Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2: Oracle Very enjoyable Manga series – gillie – alaska
If you are looking for a new manga series to read, this could be the one you want. There is action, comedy, several possible tangles from 2 love triangles. It does have the tried and true story of a girl thrown into a distant time/land and struggles to find her footing. But, I feel the humor, the heart, and her art that Yuu Watase brings to her stories elevates her books above many writers. You will not find graphic violence or graphic sexual situations. There are many other reviewers to give you the complete outline of the story, so read those and see if this series will “fit” you.

The new character that appears in this book is Tai Yi-Jun. She gave the Universe of the Four Gods to Hotohori. She is pretty scary if you’re not used to her.
In this installment, Miaka, Tamahome, Hotohori, and Nuriko go to see Tai Yi-Jun. At the beginning of the book, Miaka doesn’t feel well. Nuriko believes that if she goes back to her hometown, she will feel better. So the foursome go to Daichi Mountain to see Tai, who could help Miaka. However, there is one test needed so Miaka can prove if she really is the Priestess of Suzuku. It involves… Miaka’s bad side?! Oh no!! No way I am telling you anymore than that, but I will tell you that Miaka succeeds in going back to her hometown.

Sie beinhalten lediglich die 6 Folgen der “2. Staffel”, der Verfilmung der Mangas Bd. 14-18.
Die komplette Serie umfasst 56 Folgen (1. Staffel (Manga Band 1-13) + 6 Folgen (Bd 14-18).
Somit ist die Aussage in der Beschriebung falsch, und kann zu Missverständnissen führen!

Priestess (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 1) Love comes in different ways – –
This book is about a girl (miaka)with an strict mother. She runs away to a library and is sucked into a magical book. She meets a male hero named xong giu-sui (Tamahome) She turns out to be the priestess of a mysterious land, and loves Tamahome as her hero. He, on the other hand, is destined to protect her, and loves her like a little sister. But when a mysterious and mean woman comes to the palace to help miaka with a royal quest, she falls for the emporer. The whole story is romantic, yet strange. :S It’s not that great, but I read it twice.

I’m addicted. – –
Some friends at school recomended this manga, so i got it out from the library. I loved it!!! Once I started, I could’nt put it down. I read until I finished it, and then went straight to the library to get out the next book. About a month later, and I still love it (although I’m pacing myself now). In fact, its growing on me, I’m seriously considering buying the whole manga series (and thats saying somthing: I’m a picky buyer), and can’t wait to get a hold of the anime.

However, there are few things to consider before you buy. Later in the series, the plot gets fairly serious, including family and friends turning on each other, murder, rape, and the like. I’ve found that almost any manga not geared towards 10-year-olds involves at least a slight bit of nudity etc, and Fushigi Yugi is no exeption. If that is something you can’t stand to see, don’t buy. But don’t worry: Yu Watase does not dwell on this overly, it does not get too involved, and most are just romantic “awwwww! too cute!” situations.

By far the best part of this series (besides BEAUTIFUL illistrations) is the characters. Miaka and Tamahome, the main characters, can somtimes get boring or too predictable and their romantic moments can be drawn on too long. But the other characters more than make up for this, especialy (my personal favorites) Nuriko (who is absolutly HILARIOUS), Tasuki, Chichiri, and Mitsukake.

Fushigi Yugi has just the right amount of drama, romance, and comedy. The plot is great, the art is beautiful, the characters are amazing. What can I say? I’m addicted, and you will be too.

And if you already are addicted, I recomend Inuyasha, by Romiko Takahashi.

Romantic – Prism Light – USA
This book was very romantic and entertaining! I really liked the action parts, since there was usually a lot of romance mixed in with them. I do think that some parts were unnessecary and simply used to add some inappropriate content to the book. Being that I love romance, this was one of the best Japanese comics I’ve ever read! For me to truly enjoy romance manga (and I know I’ve said this before) the main boy has to be someone that I would like if I was a manga character. Tamahome reminded me of Darien from “Sailor Moon”, risking his life to save the main girl! It was those parts that I enjoyed most.

Overall, if you love romance and Japanese comics, I recommend this to you! It is very absorbing and enjoyable! But keep in mind that there IS unnessecary content such as Tamahome walking in on Miaka when she’s shirtless.

By bringing together seven supernatural warriors, she can ensure the kingdom’s safety–and obtain her heart’s desire. Relations among the first three warriors take an odd turn as Miaka finds herself vying with the transvestite Noriko for the affections of the rakish martial artist Tamahome and the exquisite emperor, Hotohori. In contrast to the animated TV series, Watase places less emphasis on Miaka’s friendship with the brilliant Yui and more on her relationship with her divorced mother. I’m not an avid anime fan, but my friend is. She drags me to watch all her droning anime series, most of which did not enthrall me. However, when she introduced a more-than-skeptical me to FY…consider me bewitched. Absolutely! This anime contains all the elements of a deftly crafted series. No movie, TV show, or other such had engaged me as much Fushigi Yuugi. I’ve never been so emotionally connected to any other show. The plot and characters are chiseled with such precision…and each episode very effectively beguiles you to watch the next. It’s inspiring…every minute is a breath of fantasy… it’s as if you’re living in an epic.

in this box it continues the story that uve seen in the first one..but here ull cry more than u laughed in the early box..i am so annoyed that i bought the dubbed BY MISTAKE INSTEAD OF THE ENGLISH SUBTITLES :::i am soooo sad for that
dont miss watchin it..its as good as the first one..there is no other perfect anime than the fushigi yugi..I LOVE TAMAHOME *sobs*

Fushigi Yugi – The Mysterious Play: OVA Box

Fushigi Yugi – The Mysterious Play: OVA Box Not as bad as everyone said…. – Ophelia – USA
I bought this item 1) because I’m a huge Fushigi Yugi fan and 2) I wanted to see if it was as bad as people said. Having read people’s reviews before, I had low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised! It is different and it can seem a bit convoluted, but if you pay close attention you will be able to find out what’s going on quickly and realize where the plot is going. The ending is a bit weak, and Taka is a bit emo, but these little slights can be overlooked. Tasuki undergoes a change but that is because he realizes he has feelings for Miaka and becomes possessed by an evil spirit (he manages to exorcise it with Taka and Miaka’s help). And also, alot of people will notice this part of the series is mainly about Taka recovering his memories even though Miaka is still a major part of the plot. Overall, it’s still a worthy addition to your Fushigi Yugi collection (even with the minor flaws in it).

This wasn’t my favorite series. It gets a little long and confusing. Also, some of the characters get really annoying.

Like most of the other reviews, if you didn’t watch the first 52 episodes, then you will be completely lost in the series. The first three episodes were not that impressive because they were a little confusing. The next 6 episodes however, filled in the blanks from the first three and made the series better to watch. If you are a big Anime fan, this DVD box set would fit perfectly with your collection.
: A brand new beginning…is what this story’s all about.Paradise is born right here, right now.Everyday, when I awake…and you’re there at my side……I want to give thanks.By planting many seeds of smiles… This OAV (original animation video) adventure brings back all the characters from the sprawling broadcast series–even ones who were killed. When Miaka, Tomahome (who now lives in the real world), Keisuke, and Tetsuya go visit the grave of Takikio, the one-time priestess of Genbu, Tomahome mysteriously vanishes back into Universe of the Four Gods. Miaka and Yui join him there, causing the Warriors of Suzaku and Seiryu to reassemble. Their reappearance has been arranged by Tenkuo, the former master of the evil Nagako, who hopes to rule the alternate world. Yui summons all four Gods to seal him away and prevent any further contact between the two worlds–which also means Miaka and Tomahome must separate. The secondary characters remain more entertaining than the whiny Miaka, especially sorcerer-in-training Chichiri and mountain bandit Tasuki. Viewers should watch the broadcast series before the OAVs, or they’ll be hopelessly lost. Each episode is followed by an omake, or extra: a chapter of “Fûshigi Yûgi Rest and Relaxation Bus Trip: The Tale of the Forbidden Women’s Hot Spring Resort,” an offbeat farce that features the characters as themselves and as actors playing those roles. It provides a welcome break from the turgid melodrama of the main episodes, much the way Kyogen comedies are traditionally performed with Noh tragedies in the Japanese theater. Genki Yoshimura’s script exhibits some chronological problems. When Tomahome arrived in Konan in episode 1, 50 years had passed since the battle at the end of the broadcast series, and Hotohori’s grandson was emperor. When Tomahome and Miaka visit Konan in episode 5, only two years have elapsed and Hotohori’s infant son occupies the throne. However, these inconsistencies are not likely to trouble fans of this mawkish magical-girl series. Much of the final episode, which is nearly twice as long as the others, is spent on a convoluted subplot involving Tomahome and Taka appearing in the same time and place when they’re the same person. As a result, there’s little time for the final battle. Perhaps it shouldn’t feel too decisive: Miaka’s final words to the remaining six Warriors of Suzaku, “I know we’ll meet again,” suggest that further sequels may already be in the works. Rated 16 and up for nudity, sexual situations, attempted rape, suggested incest, and violence. –Charles Solomon
