Any parent will tell you that you need lots of clothes for your baby. Not just the fancy designer stuff either, but the mundane day-to-day clothes that people take for granted. How many babygros will you go through in a day, for example, if your little one is spitting up on it constantly, or making a mess learning how to eat for the very first time? Don’t limit yourself to formal retail channels either: there are many garage sales around that could have some great deals, and if you know any other parent, they might be able to give you some clothes that their own children have grown out of. Be appreciative, and even if they won’t accept cash for them (which is normal), at least give them a token gift.

Finally, have a look online. For really cheap baby clothes, look at some of the classified ad websites, like Craigslist or ClassifiedAds.com, but also keep an eye out on eBay. You can even set up eBay alerts that send you an email when interesting auctions are taking place! It’s also worth keeping in mind that often parents add clothes to these sites when they’re doing a Spring clean, so keep an eye out for job lots. Buying a large number of items at the same time can really give you some great bargains. There are also plenty of websites where people can ‘freecycle’ (post stuff they’re finished with that you can take for free, usually assuming that you will collect them yourself).

And don’t forget the larger online retailers either, like Amazon, because buying cheap doesn’t have to mean avoiding new stuff! Just make sure you factor in the shipping costs before deciding that you’re getting a good deal!
