The Chicagoland area is known for great bike trails and you’ve just found a summary of the best bike trails in the Chicagoland area (north and northwest).
With so many great bike trails to choose from, there will, of course, be different opinions, depending on your personal riding style and preferences and what is most important to you. The top 5 bike trails selected have quite a bit to offer to a wide variety of riders.
Our top 5 bike trails choices include nicely paved trails as well as crushed stone trails and trails with access to more rugged mountain biking areas. Most of our top 5 trails connect other trails which will allow you to vary or extend your rides as you choose. You can select the best sections of the trails for short or medium distance rides or extend your rides to 100 miles or more on a some of these trails!
The Top 5 Bike Trails – Chicago North and Northwest
Fox River Bike Trail – The Fox River Trail (FRT) is the nicest paved bike trail in the Chicagoland area. The FRT has beautiful wooded areas along the river, cool winding paths through the woods and scenic views from the trail and from the many bridges that the FRT crosses.
The FRT starts in Aurora, Illinois on its southern end and runs north to Algonquin where it connects to the McHenry County Prairie Trail. Although the Prairie Trail can be taken all the way to the Wisconsin border, it becomes crushed stone and more rugged as you go north. You can also connect to the Illinois Prairie Path (IPP) (also crushed stone in many sections) at three different locations, for some very nice rides that branch out east on the beautiful IPP.
You can easily ride over 100 miles on the FRT and it’s connecting trails or you can select your favorite areas along the Fox River and enjoy a relaxing ride in the wooded areas along the riverside. This bike trail does get a little crowded on hot summer weekends and on holidays so if you prefer less people, I would suggest a weekday or off time.
Des Plaines River Trail – The Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) is a nice crushed stone trail with some wooded and shaded areas mixed with sunny prairie sections. Traffic on the trail is a little lighter than many of the other bike trails in this area (probably due to the crushed stone surface). Most of the highway intersections are bridge underpasses so you can do quite a distance, non stop without having to deal with highway crossings.
The northern section of the DPRT is the nicest crushed stone bike trail in the area. The northern part of the DPRT starts in Lincolnshire (Half Day) and can be taken all the way to the Wisconsin border. One of the nicest features of this trail is that most of it is well shaded on hot summer days. You may want to avoid this trail in extremely wet weather. The underpasses can be closed when the river is high and when there has been flooding.
Green Bay Bike Trail - The Green Bay Trail (GBT) is a crushed stone path that winds it’s way through the wooded north shore suburbs not far from the shores of Lake Michigan. The main 18 mile stretch of the GBT avoids most of the north shore business areas but there are many nice places that are easily accessible for an interesting break from the trail. Some parts of the GBT actually lead you through some residential streets of the affluent north shore suburbs and you can also visit Ravina Music Festival and some of the beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan.
The GBT starts in Wilmette, Illinois at the southern end and goes north to Lake Bluff when it turns into the Robert McClory Bike Path. There is some disputes regarding the exact path names but for this article I am referring to the GBT between Wilmette and Lake Bluff. The GBT does get a little crowded at peak times so if you prefer more solitude, I would suggest planning your ride around the potential busy times.
Great Western Bike Trail -The Great Western Trail (GWT) is one of the many Rails to Trails bike trails and rolls through the Illinois prairies and countryside from St. Charles, Illinois to Sycamore. The trail is crushed stone, has a few easy rolling hills and very light bike traffic. What I really like is the rural atmosphere, prairies and open farmland.
The eastern end of the GWT is mostly shaded while the tree cover on the western part of the trail opens up and it can be quite sunny. The trail ends in a quite community park in Sycamore. I’d suggest this trail if you would like to get away from the rush of the city and enjoy a quiet rural bike ride where you can hear your own thoughts.
Busse Woods Bike Trail – The Busse Woods Trail (BWT) is a paved bike trail that loops through the Busse Woods Forest Preserve in Elk Grove, Illinois. There’s quite a variety of scenery in this 12 mile bike trail. At the northeastern part of the trail there is an actual Elk heard (in a large fenced off area). Once you head south from the elk herd you’ll ride past a number of forest preserve entrances with lots of activity on busy summer days and weekends. You will pass over the Salt Creek and some small lakes and will ride through some scenic wooded areas.
There are also plenty of other side attractions such as lots of boaters, fishers, major kite flyers and a Remote Controlled airplane field in one of the groves. It can be a lot of fun to watch the flyers do their aerobatics… The one drawback to this trail is that it can get quite crowded on busy weekends and at peak times. If you don’t want to deal with the crowds you will want to visit this trail at an off time.
Please keep in mind that there have been quite a few “runner ups” for this top 5 bike trail category, and there are many more great bike trails out there in the Chicagoland area. There may also be some changes in this top 5 listing as time goes on, but for now, this should give you some real good opportunities to get out and enjoy the ride!
If you would like more information on the top 5 bike trails listed here, or detailed description and photos of other great Chicago area bike trails, check out the About-Bicycles Bike Trails pages.

Decorating With Onyx Lamps

Image : http://www.flickr.com
In the decorative world, onyx is a natural material that is born in the heart of a mountain. A type of marble, it can take a very smooth polish that feels like glass to the touch. However the material itself is quite heavy and solid, as a stone should be. Certain types of any have a translucent quality that allows light to pass through the surface of the stone causing it to glow. This property has been used by designers over the years to create decorative glowing pieces, such as candle holders, lamps, and wall sconces.
Decorating with onyx lighting is different than using regular lamps. For one thing, it is an almost entirely ambient experience. The light from these pieces isn’t directional, shooting out in a straight line, up, down, or sideways. Instead it comes out diffused, so that the glow spreads rather evenly outward from the source.
Another peculiar element of onyx lighting is the lack of glare. The light has to travel through the stone before it breaks through to the environment. As it moves through the material, it is filtered, leaving it a soft, even glow that fills a room gently, rather than with the harsh glare of a regular fixture.
One of the drawbacks to onyx lighting is that it is so dim. If you want to create a relaxed lounge atmosphere it’s great, but if you’re looking to read, or use a computer screen, or even just to be able to gauge someone’s expressions accurately, you might want to flick on an overhead light.
One option for onyx lighting is as a centerpiece. The stone is usually quite attractive when lit, with the multicolored veins of the marble glowing with the illumination within. This can be set on a mantel, or a coffee table, or any position of prominence as an accent point for the entire room.
If you want to use onyx lighting as the sole illumination in a room, it might be better to try multiple pieces. Each lamp, or candle holder can be placed in a different corner, allowing little orbs of glowing light to gently fill the space. If they are arranged all together in a single display, they can create a campfire effect, with the soft light emanating from a single, warm point of light.
Onyx lighting is an ambient illumination choice that requires you to do some theoretical thinking. Contemplate the nature of a diffused glow, and then try to situate it within the mood of the environment you are creating. In this way you can merge the soft ambient light of these pieces with the rest of the illuminated symphony in the space.
This article was written by Jim Slate, an artist at PebbleZ.com where you can find a wide selection of natural onyx lamps, ambient natural stone lighting fixtures that create an ambient atmosphere in any space.

Luggage Carts – Large Wheels Vs Small Wheels

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Luggage carts can be purchased with large wheels or small wheels, but what should the smart shopper look for? My vote is for large six-inch wheels. Small two-inch or three-inch wheels on a luggage cart for a child or small adult may be perfectly adequate and also implies that the load will not be extremely large. But if you are an average-sized adult or intend to carry many pounds of stuff on your cart you really should look for a well-made utility cart that has at least six-inch wheels with ball bearings and rubber tires, too. There is no rule that says a child or small adult should not use large wheels with ball bearings either – and now that I think about it, is there any reason that a child or small adult should not have all the advantages of six-inch wheels too? None that I can think of. So there is my vote: big wheels are better for all sizes of people. And here is why:
The first advantage to big six-inch wheels on a luggage cart is maneuverability. With the small built-in wheels usually found on a piece of baggage or on a small-wheeled cart, when you attempt to go over a curb you actually have to stop, pick the bag or cart up, position the wheels back on the pavement, face the direction of travel once more and then proceed. But when you approach a curb with a big-wheeled utility cart you just step up, roll the cart up the wall of the curb and keep going. The rolling action takes place by letting the large six-inch wheels roll up next to the curb as you walk and then giving slightly more pull to roll it up the side. It is a very smooth natural action. You barely even have to pause and you do not have to turn around and look. You can feel it rolling up the curb. When you are in a rush this is a time saver. Of course if your load is extremely heavy or tall you really should slow down a little and carefully roll the load up. Remember: safety first – the back you save may be your own.
The second advantage to big six-inch wheels on a luggage cart is less “clackity clackity.” If your cart or bag has small wheels, especially if they are made of plastic and do not have rubber tires, you get a whole lot of “clackity clackity” as you walk along, particularly on a tiled floor, brick pavement, or cobble stones. And the faster you go, the louder it gets. And each repetitive bump on a plastic wheel promotes cracking – meaning that at some point that wheel is going to splinter apart and fall off.
Aside from all that “clackity clackity” being very annoying to yourself and passersby, it will drowned out the voice of a travel companion as you walk along trying to converse about the scenery or making plans. You cannot hear yourself think! But, if you have a well-made luggage cart with six-inch wheels, rubber tires and precision ball bearings it will not even whisper as you go along. Since there is almost no noise at all, it becomes a “non-issue.”
And the smooth noiseless ride of precision ball bearings rarely, if ever, squeak like plastic wheels or hubs can! Two birds with one stone! And if, in about five years, your ball bearings do happen to squeak, a little machine oil will remove it for a few more years. Whereas if you oil a squeaky wheel that does not have ball bearings, that can be an every-day chore because the squeak never really goes away permanently.
The third advantage to big six-inch wheels on a luggage cart is speed. Small wheels actually put drag on your walking speed, especially if they are plastic, or have plastic or metal hubs without ball bearings. And especially on rough pavement. But large wheels with ball bearings do not slow you down one bit. Precision ball bearings also put less “pull” or “strain” on your arm and shoulder because the action of the ball bearings makes the wheel turn much more smoothly and efficiently. The turn of the wheel is efficiently assisted by the engineering of the ball bearings, thus less strain on you.
Three very good reasons to look for big six-inch wheels with precision ball bearings and rubber tires on the luggage cart you purchase: better maneuverability, no annoying repetitive noise, and faster speed with less body strain. Happy traveling!

Angkor Wat – Temple of Ta Keo

Image : http://www.flickr.com
The original name of the temple was ‘Hema-sringagiri’, meaning ‘The Mountain with Golden Peaks’. It is one of the few temples where you can still see mae ji, as the female devotees of Buddha are known. They are recognizable by their shaven heads and white garb. In past years, they tended the Buddhist shrines that had been placed in the often Hindu temples. More recently, due to the influx of tourists, one sees less of the mae ji and more of the locals dressed up in traditional garb to pose for photos. The mae ji can be considered female monks, but that is not quite accurate. The mae ji occupy a place between the monks and lay people. Many sects of the Buddhist faith allow women to be ordained, and their numbers are growing, but those rights have still not been extended to women in this area of the Buddhist world. Still, they take the same vows of faith that the male monks do. In the temples they often sell incense sticks to be presented to the shrine they tend.
The climb to the top of the temple is an arduous one, especially in the hot sun. The east-facing stair is the easiest of the four, yet still quite steep. Take great care if you decide to go all the way to the top of the 22-meter-high temple. The temple plan is straightforward: the stairs on each side lead directly up each level, eventually leaving you at the top where you can enter the central tower.
You probably won’t be able to notice just from looking or walking around, but the temple is slightly asymmetrical. The third level is slightly west of center, and the southern edge is slightly wider than the north edge. It is unknown if these variations were intentional or not. However, it was intentional that Jayavarman V built his state temple in a place other than the center of his capital, though the significance of this is unknown.
In accordance with the symbolism of Mt. Meru, the third level is the most holy place. One of the kings succeeding Jayavarman V, a man named Suryavarman I, gave the temple as a gift to Yogisvara Pandita, one of the religious leaders of the time. Despite the esteem that others felt for this yogi, the man himself used only the lower two levels and considered himself unworthy of the highest level. If you make it to the top, you will see that it is a special place, with a great view over the treetops and even a glimpse of the very tip of Angkor Wat to the southwest, though it’s easy to miss.
The central tower that is accessed by the long flights of stairs does not have a roof. The absence makes the room of the central tower seem like it has a skylight and, along with the unfinished carvings, is evidence that Ta Keo was left incomplete. Scholars believe that it was just too ambitious a project for its time. This certainly may be true, but it must also be considered that the temple builders experienced a big setback during construction.
Work was interrupted when lightning hit the crowning stone. In Khmer culture, this was a very inauspicious occurrence. A ceremony had to be held to cleanse the temple of the bad luck, and new stone had to be ordered. The stone was high-quality sandstone known as grauwacke, which had to be cut and shipped in. This setback may very well have made the building project too much to finish.

The Beauty of Oversized Designer Handbags

Image : http://www.flickr.com
A hot fashion item for 2007 is the oversized designer handbag.
Oversized handbags usually provide easy access, long handles for over the shoulder carrying, cell phone pockets, zip pockets, fold over flip pockets and hold a lot of necessary items needed for any occasion.
Not only do designer handbags make you feel good about yourself, they present you as a person of the present era or, of modern tastes.
Some women like the oversized handbag because it functions as two bags in one. Not only does it serve as a purse it can double as a camera case, diaper bag, etc.
You can take your camera with you everywhere you go without looking like you are taking you camera everywhere.
An oversized designer handbag which also functions as a diaper bag does not scream “Look at me! I’m somebody’s tired, frazzled mommy!”. Plus, after you have gone through the frumpiness of pregnancy, then the emotional ups and downs of post-pregnancy, the no time to fix your eyebrows or your nails, just being able to dress up in your favorite designer wear and carry your favorite designer handbag makes you feel a bit more “polished”. It’s an instant pick me up.
Shoes and a great bag will make or break an outfit. And if you need to carry a lot of things, no matter what they are, you can still look fashionable by carrying an oversized designer handbag.
Another nice thing with regards to oversized handbags is that there is no stigma attached to their size. Unlike when you are trying on designer jeans and you think “if I hadn’t eaten that last dessert, these jeans might fit me”. There is no shame in carrying an oversized handbag.
All women will concur that an oversized handbag is a must for adventuring. You can carry sandwiches, snacks, make up bag, cell phone, laptop, keys, hairbrush, hairspray, baby items, pet items, maps, first aid kit, etc.
Designer Handbags are a wearable work of art. The craftsmanship on a really well made bag will captivate you. You may find yourself sitting in the closet looking at the stitching, feeling the silky leather and breathing in that new leather smell. It may be hard for you to bring yourself to actually using it.
Some designers of oversized handbags are Tommy Hilfiger, Necessary Objects, Stone Mountain, Kathy Van Zeeland and Derek Alexander.
Kathy Van Zeeland handbags provide exclusive materials of the highest quality and focus on the most fashionable trends each season. Kathy Van Zeeland wants you to look and feel great wearing her handbags, and she is confident that you will receive many compliments on your sense of style.
The Tommy Hilfiger brand has combined American style with unique details to give time honored basics a fresh and updated look.
Stone Mountain has become a benchmark for the highest quality handbags at moderate prices. Stone Mountain satchels, shoulder bags, oversized handbags and hobos never go out of style.
Derek Alexander handbags are Canada’s leading leather line that suit all needs and tastes. They are made using full top grain cowhide that is slowly rolled in vegetable based dyes and other natural tanning agents to provide rich character and a great touch.
Today’s fashionable lady will look “put together” in simple heels and a turtleneck as long as she has her stylish, trendy designer handbag, even if “it is” an oversized handbag.
Jackie Beem is the author of many articles and resources concerning designer fashion, including designer handbags, designer sunglasses, designer pet carriers, designer evening attire and more.

Half Empty Half Full – Poems of Optimism

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Here are two poems that look at being optimistic in the face of adversity and sadness. Essentially, You have to decide if you are going to look at your glass as half empty or half full.
The person in Half Empty Half Full keeps a positive outlook when nothing seems to be going well. Which Way Do I Go is about someone in a funk who takes control and says farewell to the doldrums.
Half Empty Half Full
I look at the flask of my life blood
Half empty or half full; which is it?
Just like anyone, I don’t need the crud
I want the good times to pay a visit
Slammed with uncertainty again & again,
My optimism is tough to hold on to
And the question is always when?
When will the stars align? I’ve no clue
Half empty or half full; which way
Must I regard the Present of my life
As the fabric is gnawed every day
I need a future of Hope, not Strife
The struggling has been too long
And yes, some pain makes one stronger
But again and again, this is so wrong
It’s hard to be positive any longer
I need to keep a positive angle
For sanity and for others than myself
Yet I’m mired in this earthly tangle
Of paying bills and stocking shelves
And making the too-little money last
Not fixing things that aren’t emergent
We had hoped the bad times were passed
But alas, not yet, until the resurgence
We need a vacation from this morass
But can’t afford to go; not yet; soon?
Unless we slide into another crevasse
Oh, to eye the ocean from the dunes
Half empty or half full? I like to think
That the good times must be ahead
Maybe we need to be at the very brink
Before fortune goes our way instead
Which Way Do I Go
Which way do I go from here?
I’m at a crossroads and uncertain
Looking for solace, a future clear
I close the window, draw the curtain
The time for reading, music’s gone
I want deeply to relish the world again
I no longer want to be so withdrawn
Maybe a prayer may work; a true amen
I take a seat and breathe slowly
Inhale and exhale to clear my head
The room is whisper silent, wholly
Maybe I should just curl up in bed
NO
The slow oxygen has helped to clarify
What I must now do, where I must go
My hefty self burden I’ll need to rarify
First, a whit of distance is apropos
I’ll call in sick, take a few days off
Buy a last minute ticket someplace
An adventure! I’ll drink of the trough
Doff the doldrums, gloominess erase
Perspective from afar often alters one’s
Sense of being wrapped around the axle
I’ll return refreshed, warmed by the sun
And to the moroseness, say farewell

Stone Tables – Understanding the Material

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Natural stone is a beautiful expression of the earth that can enhance the style and sophistication of any environment where it is used. However, most people don’t realize that the term stone can actually be applied to a variety of materials. This is important to note because different types of stone will have different durability and liabilities, which can be especially vital when dealing with stone table tops that get a relatively heavy amount of use during their lifetimes.
One of the most durable materials that you can use in table top applications is slate. This rustic stone is available in a natural cleft finish, which most closely resembles what people perceive rock to be, or in a smoother honed surface. Available in both solids and multi-colors, it is rated as one of the most durable and resilient materials available. Further, in multi-color form, the swirling unique patterns tend to make the piece resistant to staining, and easier to keep clean, as it doesn’t tend to end up looking messy easily.
Granite is another durable material that is fairly resistant to stains and scratches. It is often used in kitchen countertops, which come under the constant pressure of chopping and mixing, as well as a barrage of staining materials.
Sandstone, limestone, and travertine are relatively softer types of stone. In general these materials will be more likely to crack or chip than their stronger counterparts mentioned above. They will also be more susceptible to damage from stains.
Marble is probably the most delicate material that you can use in a table top application. It can stain easily when it comes in contact with an acidic substance, and the material itself is fairly fragile, meaning that it can chip or crack easily. Also in polished marble applications, the polish can be scratched quite easily.
One way to protect all of these stones, and keep them looking new and fresh is to regularly apply a chemical sealant agent to the material. This will clog the natural pores in the stone, making it impervious to spills that may occur. There is unfortunately no way to prevent cracks and scratches except care, although a finishing agent can create a slight invisible barrier over the surface of the stone.
Outdoor tables should be limited to materials that will either be able to withstand the constant pressure of the elements, or will at least weather nicely, taking on an ancient and antiqued look as the years continue to affect the stone.
Stone tables are a great way to bring the beauty and power of nature into your home, but you should be aware of the type of material you choose, and the care and maintenance that the type of stone will require.
PebbleZ.com is host to a wide selection of attractive natural stone kitchen tables, crafted from unique pieces of mountain born mosaic tiles. These hand crafted pieces are precision manufactured right her in the United States. The author of this article is Jim Slate, a stone artist and artisan.

After the Honeymoon – Keeping The Romance Alive

Image : http://www.flickr.com
The wedding was beautiful and you’ve returned from the honeymoon but the romance does not need to end there. You may be married now, the engagement ring shares the fourth finger with a wedding band, and you have done your duty and written all of the thank you notes. Don’t fret – the romance can live on.
Consider these ideas to keep your romance alive -
First things first – Write your wedding anniversary date in each other’s calendars/appointment books. I know it’s hard to forget the date of your wedding but when a year passes and you get wrapped up in the day-to-day it may slip your mind.
Why not shop for home furnishings together? – Even though you received kitchenware, dishes and some decorative items as gifts, your home will likely need furniture, major appliances and other accent pieces. Make a point of point of picking out something special, together, that is timeless, like a piece of original art. You will appreciate it after many years of marriage.
Buy fun tickets – She could attend a sports event with him and He could see a “chick” flick with her. Or, spend a day together at an amusement park. Make sure to share popcorn or cotton candy.
Take dance lessons together – Even if you never learned the steps before the wedding, take a class in latin dance or texas two-step or even better – dress up and learn to waltz.
Have a weekly coffee break at a local café that works around your job schedules. Maybe you can both get off for a ½ hour in the mid-afternoon. This is generally a quieter time at most cafés.
Read the same book and share your thoughts on it. This may seem silly at first but it is a great way to relax and to communicate. It’s even better if you buy 2 copies or borrow 2 copies from the library so you can read them at the same time! Get cozy with your books.
Have a designated “couples time” every week even if you live with the folks or have children. This may coincide with your coffee break, reading time, dinner out or any time the two of you have time to relax and communicate or just snuggle.
Write each other notes every now and then on real stationary – not just email. This is not only a great and fun way to communicate, but these notes are tangible, and reflective. You can purchase special individualized stationery if you want and only use it for notes your spouse.
While Valentine’s Day is traditionally a special date, have a romantic dinner out once every month. – You can be romantic yet keep the cost down by going to a modest restaurant and sharing a large salad, an entrée, and a dessert. Sharing a dinner off the same plate itself is romantic – Take it slow, make the night last, a movie is not necessary.

How to Shift Gears on a Mountain Bike

Image : http://www.flickr.com
The bike used for mountain biking has undergone tremendous changes. Its strength increased and weight decreased. Its appearance became sleek and trendy. Also, the number of gears increased substantially. Most of the latest models of mountain bikes have as many as 27 gears. So, changing gears has become difficult, especially those who are new to this adventurous sport. One may not be sure whether the gear has actually been changed to the intended gear or not. The question how to shift gears on a mountain bike has become one of the most sought after section in mountain biking tutorials.
It is natural that one might wonder what on earth a mountain bike needs that many gears. Each gear is for riding at optimum speed on a particular type of terrain. It is common for a mountain bike rider to experience various kinds of terrains: hilly, wet, dry, steep slope, rough, stone filled, you name it. One-type-fits-all-kind of gears will not work here since speed is an important factor in the equation for competition victory. So, for getting maximum and optimum speed, one should learn how to shift gears on a mountain bike.
The problem with specialized gears for specific terrain is that if you change to a wrong gear, the result may be embarrassing and sometimes dangerous. Here are some tips to properly change gears on a mountain bikes when you go uphill from a plane. When you start climbing the slope, you do not need to change the gears. You can use the same gear and try to run up the slope with as much speed as possible. Once you find it difficult to pedal, you can shift gears. When you change gears, do not instantly change to the gear that would give you maximum speed when you go up a hill. Instead, change the gear to an easy and slow mode. The emphasis here is not on speed, but spending less energy.
Once you reach a flat surface or a surface with a downward slope, you can change to fast gears again. Again, change to a slower gear when you reach a steep slope. The procedure repeats when your reach the flat surface again. The important lesson in the guide to how to shift gears in a mountain bike is to slow down by applying brake when you enter a different type of terrain. Shift the gear accordingly only after becoming comfortable with riding.
There are different types of gear system used in mountain bikes. How to shift gear on a mountain bike actually depends on the kind of gear system you have got. For riding down the slope, gear system with a front socket is ideal. But for going up the hill, a back socket gear system is generally considered good.

In order to effectively discuss the topic in the title of this article, we need to talk about a few other things as well. Also, while we are going to concentrate on the natural methods of increasing HGH production in the body, many people will find that they will want to either use HGH supplements entirely as their strategy, or may want to combine supplements with other methods mentioned in this article.
People hear a lot about HGH these days, but most don’t really even know what it is or why it even matters, much less whether to even be concerned about increasing it, decreasing it, or taking a supplement for it. So, we are going to discuss: what HGH is, why it matters to your health, and why you want to increase it naturally…or with an HGH supplement.
Many do not even know what HGH stands for. Those are the initials of Human Growth Hormone, a hormone produced naturally by the anterior pituitary gland. It’s main function is, as the name implies, to help the body grow and repair itself in the natural course of life. Lower levels of HGH normally result in premature aging, loss of lean body mass, lower levels of energy, and many other symptoms we normally associate with “getting old”.
As you might suspect, HGH levels ARE higher in our younger years. As we grow older, these levels tend to begin to decrease, with the average decrease beginning around age 20, although these sorts of things do vary from person to person.
There are a lot of inter-related reasons WHY this occurs, but for the moment we are more concerned about what we can do to reverse this trend and increase HGH production, or at least availability. We are also concerned with being able to increase HGH production naturally, as this is the most effective way of getting our human growth hormone levels up where they can do us some good.
While many people choose various HGH supplements to increase HGH production, some of these are of dubious effect, and most simply do not work as well as the natural methods. Additionally, opting for the two main ways to increase HGH production naturally, produces a broad range of additional benefits which go far beyond the normal results of high levels of HGH.
Some studies have shown, by the way, that supplementing HGH at high levels WITHOUT dealing with these two main subjects we are about to discuss may actually create negative effects in the body. The jury is still out on that, but it appears that natural is better, at least in this case.
The two primary actions you can take to increase HGH production naturally is by regular, moderate exercise, and by proper nutrition.
We will also mention one additional choice you can make which recent research is showing to also be of importance.
Now, when it comes to exercise, almost anything in the category will do, but you will have to expend some effort to get your HGH. Just for the record, resistance training, or strength training, appears to be one of the most effective kinds of exercise you can perform to stimulate HGH production naturally.
Nutritionally, there does not appear to be one food you need to incorporate in your diet to help HGH production. Actually, the best course of action here is to eat a nutritionally balanced diet, and taking a daily multivitamin supplement could help a lot when you think of how hard it is to regularly get nutritionally balanced meals.
While nutrition and exercise are probably the most important ingredients you need to increase HGH production naturally, the additional choice I mentioned earlier is a good night’s sleep.
Remember the old “get eight hours of sleep a night” rule for good health?
Turns out that HGH production is at its peak at the end of a good night’s sleep. In other words, it is in the latter stages of that eight hours of sleep that you are really getting the benefits of your attempts to stimulate HGH production…naturally or otherwise! Recent studies have been linking a lack of sufficient sleep to all kinds of things, including obesity, cancer, high blood pressure, and premature aging, just to mention a few.
Certainly, whether you are trying to increase HGH levels naturally or by some means of supplementation, the very fact that you are making an effort is the major point. There is even a “reverse” Catch-22 effect if you will. If you start trying to get more sleep and take an HGH supplement at least, you may actually help your body energize itself enough for you to find the energy to get more exercise.
The secret, as with so many things, is to take that first step, whether it is the first step of going for a walk, or the first step out to the car to drive somewhere to purchase an HGH supplement.
Hopefully, this small article on how to increase HGH production naturally has been of help.
