It was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and was the forerunner to World Championship Wrestling (WCW). In 1931, Jim Crockett, Sr. began promoting wrestling from his homebase of Charlotte, North Carolina (though his first shows were in eastern Tennessee).
