The Feminist Furor Has Finally Passed

Image : http://www.flickr.com
After years of holding America a virtual hostage, old-fashioned radical feminism
appears to be just about dead.
But don’t take my word for it. No less a feminist authority than Maureen Dowd, the
New York Times columnist who has never met a Bush–or Bush policy–that she’s
actually liked, has all but written feminism’s obituary in her book, Are Men
Necessary? Dowd notes that feminism “lasted for a nanosecond, but the backlash
has lasted forty years.”
I would take issue with that statement. Feminism has been thwarting America’s
growth and vitality for years–but, finally, a number of women are rejecting it for the
silliness it is. Dowd writes, “It’s the season of prim, stay-in-the-background First
Lady Laura Bush, not assertive two-for-the-price-of-one First Lady Hillary. Where
would you even lodge a feminist protest these days?”
The signs of the decay of feminism can be seen far beyond Pennsylvania Avenue. In
cities across the U.S., women are chucking the corporate world and embracing
Barney’s world instead. They have found fulfillment where their grandmothers did–
in the home, raising their children, offering love and support to their husbands.
Many do not consider domestic work a drudgery–rather, they see it as a comforting
alternative to the 24/7 career life.
But what has brought about this seismic shift in American life? Feminism may, in
fact, be responsible. Young women have seen the fallout from feminism and, as a
result, they want no part of it. Public opinion polls generally show that younger
women flinch at the thought of being called “feminists.” They may have been raised
in the broken homes spawned by the nation’s divorce culture, and they don’t want
their own children to suffer the fate that they did. In essence, they suffered parental
loss early in their lives because their mothers were rarely home long enough to be a
nurturing force. Instead of tugging on their mothers’ apron strings, they were left
to tug on the telephone cord that connected them to their working mothers’ offices.
They felt a distance from their mothers that no amount of therapy could adequately
address.
In one noteworthy case, a poll commissioned by Faye Wattleton, former head of the
pro-abortion Planned Parenthood, showed the generation gap which feminism
caused. Wattleton asked women whether keeping abortion legal was a major
concern, and they said “no.” Years of Planned Parenthood’s preaching about the
alleged necessity of abortion-on-demand have failed to convince the younger
generation, who realize that sisters, brothers, cousins, friends, and potential mates
are missing because they were aborted by their misguided mothers. Younger
women tend not to see abortion as a right–but rather as a profound wrong.
South Dakota’s recent decision to ban virtually all abortions demonstrates that
radical feminism’s clarion call to kill the unborn is no longer being heeded. The
U.S. Supreme Court–which has its share of pro-feminist holdovers–may still claim
that abortion should be the law of the land, but elected representatives in South
Dakota have proven that it doesn’t have to be. Recent national public opinion polls
also show quite clearly that Americans support legal abortion in only rare
circumstances–in fact, most people believe it should be banned in 99 percent of all
cases. Feminist icon Molly Yard, who was marching for abortion well into her
golden years, must be turning over in her grave.
Young women simply don’t relate to Eleanor Smeal, Gloria Steinem, and the other
“founding mothers” of the modern feminist movement. They see such women as
out-of-touch, angry, and unfulfilled. They admire women who can keep a
household together under trying circumstances. They may have iPods and
Blackberries, but they still believe in the value of hearth and home.
And they definitely believe that men are necessary.

The Specialization-Differentiation Imperative
In the olden days, when there was just one blacksmith in each town, it was easy to brand yourself as the best blacksmith around.
If someone needed a blacksmith, you’re the blacksmith they called. But then villages grew into towns and a new blacksmith moved into the neighborhood. All of a sudden, people had a reference of comparison and competition was born – along with the need for differentiation.
So what happens as more and more people enter into a profession, and as the profession itself becomes more widely recognized as a helpful service?
The needs of the market get sliced and diced in a variety of different ways – and the professional that focuses on one of those slices is more highly valued than the professional who continues to try to be all things to all people.
That’s why we have doctors who specialize by part of the body – cardiologists, podiatrists and nephrologists. We have doctors who specialize in type of patient – pediatricians, gynecologists and veterinarians. We have doctors who focus on geographic regions. And we have doctors who work in small teams, in large corporations and as individual ‘freelancers’.
And as each specialty fills up with more people, it gets sliced and diced into finer and finer sub-specialties. Look at any profession and you’ll see the same pattern. Whether you’re a lawyer, accountant, consultant, coach or any other independent professional. You either focus on one of those slices, or you don’t get much respect in the market.
That’s the specialization-differentiation imperative.
But how do you specialize if you are a general practitioner? And even if you are already a specialist, how do you differentiate yourself from the other specialists in your subspecialty?
The answer comes from a concept that’s as far away from the branding labs and market research focus groups as you could imagine – and it’s the same for individual careers, entrepreneurial businesses and international corporations.
The answer is authentic differentiation.
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to align the differentiation that already exists within yourself or your company’s culture with the matching slice that already exists in the market.
‘Differentiation’ is the slice in the sales and marketing pie that my company focuses on. We help companies and individuals discover their true differentiation and then communicate it in the most compelling way. It’s what I call their ‘Essential Message.’
Your Essential Message is what enables generalists to command the same high status and privilege of a specialist, and what enables specialists to rise above other specialists.
Finding your differentiation is the number one reason why independent professionals join my Essential Message Bull Pen program or buy my eLearning products; it’s why event planners book me for speaking engagements, and why my client companies set up Clarity Package sessions that I facilitate.
Here’s a powerful way to brainstorm your own differentiation possibilities using W5 – who, what, where, why, when and how. It’s not as simplistic as it sounds, so if you’re ready to start your journey of discovering your differentiation (and it is a journey), then get your pencil out and take a deep breath.
On a blank sheet of paper, draw a table with six columns. Label the columns with who, what, where, why, when and how. Then as you read the descriptions for each one below, jot down whatever applies to your business today as well as what you’d like to explore in the future.
Who: This refers to your clients – the different ways you can define and group the people you work with. The more you specialize in a specific target group, the easier it is for you to focus your sales and marketing budget.
What: Do you offer group coaching? Do you sell physical products? Do you hold weekend retreats on luxury cruise ships? Or do you sell an hour at a time? What’s the tangible part of what you provide that people buy?
Where: Proximity used to mean geographic proximity, but now extends to mean visibility – in person, online or in any media. Where are you most visible? Where are you most visible? And don’t ignore the power of old-fashioned physical proximity. If you are the only coach in your geographical area — and if geographic proximity is important to the buying decision of your clients — highlight it!
Why: Traditional marketing approaches recommend you focus on the ‘why’ — the benefit of what you offer. But in todays information overloaded world, benefits often sound like empty promises that people have heard before. A more compelling way to frame your ‘why’ is the flipside of the benefit – what are the problems that people need your help with and what are the risks if people do not use the solution you recommend? Be granular and list all the problems that you help your clients with. The more specific you are, the easier it is for you to identify the one problem that you solve better than anyone else.
When: In sales, as in everything else, timing is everything. For the purposes of discovering your differentiation, ‘when’ is closely related to ‘why’. What are the trigger events in your clients’ lives and businesses that bring a latent problem to the surface and cause people to (finally) do something about it? Simply by being visible at the same time and just prior to these trigger events, you can make it easier for potential clients to find you when they need you most.
How: Which one of these is not like the others? That’s right — it’s ‘how’. How you do what you do is one of the best places to ‘dig’ for your differentiation. You might have a unique approach that comes so naturally to you, you may not even realize how powerful it is. That’s why it’s helpful to get other people’s perspective. (In fact, you might even want the assistance of a coach!)
My own journey of discovering my differentiation started when I ran my own ad agency. It took several frustrating years of offering non-differentiating services before I realized that the real value we offered our clients was in helping them discover their differentiation at a deeper level than they had experienced with other communications companies. That realization became the impetus and the foundation for my company today – The Essential Message.
Your differentiation is at the heart of your Essential Message. Discovering who you really are and using it in your life and in your work is perhaps the most satisfying, most rewarding thing you can ever do.
More than just greater business success, the feedback we get from audiences and clients is it gives them the confidence, momentum and resilience that can only come from being absolutely clear about your strengths and unique difference both as a company – and as an individual.
And that’s why I hope you don’t just read this article… I hope you do it!
Happy selling!

Rumbling Hearts: Box Set
Rumbling Hearts: Box Set I’d rate it lower, but this is as low as I can go. – maskedgamer –
Trust me, I like a good love story Anime (see peachgirl it’s awsome!) but this is.. this is.. absolute torture. I didn’t really feel like I was watching a romance anime with Rumbling Hearts, I felt more like I was watching a tradgedy, and it’s really quite depressing. The plot of Rumbling Hearts is basicly Highschool friends that grow in to adults, and how their innocent years are behind them. They are now grown up and have grown up problems to deal with. The story revolves around a guy named Takayuki, his original love interest Haruka, and her friend Mitsuki. Their tight bond of friendship and love however fall apart one day when a terrible accident occurs leaving Haruka in a Coma. Then the story begans, and so it the good parts of it end. To better understand the anime I should break down the characters. Takayuki, is more or less the cowardly boy who is afraid to admit how he feels, is indecisive, and he is easily manipulated. To put it point blank, he has no spine when it comes to his life and the decisions he makes. Then we have Haruka, who is the nice shy girl who steals your heart. She is cute, kind, and you root for her all the way. She is really something else the kind of girl that’s rare and hard to find. Last but not least we have Mitsuki. She is supposed to be the best friend of Haruka, but she is selfish, self centered, and can’t seem to keep her clothes on. Matter of fact my main problem with this story is the relation ship of Takiyuki and Mitsuki. Through out the story even when they are little, it seems Mitsuki selfishly wants to be in a relationship with Takiyuki. She drags him away from Haruka when Takiyuki is in need of him. In other words she is closing in on her best friends man. Unfortanately an incident allows her best friend to be taken out the picture. While her best friend is in a Coma she seduces Takiyuki at his lowest moment and takes advantage of him, because she wants him to herself. Not to mention that she doesn’t feel very much guilt about it, and for the most part could care less about her friend Haruka who is in a coma. She calls her the “sad little girl” and even tries to keep “Takiyuki” from seeing her, when he needs to be with Haruka for reasons beyond love. The plot focuses on Mitsuki’s selfish needs and desires, and Takiyuki plays right in to her trap. Not to mention Mitsuki is quite a harlott. She isn’t oh so faithful to Takiyuki, but she even turns that situation around to make herself seem like the victim. Meanwhile Haruka is the one left in the dark while her boyfriend and best friend have a love affair. Most of the time you feel depressed and pitty for Haruka because she is so innocent, and when she comes out her Coma she has to awaken to all these new issues that she doesn’t deserve. The story really is on the far end of what a love story should be. The Male lead character is a wimp and no romantic, and his main love interest “Haruka” is the one he neglects the most. IF there is any real love or actual relationship between Takiyuki and Mitsuki they never show it. For the most part your left with the impression that Mitsuki takes advantage of Takiyuki, when he is obviously hurting. She manipulates him and almost forces a relationship out of a bad situation. Takiyki on the other hand is so brainless that he can’t see past her obsession and self centered motives. He only repeats what it was like for him when he was younger. He ignore Haruka his girlfriend to help Mitsuki with her needs. On an end not I found the series unentertaining, I didn’t enjoy the story at all, and it did not feel fulfilling at the end. It was sad, depressing, and really a tragic story. Haruka is really just too good for them both.

Her boyfriend, Takayuki, cannot forgive himself and seems determined to follow Haruka into a comatose state. Mitsuki dedicates her life to taking care of this tragic young man, and the pair salvage what they can, falling into a self-destructive relationship floundering in guilt. When Haruka awakens three years too late, suffering from anterograde amnesia, everyone has to act as if not a day has passed. Torn between his unhapy real-life train wreck with Mitsuki and the warm and fuzzy daydream high school romance with Haruka, Takayuki watches what little silver lining that was left in life be mercilessly and methodially stripped away.

How to Use Color in Your Bedroom Decor
The bedroom is the first room that we see when we wake up in the morning and the last before we go to sleep. The colors that we use in our bedroom decor will help create the mood and energy that we take with us through the day and helps us to relax and rest at night. In this article, I am going to discuss the steps in picking the right color for your bedroom decor and how to use color to create the right ambiance so that you feel refreshed, calm and at ease when you spend time in it.
When picking a color story for your bedroom decor, you should first decide what kind of mood you want to create. Normally, for their bedrooms, people tend to favor colors that bring a feeling of tranquility. Do you want this feeling of serenity, or do you want colors that make you feel energetic in your bedroom? If you are sharing your bedroom, be sure to ask your bedmate how she/he wants to use color to decorate the bedroom. You should both agree on a color that brings you closer together rather than a color that one of you loves and the other loathes. Next, think about how the colors on your walls will work with your bedding and any furniture that you may have in the room. The color combinations should work together harmoniously and as one.
• Warm colors, like red, orange and yellow give a feeling of awareness and energy to a room. These colors should not be used to decorate a bedroom unless they are used in a muted form like pink, peach or corn. These muted colors bring a feeling of warmth and won’t affect you like the pure colors, which can keep you from sleeping. The pure, bold colors should be used as accents in the bedroom, such as in the bedding or the curtains.
• Blue, green and lavender are cool colors and are best used when decorating a bedroom. They give a feeling of peaceful tranquility and make the room appear larger than it is. Although it is better to use one color theme when decorating a bedroom, it is possible to mix these colors and keep that calming feeling. For best results, use one color for the walls while accenting the bedding, furniture and carpeting with another color.
• Brown, orange and yellow are earth tones. These soft colors bring a welcoming feeling to the bedroom, but only in the short term. Orange and brown can raise the appetite and leave you hungry, while yellow may become irritating over time. The toned down versions of brown, such as coffee, are very popular for bedrooms. However, for the best effect, brown should be partnered with a splash of a cool or warm color.
When picking out colors for your bedroom decor, remember to not mix too many colors together. One or two colors should be enough to create an inviting bedroom without creating excessive diversity and clutter. This includes the use of light and dark colors. Too many splashes of a dark color can make the room appear smaller, as well as create a shock affect. For best results, use one color for the walls, white for the ceiling and use accent colors for the bedding, carpeting and furniture. The color used in your bedroom decor plays an important role in your daily emotional feeling, so don’t follow trends when picking out your colors for your bedroom. Instead, pick out colors that you really enjoy looking at and give you a feeling of well-being.
Luxury bedding linens can improve the look and tranquility of your bedroom decor.

Making Professional Quality Photobooks Using the Powis Parker Studio PhotoBook System
As photobooks have become more and more popular and consumers are looking to buy them, many companies are looking for ways to create their own photo book hard covers. The Powis Parker Fastback studio photobook system is designed to allow photogrophers, photo shops and photo labs do just that. The system includes four pieces of equipment: The Fastback 8x Binding Machine, the Powis Stitcher, a Stitch flattening tool and the Fastback Hardcover guide. Used together, these four pieces equipment allow users create and bind their own professional quality hard cover photobooks. Here is how the new system works …
The first step to creating your own Photobook using the Powis Parker Fastback Studio Photobook Binding system is to assemble your book block. This simply involves putting your photographs in the order that you want to bind them and adding an Endleaf Sheet to the back and the front of the book. These special endleaf sheets from Fastback have a small bead of thermally activated glue along the edge that is designed to be bound. For best results ensure that this strip of adhesive is facing in so that it attaches to the pages of the photobook during the binding process.
Once you have assembled your book block including the Fastback Endleaf sheets, the next step is to bind the book with your Fastback Model 8x. You will bind your photobook with the brand new Fastback LX-Photobook strips. These ultra thin strips have a minimal amount of glue on them and are designed to reinforce the spine of the book. However, these strips alone are not designed to hold the pages of your photobook. Instead this strip helps to ensure that the pages of your Photobook will not tear through the staples inserted in the next step.
The third step to producing your own Hardcover bound photobooks using the Powis Parker Studio Photobook system is to staple the book block of the photobook using the new Fastback Stitcher. The Fastback Stitcher has a convenient photobook binding table attached with special markings showing you exactly where to staple the binding edge of your photobook. Don’t worry about the staples, they will never show in the finished product and they will ensure that your photobook pages never fall out. Using the Fastback Stitcher also makes it possible to bind almost any type of glossy coated papers into your photobook. This is extremely important since many of the other photobook binding systems available on the market do not work well with heavy glossy papers or with coated photo papers.
In order to ensure the best possible bind with the Powis Parker Studio Photobook system the fourth step in the binding process is to crimp the staples added by the Fastback Stitcher. Crimping these staples will help to ensure that the staples are as tight as possible and that the staples lay completely flat so that they will never show in your finished product. In order to crimp the staples you simply use the special set of crimping pliers available from your Fastback dealer to crimp the bound edge of your photobook so that it is tight and the staples are completely flat.
Finally, you are ready to insert your bound book block into your hard cover case. Using your hard cover guide you can easily align your photobook cover and in less than a thirty seconds (once you have done it a few times) you attach the Endleaves into the hard cover case. At this point you can also use Fastback Headbands to give your photobook the look and feel of a stitched document. For more information on using the Fastback Hard Cover guide, check out our article on Binding Photobooks and Hard Cover Books with the Fastback Hard Cover Guide.
All in all, after you have done it a few times, the whole process will only take you two or three minutes and you will professional quality photobook. Currently Photobooks are available in Impala White, Black Suede, Bright Blue Suede, Brown Suede, Burgundy Leather and Black Leather. These photobooks come in a landscape orientation with a wonderfully wrapped 4.25″ x 3.25″ rectangle window. The results are absolutely beautiful and the binding is impeccable. Check it out for yourself today.
