Comic books come in a host of genres such as fantasy, science fiction, drama, crime and horror. One of the most popular categories is superheroes such as Superman and Batman comics.
Comic books were first published in America in 1896. They were a huge success and publishers decided to come up with more titles with new stories and characters. The first few ones were made up of content that was reused from newspaper comic strips. Later, They came into their own and publishers began printing those that had original content.
One of the most popular comic heroes, Superman was introduced in 1938. Today comic books have evolved into several different formats such as graphic novels and webcomics. Collecting comic books is fun and you can become a collector once you manage to collect a decent number of them. As a collector, you would be involved with buying and selling of comic books and protecting your collection.
Newer ones are easier to find than the older ones. New ones are available at comic book stores, toy shops, book stores and corner markets. For older ones, you might have to do some amount of digging. Many book stores stock old editions. You may also come across something interesting on websites like eBay and Heritage Comics. Sometimes, people who want to sell off old issues of their books and advertise on Craigslist.
As a collector, you may decide you want to sell a portion of your collection. To sell, you need to find out the value of your collection on the basis of the state of the comic books. Next, you need to know where you are going to sell them. You have the option of selling them to a book store or at an auction site. These stores are likely to buy them from you at a lower price that you would get otherwise.
The usual way to protect your collection of books is to put each into a mylar plastic bag along with a thin piece of cardboard that will prevent them from bending. You can store the collection in a cardboard box especially designed for keeping these books. You can find all of these storage materials at any comic book store. Keep the cardboard box containing your collection in a place that is free from moisture.

Different Types of Computer Memory
Computer memory refers to either of two types of computer storage. Volatile memory refers to RAM that needs to be constantly refreshed to be retained. Static memory is permanent storage that is retained even after the computer is turned off.
RAM or Random Access Memory is volatile memory that is erased when the power goes off. Program instructions and data held in RAM can be accessed and saved much more quickly than that held in permanent storage. Therefore, files needed to run a program and data that is being processed are held in RAM while they are in use. The amount of RAM you need depends at least partly on the operating system( a program that directs all the basic functions of a computer such as accepting commands from a keyboard, displaying input on a monitor screen, and controlling disk drives and some other peripheral devices) you select as well as the type of programs you intend to run.
When you boot up the computer, in other words turn it on, the operating system or part of it is loaded into the RAM along with a variety of utilities required for normal operation. Therefore, programs and data are loaded into what’s left. As little as 2MB(megabytes) total will suffice for most DOS( disk operating system-a proprietary program that controls all the basic functions of a computer) programs. In a Windows 3.x environment, 4MB is the recommended minimum, but 8MB runs far better.
Beyond operating system demands, the amount of RAM required depends on the applications to be run. For example, heavy graphics, real time video, and such need more RAM to keep things from slowing to a crawl or stop. Generally, off-the-rack machines come with 8 to 16MB, more than enough for a general purpose computer.
With improved handling of memory, reduced access times, and lower cost have conspired to make larger amounts of RAM practical. Which in turn has given programmers free rein to add more bells and whistles. This also helps programmers to become more creative in writing programs that require more RAM. There is reason to believe that this trend will continue.
As for static memory, you don’t have to be very old to remember buying a computer without a hard drive, then later installing a 20MB hard drive, unable to imagine ever needing more storage than that. Today, a 250MB hard drive is popular; however, most new computers are in the 500 to 1000MB( 1 gigabyte) range. And you may need all of that MB and then some.
Computer Memory fact #1: For the faint of heart, when programs or data files are called up from permanent storage, they are not moved, they are merely copied. If the power goes off during processing, programs generally are safe. The only loss will be data that was changed since the last save.
Computer Memory fact #2: If you decided to get a MAC computer, don’t worry. The MAC computer comes loaded with a proprietary operating system and the proper amount of RAM to run it.

How to Stop Bullying by Collection Agencies
You are in debt. So what? Being in debt doesn’t mean you are a criminal; neither does should it make you the object of harassment by creditors and collection agencies. However, you ought to know that having unpaid debts that are charged-off and sold into collections will always come back to haunt you even if you’re able to stop harassment by collectors.
If your concern at this period is to put a stop to harassment by collectors you should know that there’s a set of rules that specify how collectors should conduct themselves when making payment requests from you.
One of the things you want to do is to verify if you actually owe the debt you’re being disturbed about. You have to be really sure considering the amount of reports that have negative information on them – a whopping 80%. And you shouldn’t rule out the possibility of having a negative reflecting an unpaid debt on your file when in actual fact you might have paid up.
To stop collectors from bullying you, you can start by finding out if the agency has got an operational license in your state. Not all collectors have a pass to operate across all states. You may find that the collector harassing you doesn’t even have a legal backing to make collections in your state – this is a good ground to get the collector to stop.
But beyond getting a collector to stop bullying you lays the bigger picture. Will this action erase bad accounts from your file? Will it increase your score? This is what you should be more concerned about, and it should be your next biggest goal behind ending harassment by debt-buying agencies.
You can remove negative accounts such as collections and charge-offs using repair methods such as self-help or hiring an expert repair agency to do the cleaning. You should also involve more in activities that will add positive information to your file such as getting a secure credit card and paying down all your balances.

Comic Books History – Part I

Image : http://www.flickr.com
Because comic books have such a long history I’m breaking up this series into several parts.
Comic books. Arguably one of the largest industries in the world. To be able to store every comic ever written you would need a city the size of New York and even then I think you would run out of room. No question, comic books are here to stay. So when did this multi billion dollar a year industry actually start.
Actually the origin of comic books is not really known for certain. Up until recently there was one theory of what the first comic book was. Then new evidence suggested that this was incorrect. We may never really know when comic books started but as of this writing the first known comic book was “The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck” which was written in 1837 somewhere in Europe in several languages. In 1842 an English version of this comic was printed for the United States, more specifically New York City. The comic was 40 pages long and didn’t really resemble the comics that we are used to seeing today. There were no word balloons with dialogue. Instead there was text typed at the bottom of each panel to describe the story. A copy of this comic was recently discovered in Oakland CA. The comic itself was done by Rudolphe Topffer who in Europe, was considered to be the creator of the picture story. He created the comic strip in 1827 as a graphic novel. After that he created 7 more graphic novels in many different languages including copies for the United States. These books stayed in print until about 1877. This was considered to be the Victorian Age of comic books which is still incomplete and still being researched even until today.
Even though many comics were printed after that, they have fallen into obscurity and the next known comic book was published in 1894 called “The Yellow Kid.” The Yellow Kid was actually a character derived from the comic “Hogan’s Alley” but the kid was so popular that the comic book became known by his name rather than by the official title of the comic book. Hogan’s Alley was created by a gentleman by the name of Richard Outcault who actually got his start writing for “Truth Magazine”. In an issue of “Truth” he did a character cartoon featuring “The Yellow Kid” and it’s from that initial publishing that the actual comic came into being a short time later. It is believed that Outcault got his inspiration for “Hogan’s Alley” from several cartoonists including Michael Angelo Wolf and Charles Saalburg, both of whom used street kids in their cartoons. It is believed that the title “Hogan’s Alley” came from the song “O’Reilly and the Four Hundred” which starts off “Down in Hogan’s Alley.”
In the next of this series I will be covering what is referred to as “The Platinum Age Of Comics” which spans the years 1897 to 1938 which features the extremely popular “Mutt And Jeff” and “Little Orphan Annie” comics. You don’t want to miss this.

Cheap Escali Primo Digital Scale, Warm Red Great value, but 1 important accuracy quirkI was looking for a reasonably priced scale and I don’t believe you should have to spend $50 to get a decent scale. Based on some good reviews here I chose this one and am very happy with it. If it was lost or stolen I would buy another one without hesitation. I would have given this scale 5 stars rather than 4 if it weren’t for a serious omission of a “feature” in the documentation that can cause large accuracy problems when dealing with the tare feature. It’s not a problem with the scale as long as you are aware of it, it’s a problem with the documentation. This problem could explain why … read more.

Where To Buy Soul of the Tango: The Music of Astor Piazzolla My favorite Yo Yo Ma CDThis is the work of two musical masters Piazzolla and Yo Yo Ma. Ma cello is flawless in its attack. He uses his technique now for emphesis and focuses more on the perfection of Tone and dynamics in this work. Here is an recording not played with constant vibrato as most of Ma’s work, but in clean tones and sharp precise changes in tempo dynmaincs and melody. This was my first Tango recording and is still my favorite. Piazzolla is impressive in his ability to make the music dance in your mind. The instruments and musicians are in a dance themselves if they were to … read more.

Studio Cameroon

Buying Studio Cameroon Great neo-traditional music! Sally w/o overproduction.I have never been a big Sally Nyolo fan, I found her music to be too syrupy and overproduced. This CD is a radical departure from her work w/ Zap Mama and previous solo albums. The music is rough and rowdy; something I wouldn’t expect from Sally Nyolo. Okay the details. The record consists of tracks recorded by a variety of bands featuring Sally Nyolo. There are acoustic makossa numbers, some kicking bikutsi, and pure folklore. The overall sound is haunting and varies from mellow to floor shaking. I applaued Ms. Nyolo for giving a group of no names the opportunity to make heart felt music. … read more.
