The NBA has banned Twitter and Facebook in its new social media guidelines. The NBA social media guidelines are the leagues latest attempt to clean up the game of basketball, and this time around they are targeting some very popular social media sites. In the past season, several players had reportedly been posting on Twitter and Facebook while games were taking place, during halftime, and even right after the completion of games. The league didn’t like this too much, and has taken the bold step of stripping the ability of players and coaches to actually participate in social media sites during scheduled game times.

This move by the NBA to enforce social media guidelines might be good for the game in the end, but I think that it takes a lot of fun out of getting to know the players. If a player has the time to post a Tweet or a quick Facebook post during halftime of a game, then by all means allow them to do it, because it is quite interesting to see what they really have to say. Sometimes the right players aren’t getting interviewed as the team’s head to the locker rooms at halftime, and this had allowed a unique way to see what players or coaches were saying. Plus the filters have been removed, and that means we are really getting to read what they are thinking, and not just what they want the media to see.

The specifics of the social media ban (guidelines) were stated in a memorandum that the NBA sent around on Wednesday. It will ban the use of cell phones, PDA’s, and other electronic devices during games for players, coaches, and other team personnel involved in the game. The league went on to state that this “game” period will start 45 minutes before the opening tip-off, and extend through the pos-game interviews that the team has to give the media. It seems that the maybe the league has gone too far by banning cell phones and PDA’s, and they could possibly be over-compensating for something they feel to be a problem. What if a player needs to keep the phone close at hand because his wife is pregnant and could go into labor? It does seem like there are unanswered questions in this policy still.

It’s going to be interesting to hear what players have to say about this social media ban, and whether any of them post to their Twitter or Facebook accounts about how they feel. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has always been well known for his Twitter posts, and once he was even fined for comments he made. This could seem like a good policy on the surface for some teams and players, but an outright ban seems to me like the NBA has gone too far in the opposite direction.

If you are happy with the realtor after 90 days is up, you can renew the contract, if not, search for another agent.

There are only a few states that allow the seller’s agent to be the same as the buyer’s agent. Beware of this situation. If your realtor really wants to get double commission on a property, he/she may tell you anything to complete the sale. During the recovery period from hemorrhoid surgery, it is important to keep the area clean and dry. You can use medicated wipes such as Tucks or Preparation H to wipe the area after using the restroom. Then gently pat the area dry. This will help to prevent infection.

BEAVERCREEK, OH – The Family Solutions Center in Beavercreek has announced the addition of a new physician to the staff. Theresa Blachly-Flanagan, M.D., joined the organization in September as a child and adolescent psychiatrist.

Formerly Integrated Youth Services, the Family Solutions Center (FSC) is part of TCN Behavioral Health Services, Inc., located in Xenia. The facility provides services for children and adolescents who are suffering from depression, anxiety, conduct disorders, behavioral and substance abuse issues, autism and family or parental problems.

Originally from Canton, Ohio, Blachly-Flanagan completed her undergraduate work at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and natural sciences in 1991. Four years later, she earned her medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University, finally serving her residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a student, one of Blachly-Flanagan’s goals was to work with families and kids. “I always knew I wanted to be a doctor,” she said. “I enjoyed my training in psychiatry and enjoy working with children and families.”

Working at the Family Solutions Center is something of a homecoming for her. She had already spent about seven years with FSC’s parent organization following the completion of her fellowship in 2000.

As part of FSC’s comprehensive treatment team, Blachly-Flanagan assesses each patient and helps to direct the level of care needed. “I meet with children and parents for the initial diagnostic and assessments, followed then by weekly to monthly sessions to monitor overall progress,” she explained, emphasizing that there is no single solution to any given problem.

Each program is designed not only to treat problems directly, but to educate those involved with a patient, from parents to school teachers. As a psychiatrist Blachley-Flanagan must sometimes prescribe medications in the course of treatment.

“When needed, using medication that has been well studied to help relieve symptoms can improve quality of life,” she said. “The hope is that people will be able to function better overall in the future.”

“Unlike what you might see on television, there is no one way to assess or treat a problem,” Blachly-Flanagan continued. “There is no magic pill. You need to know the history and situation of each patient including medical, family and school, gathering as much information as possible.”

Ultimately, the goal of the program is to guide patients and families through a broad range of difficulties and help them to be successful. “We look at the whole situation and try to help kids navigate through some of the chaos in their lives.”
