old. John Marshall, our first Supreme Court Chief Justice, was home-schooled by his father until age fourteen. Robert E. Lee, Thomas Stonewall Jackson, George Patton, and Douglas MacArthur were also educated at home. Booker T. Washington, helped by his mother, taught himself to read by using Noah Webster’s Blue Back Speller.
Thomas Edison’s public school expelled him at age seven because his teacher thought he was feeble-minded. Edison, one of our greatest inventors, had only three months of formal schooling. After leaving school, his mother taught him the basics at home over the next three years. Under his mother’s care and instruction, young Edison thrived.
If Thomas Edison was alive today as that child of seven, school authorities would probably stick him in special- education classes. Poor Thomas would waste his precious mind and be bored to death until they released him from school at age sixteen.
So it turns out that many of the famous Americans our children now read about in their dumbed-down public-school textbooks were either homeschooled, never set foot in a government-controlled public school, or thankfully only went to a public school for a very short period of time.
