Free Homebrew PSP Games

First, lets talk about what does the homebrew term means. This term is all around the Internet when you search on psp’s but I guess not many know really what the term meant. Homebrew is applied to video games that are not typically user-programmable. Some refer to homebrew as home-developed games or non-commercial video games. It was found out in June of 2005 that an unsigned code can be run on a PSP firmware version 1.5. This lead to the creation of unsigned codes that is the backbone for the homebrew games. Sony had come up with many security features but still the homebrew creators are successful. One of the most popular types of homebrewed games that you might have heard of is the fangames.

There are many free homebrew video games available in the Internet. Here is a list of some of them for your reference.

1. PSP Dungeons

This comes in 3D environment and setting.

2. LUAmines

This is a homebrew version of the PSP puzzle game called Lumines.

An Introduction To Jigsaw Puzzles

A jigsaw puzzle requires proper assembly of interlocked cut-out pieces resulting in the formation of a figure or picture. British mapmaker John Spilsbury invented the jigsaw puzzle in 1760. It was intended to be an educational toy. Puzzle maps are used even now to teach geography to children.

Puzzles were considered high-society entertainment, but technological advances brought down the prices. Early jigsaw puzzles were of the very simple non-interlocking variety also called push-fit puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles became very popular in early twentieth century, and their popularity was further boosted with the invention of interlocking pieces. During the Great Depression, jigsaw puzzles became a very popular form of family entertainment when drugstores and libraries started renting them out. Antique wooden and cardboard puzzles are considered collectibles, and completed puzzles are rated even higher. Wooden jigsaw puzzles are considered the best jigsaw puzzles. These puzzles are handcrafted using mechanical scroll saws.

Jigsaw puzzles are typically available in 500-piece, 750-piece, and 1,000-piece sizes. Double-sided jigsaw puzzles that can be solved from either side and three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles are also available. Jigsaw puzzles are also differentiated by the method of cutting pieces. Some of the prevalent cutting methods are fully interlocked with similar-shaped pieces, fully interlocked with uniform pieces, fully interlocked with differently arranged blanks and tabs, and non-interlocked sides. 5 Criteria For Choosing an Appropriate Game Or Puzzle

There are so many games out there on the market – how do you decide which ones to purchase for those perfect gifts for him? Hopefully this article will give you some practical ways of narrowing down your options and finding suitable gifts for him.

Things to keep in mind when choosing games:

1. Skill level:
Often puzzles will have a star rating or some indication of the difficulty of the puzzle or game. Brain teasers and mind benders often have ratings on them, and you’ll want to check that before you purchase. If the recipient has not done many of that sort of puzzle before, better off starting them on an easier level. However, they don’t necessarily have to be experts at puzzles to do the hardest level – they may be naturally brilliant and have the smarts to start off with a challenging one right away!

2. Age of individual:
This criteria for choosing a game is rather self-explanatory and is similar to skill level. Make sure the game is age-appropriate. If it’s too kid-like for a teen he will be very unlikely to play such an “uncool” game; however, conversely, if you give him a game or puzzle that is beyond his reach due to his age, he will likely give up on it and may even be hesitant to revisit it when he is older.

3. Number of players

If you do want to give an otherwise complicated puzzle or game to a younger audience, consider having an older child or adult work alongside the recipient, helping him/her understand the rules (showing is often far superior to explaining), or helping them tackle bite size segments of a puzzle.

5. Speed of game:
I for one do not like slow-paced games. I love action games and puzzles, such as speed Scrabble (regular Scrabble is too slow) and Dutch Blitz. If you were to give me one of those tricky mind challenge puzzles, I would be bored and frustrated within a few minutes. However, give the same game to someone who likes a challenge, is methodical, and loves to systematically solve problems, and you will have found the perfect gifts for him! Generally personality or even profession is a good indicator of what style of games the individual might like. Is he a people-person and loves activity, or does he have a more subdued personality, enjoying pondering puzzles and thinking through the challenge himself?

Puzzle – Tierbabys

Die Bilder sind süss, und für Kinder, die gerne puzzeln ein netter Spass für unterwegs.

Allerdings ein bisschen schwierig für die ganz Kleinen, da das Puzzle-Bild nicht ganz auf den Schirm des Nintendo passt, und man deshalb das Puzzle hin-und herbewegen muss. Da man dadurch nie alle Teile des Puzzles auf einmal sehen kann, ist dies für kleine Kinder (meine Tochter ist 4) etwas schwierig und gewöhnungsbedütftig. Aber mit etwas Uebung werden wir das schon hinkriegen.

Auch meine ältere Tochter (sie ist 9) spielt gerne damit.

Alles in allem finde ich es eine gute Alternative zu den herkömmlichen Puzzles (da man unterwegs keine Teile verlieren kann) und zu den üblichen Renn- und Schiessspielen, die es sonst so für das Nintendo gibt.

A Game For Kids to Play

Last night, I took down an old favorite, the ABC Floor Puzzle from Mudpuppy Press, to play with my 22-month-old. The puzzle is made up of 24 big 8″ square pieces that fit easily together and are easily manouverable by a little tyke. The box says 3+, but he enjoyed seeing the picture come together and was pretty darn happy when he could fit one piece to another. And I found it sufficiently stimulating to enjoy spending seven or eight minutes down on the floor with it. Check out Mudpuppy’s other puzzles, too – they are well made and designed, and they come in boxes that make storage easy.

There is something zen about putting a puzzle together. It has no real productive purpose and is therefore very effective at driving Type A family members up the wall, though I’ve seen obsessive-compulsives unable to focus on anything else until every last piece was put in the puzzle. Me, I like it because I think it focuses the brain on colors and shapes and their inter-relationship. With Brain Awareness Week coming up, it’s a good time to think of incorporating puzzles to stimulate neural pathway development (in your child) and maintenance (for you, old codger).

A good puzzle is a great way to spend time with your kids. Here’s a rough guide for puzzle size, though kids will vary greatly:

Ages 1-3: Very simple block puzzles will help the child understand relationships between colors and shape.

Age 2-4: 20-35 piece traditional jigsaw puzzles are appropriate.

Ages 4-7: 60 piece traditional jigsaw puzzles are perfect for most 5 year olds. Keep in mind not only the size but the time, patience, and focus required.

Age 5-10: 100 piece puzzles are usually just right for ages 5-10.

Age 8-11: 200 piece puzzles.

Age 10-12: 300+ piece puzzles will match the skill level of 10-12 year olds.

My daughter (age 6) and I often put together a 40 piece puzzle before bedtime. It’s quick, fun, and gives us a chance to wind down before the pre-bed routine.

Recently, we also tried the highly recommended Global Puzzle. With 600 pieces and dimensions measuring three feet wide and 18 inches tall, it’s a big, big puzzle. But it’s also a fun learning tool. Except for the oceans, most of the puzzle is made of pieces in the shape of the countries they represent. The puzzle is somewhat fragile that way, since most countries do not naturally interlock with their neighbors. Some of the pieces are very small, though very tiny countries and US states are conglomerated into pieces that don’t require a pair of tweezers to manipulate. My daughter, still at six, was a bit young to do more than fit together big pieces of land in the same color (Antartica), but her grandmother and I spent two days trying to figure out where to put Cameroon and Madagascar.

For a slightly older child (the box says nine years, but could go younger depending on the child), and for most American adults, this puzzle is a great exercise in humility as you realize you can’t even get Canada or Latin America in the right order. It’s also sold by the National Geographic on-line store. Highly recommended.

Crossword Puzzles

A crossword is a puzzle in which words are guessed from given definitions or clues. Words are then fitted into a sequence of black and white squares that results in creation of interlocked vertical and horizontal patterns. Crossword puzzles include definitions of words written horizontally as well as words written vertically. Crossword grids appearing in most North American publications have a significantly lesser number of black squares than those published in Australia or Britain.

The major variants of crosswords are cipher crosswords, diagram-less crosswords, fill-in crosswords, and cross numbers. Cross numbers is the numerical counterpart of crosswords. Crosswords can also be differentiated on the basis of the type of clues. Crossword clues can either be straight or quick, comprising of clear definition of the answer, or they can be cryptic or indirect comprising of metaphorical meaning or pure wordplay.

The early version of crosswords that was devised in Britain in nineteenth century was based on an ancient word square. The form of crosswords prevalent nowadays was developed in United States by Arthur Wynne in 1913. This puzzle was published in New York World, and it included most of the features present in crosswords of today. Subsequently, crossword puzzles became a very popular feature of the publication.

The first book of crosswords puzzles was compiled and published in 1924, by Simon and Schuster. Publication of this book further helped crosswords in becoming a worldwide craze. The New York Times crossword puzzle has been running since 1942, and is considered the most prestigious and most difficult to solve among crossword puzzles. The popularity of crosswords has given birth to many popular games such as scrabble.
